Curtis Septic Service - Half of the area they put loam, covered in an invasive non-native weed

The Curtis septic staff treated me like a crazy person, disrespected me, my home, and my wishes for how to care for my land. Stay away from them. The long: They began work the day we closed on the house (paid for by previous owner as part of deal). They didn't contact us at all before beginning work - the new owners. They cut down 12 mature trees without telling us this would happen. The whole reason we bought the house was it's natural setting. They blamed the arborist they contracted with and we're completely unsympathetic - trees are disposable to them. Next they cut our water well line while digging. They knew they did this, but didn't tell us. We planned to move in that day but had to delay by a week and move the week of Christmas. They came into the house under false pretenses, but actually wanted to see if the breaker was tripped. It wasn't, but the line was still cut and that's all they did to verify the water worked (they didn't turn on the faucet to check.) When we discovered this happened they made no attempt to repair it quickly - having no water and being unable to move in wasn't their problem, I guess. They blamed the previous owner for not telling them where the line was. I wanted to plant native plants (not grass) in the quarter acre of bare dirt they left behind. I asked about the source of the loam as I was worried about invasive species. They were entirely uncooperative. They told me I needed to put down grass and use round up forever. This is not something I wanted, but they had no respect for that and were unhelpful. I let them put down the loam and guess what? The $500 of native seeds I planted didn't come up because they were outcompeted by an invasive non-native weed. Pic attached. Now I have to manually pull a quarter acre of dense weeds and replant. I don't expect Curtis Septic to know about native plants, but I do expect them to respect the homeowners wishes and be helpful to achieve them. Finally, when they put down the loam they used heavy machinery to compact it. This is a horrible practice that makes it very difficult to plant anything afterwords. I was home when they did it so I went and talked to one of the employees (the only respectful person in the company I encountered). I was calm and constructive. The employee driving the compacter (I don't know machines) saw me, drove very fast straight toward me, stopped suddenly, jumped out and yelled at me "what's the problem!?" I had been calm but I got upset being talked to that way so I said with an attitude, "you're compacting my soil." He replied with a long tirade of yelling "how else am I supposed to do it?" And "you don't know anything about how this is done." Completely unprompted, he screamed at me. So the bottom line is all but 1 of the half dozen Curtis Septic staff members I encountered treated me like a weirdo and a child. They talked down to me, snuck around, and ignored my concerns. They didn't communicate even the most basic things we needed to know like when they would start work, what they would do, and that we had no water because of their lack of planning. The septic system seems to work I guess, but how we got here was awful and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Curtis Septic is the best decision we have ever made when working with a professional for an important home, family and safety project. Septic systems are the largest investment you will ever make in your home that no one will see. When you make a large important home investment you need to know you are getting the best services and products. From the moment we called Curtis we could tell we engaging with caring and dedicated professionals. They were thoughtful in ways I could not have predicted, from explaining the process, to answering off hours questions via email, text and call, to walking us through how the septic worked and how they were installing it- every step of the way they held our hands and were dedicated, kind and skilled beyond measure. The team communicated expertly, everyone was well versed in our families needs and objectives and the crew was the best crew to have on site. They were polite, thoughtful, kind and gentle mannered which is important for me as I am home with young kids. I have never worked with a company that had such seamless communication between the field and the office, that called after each day of work to update my family on the project status, who communicated on my families behalf with town offices to enable us to register paperwork, and who communicated with our real estate team. They were respectful, worked carefully and quickly and did everything they could to during the busiest season on record for septic replacement in our town. Curtis enabled the replacement of our system in time for the new owners of our home and ourselves to meet the closing deadline. They understood how important it was for both families to have the septic installed, and they pulled out every single stop to install the system safely, perfectly and quickly. They explained the process, thought of everything they could to help expedite the process on our behalf as the sellers, and on the behalf of the family who bought the beautiful home. They were fastidious, kind, insightful and gifted professionals. I cannot recommend Curtis enough, and am grateful we had the opportunity to work with such a gifted team during a stressful time in our life (selling and purchasing a home). Their pricing is competitive and fair, their work is far better then what we could have hoped for- we are grateful beyond measure we worked with Curtis Septic. Curtis Septic I have never worked with a company of such exceptional professionals. They took on my families needs as their own, both anticipating and exceeding them. We had a home we purchased with a septic that needed replacing, and Curtis worked tirelessly to fit our project in when every other company did not make an effort to work with us on scheduling. The first day of work they had to utilize their 50 years of experience to tie in a system through some major unforeseen issues underground. One of the things we've learned through the septic process, the engineers can't see underground, so the septic company you work with needs the experience and expertise to adapt and overcome unforeseen challenges. We worked with Curtis on two separate septic systems, and each time they went so far above and beyond what we could ask of a company. Their communication, flawless service and kindness to our family as we moved through a critical process from replacement to board of health plan approvals, to work, to board of health final approvals. They explained every piece of the process, were on call for questions and were fastidiously clean, timely and kind to our children and animals. For such driven, experienced professionals, they have the best customer service I have encountered. The communication was exceptional and consistent, the field and office were always on the same page, they updated and relayed information more quickly then we knew to be possible. They were aware of approvals at different stages in the process before we were, and adapted to each and every obstacle. Replacing a septic can be stressful, it is an unforeseen expense and the work often is required after dealing with a problem related to the septic, so it can be emotionally taxing as well, and it's important to work with a team that understand that and helps you. Curtis is the only team to work with, they were incredible. They instantly resolved our problem by working through them effectively and quickly, they managed our anxiety and built us the best most effective, environmentally sound and perfectly working septic. Replacing a septic system can be stressful, working with Curtis resolved that stress and created the best system available. We are grateful we chose Curtis, and hope this helps anyone deciding who to work with in a stressful septic process.

So glad they were the ones to get back in touch! Kaiden was on it immediately, found the clog, took care of it and we were back in business in less than an hour. We could not recommend this business highly enough!

First, the tech misquoted the pricing (three times) on his way in - by several hundred dollars. I found this out being handed the bill on his way out the door - 'I made a mistake'. When taking the tank apart, broke most of the PVC connecting to the septic tank. It was all replaced, so I guess I got some of my money's worth, but they were unable, for some reason, to remove one of the tank cover bolts, so they just spun the cover around on that one bolt. We won't know until warm weather if they were successful in properly sealing everything back down. The entire area around the tank (my utility room) ended up literally soaked in septic tank water. The removed pump was deposited in the middle of the floor. (At one point, they wanted to walk a bucket of vaccumed up septic water through the house to dump it in my upstairs toilet.) There was no care taken to protect carpet in the process of removing any of the old (septic) materials out of the basement. There was no effort made to dry or disinfect the utility room at all. The second reason for the call was a clogged sink drain upstairs. We provided access to the cleanout downstairs. When the pipe was finally snaked, the resulting black clog coming out of the cleanout missed a waiting trashbag, and was deposited on the carpet, splattered in a living area. There was no protection used on the floor at all. The tech said, 'I sprayed cleaner on it, it will dry with no stain'. It took me personally two hours plus of cleanup work to remove the mess they left. I also spent another hour or so disinfecting the utility room. With their own photographs for evidence, I still had to make a number of calls to get the attention of their office manager, who finally agreed to a small refund to cover my time. This ended up as a bill of around $2000. Although the work was 'performed', apparently the concept of customer service has been abandoned in our current culture. I couldn't help feeling like they thought I should have had no complaints. I had a bunch, and frankly the $250 compensation off the final bill was still insulting. Overall, a horrific experience - I would not recommend this company to anyone, for anything, thanks.
