Alyssa Beristain is the best! She's really thorough when it comes to washing and blow-drying my hair, does lovelyy curls and is so sweet and friendly. I've been to quite a few hairstylists in the past and she's by far been the quickest and best one. She's super skilled too bc my hair is by no means easy to style (I have pretty thick hair) but I always leave super impressed after she does mine. read more

5 star experience at Roses The Salon for getting my wedding day off to a great start! I found Minnie through the positive reviews and immediately, she was so friendly and approachable. I booked appointments for me, my sister and my mom to get our hair done with her and our makeup done by Christina. Both of them texted me through the process helping me with ideas so I felt prepared. Fast forward to the day of the wedding and our salon experience was amazing. Minnie even went the extra mile in getting us snacks as we were getting ready -- as well as taking pictures of us to remember the moments. Both Minnie and Christina were absolutely amazing. They finished well ahead of our photo deadline and their prices were also very reasonable. I would definitely recommend them and this salon if you're getting married nearby! read more

A few weeks ago I had my hair and makeup done by Christina for my son's wedding. I was so so happy with it and I got so many compliments! I am still getting compliments to this day and I have to say that I briefly explained what I wanted and she got the idea right away. Not only that, she made it better and beautiful! The place is also very nice and I felt pampered all the way! My cousin accompanied me and Christina had time to do her hair last minute which was an unplanned plus! We both left extremely happy and ready for this very special day! I recommend Christina very much! read more

Christina Wangler did my bridal makeup for my wedding. We did a run thru a few days before and I asked for a few minor changes. I was wanting a very "natural" look. The day of my wedding she not only remembered and implemented my requests but had done research on her own and had a few suggestions I hadn't even thought of. She did a fantastic job and I was very pleased. I would highly recommend her! read more

I have experienced the nail technicians, and the hair professionals as well. We were thinking about hair today as I dyed mine, and I just wanted to mention roses salon to anybody looking for their nails or hair, as they have very dedicated/ independent workers, and with their own business, as well as a very clean salon. Fans and nice guests to chat with and local spots nearby residential and the beach side nearby. My nail technician does not work there anymore, but she was amazing, and if she is not there today, I have seen the work that other nail technicians have done, while perfect manicures gel or not, and my acrylics and gel sets perfect with very happy clients around. I really also love all the hair styles coming out of this place, and especially the short hairdos. My hair lady was amazing and willing to pick up hair for you, but also, she's allowing you to bring yours to add for you, and for a very inexpensive price, she will put it in. I know they all work differently, but I was very happy with the price leaving room for a happy tip, also very happy for my hair that lasted pretty long and looked very natural with the color she recommended. Hair is reusable, and she still has mine.... Thank you Isabella if she still there. The only competition I met in the neighborhood does not use any electric nail files and is using copper bowls with old-school, pedicures and manicures... serving margaritas, or a small wine... Do your research, but definitely try this one with your girlfriends. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Minnie! From the moment I spoke to her, I knew my future daughter-in-law was in great hands for her wedding day. Minnie is incredibly talented and truly an artist in bridal updos. She listened carefully to what my daughter-in-law envisioned, making it even more beautiful than we could have imagined. My son and daughter-in-law were eloping in San Diego, and since we were not from the area, we were unfamiliar with the stylists. Roses The Salon and Minnie were referred to me by our florist, and I'm so grateful for the recommendation. Minnie was friendly, kind, and very professional. She even went the extra mile to send me photos and videos of my daughter-in-law's hairstyle, knowing we couldn't attend the wedding. It made the whole process feel even more special, and we felt included in such a meaningful way. Her updo stayed perfect all day and night. It was elegant, classic, and exactly what she wanted. The style was timeless and matched perfectly with her dress and her personality. Thank you, Minnie, for making Monica's wedding day hair everything she hoped for! I highly recommend her to any bride looking for a hairstylist who is skilled, creative, and a joy to work with. read more

My first visit to Roses the Salon was an extraordinary success!!! I went in for a hair consult with Rose - who thoughtfully booked an appointment that would work in my schedule. Mia made herself available for a pedicure and it was one of the best I've ever had. Mia was courteous, professional and took her time to make me feel relaxed and bringing my feet (after days walking on the beach) back to attractive! The hair color and foil by Rose was amazing! I don't know how she knew the exact color (most time hair color looks brassy the first few times) to use or the number, color and placement of foils to use to get this perfect blond color and highlight! And the cut was the best I've ever had -with no real direction from me. Easy to style and falls right in place!!! So thankful to the friend who recommended Rose!!! read more

Laura was AMAZING! I called super last minute, the day I needed my hair done, and she was able to book me a blow out that fit with both of our schedules. She was very professional and quick with her work, but not in a way that felt rushed or dismissive - just conscious of both of our time. She was talkative and friendly and gave lots of tips about hair styling and hair care throughout the blowout. I was very happy with my hair and would definitely return if I am ever in the area again. read more

I enjoyed Roses. They are the only reasonably-priced nail salon in Coronado. Approximately, 2 days before my wedding, I called for an appointment. Most places in Coronado were charging just as much as my hotel, and none of them did gel or nail wraps (for a broken nail), so it wasn't really worth it for me to leave ... until I called Roses. They were able to give me a later appointment that day. They charged a reasonable price. they were able to do gel and a nail wrap for my broken nail. Also, they do not charge extra for french manicures. It's a no frills salon, so don't expect fancy spa chairs. It's just a cheap little bucket of water and an uncomfortable office chair. For the price, it was fine. If I need a massage that badly, I can go somewhere else... or make a separate appointment at Roses. They have a masseuse. They also do hair and makeup in addition to nails. P.S. My nails still look great nearly 3 weeks later. They lasted all the way through my wedding and honeymoon, which is awesome! read more

I have tried several salons in Coronado and roses is by far my favorite. Patricia, the lovely wonderful and talented woman who did my hair, is amazing! You will not regret going to her. She did exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't be happier. I already have my next hair adventure in mind and Patricia will be the artist I see to make it happen. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND CAROLINA!!!!! I would rate 1 billion/ 10 if I could! A very friendly and patient hairstylist! She listened to everything I wanted and I finally got my dream look! I trust Carolina for all my future hair needs. When I came in my hair had faded highlights and tons of dead hair. After meeting with Carolina she revived my hair with fresh layers and a vibrant new hair color! I have VERY CURLY hair that is hard to manage but she clearly knows how to work with curly hair which is hard to find! I have not stopped getting compliments on my hair and I am in love with it! I live out of state but come to Coronado for a couple of months in the year. I have been going to Lauren for my hair I believe for 6 years . I love how she listens to what I am saying , I can send her Pinterest pics and I ALWAYS leave so happy with my hair. Jessica is the esthetician and I had my first facial with her yesterday. My skin looks like I am 15 years younger, and she has the most, only word I can think of is zen like way of applying the products to my face. The salon is always clean, people are friendly and the salon it's self is charming I have no qualms about recommending Roses. read more

VANESSA VANESSA VANESSA! If you're looking for an amazing and affordable hairstylist, don't look any further. I've been going to her for quite some time now and I have NEVER ever had a complaint. I am EXTREMELY anal about my hair because I love it long but i also tend to apply a lot of heat to it. So when i go in for a trim, she always knows what she's doing to salvage my split ends but not turn my long hair into a short bob. Whether I want to add some blonde in my hair or darken it up, Vanessa aaaalways does my hair so perfectly and waaay better than the pictures I show her for inspiration. Not only is she great at hair but she is also extremely social and sweet so you are never feeling awkward or uncomfortable. She literally does it all and she's soooo talented at it! 10 out of 10 highly recommend her as your next hairdresser! read more

Vanessa is my go to girl. I completely trust her with my hair, and she ALWAYS does an amazing job. I've got a ton of thick hair and it can be a lot to take on...poor thing gets an arm workout with me! She's so sweet and knows what she's doing. I never worry about her cutting off too much, which has happened in the past at other salons. I live in Del Mar and will still drive to Coronado to see her! The salon is super cute and everyone is friendly. Amazing staff and customer service every time I visit. I would highly recommend Roses! Warning: My wife came home crying. You would expect the service on Coronado to be great and the skill level of individuals who cut hair to be amazing, but that is not the case for this salon. They absolutely butchered my wife's hair and did not listen to her when she expressed what she wanted done. I wouldn't roll the dice with "Roses The Salon". Seriously, they do not listen to what you want, or pay attention to the pictures you show, and you will be in the same boat having to wait until it grows back. My wife has had the same hair cut for over 5 years so I know she knows how to express the style she wants. She has had to do this to several hairstylists for we have moved around where she has had to find a new place. Venture over the bridge where there is competition and stylists have to be great to be employed. For the worst hair cut ever text: 619-865-3263 read more

A few months ago I got a pixie cut from a great salon in Arizona, but it had since grown out so I went to Roses the Salon to get "a trim...take the bulk out of the back". Instead Vanessa misunderstood what I wanted, and hacked my hair to look like a man's cut - she ended up giving me a modified high 'n tight. I told her I didn't want it to look like a dude's, and just trim it. I even showed her pictures from my initial cut in Arizona. I'm afraid of what it would have looked like if I hadn't told her to stop cutting & leave the rest of the length. I'm so upset with the less than 1" on my left side, the stair-step failed blend, the lack of a "sleek & sexy" cut, and the lack of versatility with what I now have. LUCKILY for me my hair grows quickly. They were WONDERFUL though when I called the next day to let them know how upset I was with my haircut. I spoke with Tracie, who offered me a deep conditioning to make up for my disppoinment. When I went in to see Tracie later that day she worked with me to clean up the blending. As my hair grew out she kept up with my trims to help everything grow evenly into a nice feminine cut. TRACIE IS FABULOUS! Just the experience I was expecting at first, and now I won't trust anyone else with cutting my short hair. She knows how to take her time with consultation to fully understand what I want - giving me the edgy, feminine, pixie cut that I love! read more

Jaclyn is amazing! The day before my appointment she did a text consultation and was great with communication and answering any questions I had. I was nervous going in because I had a lot of previous work done in my hair that I knew would be difficult to work and color over. However, Jaclyn explained what she was doing as she was doing it so I felt comfortable knowing what was going on and the end result was better than I could've imagined. I also love how she cut it, and she gave me great advice on how to take care of my hair at home. The salon itself is really cute, clean, and overall fun to be in, would definitely recommend! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. First off, it is very small, and has at least 7 workstations - 4 pedicure and 3 (possibly 4) hairdressing. So, it's crowded. The staff all like each other, which is great -- but it also means they're yelling -- cheerfully -- at each other constantly. If you're looking for something quiet and relaxing, this is not the place to go. My pedicurist, Mai Lam, was technically o.k. -- but she kept up a non-stop conversation, in Vietnamese, with Miss Kim, who had the workstation next to her -- going so far as to barely look at me while doing my pedicure. When someone is clipping around your toenails with a sharp instrument, you'd like them to Pay Attention to your feet, and not to what the pedicurist in the next booth is saying. She and Miss Kim talked on and on, for 40 minutes, until another client showed up. At one point, while Mai was buffing my nails with an emery board, she turned head and shoulders completely around to start talking to the pedicurist behind her -- and ended up buffing / scraping the skin on my toes (below the nails) instead. Ouch. I had to reach out and grab her, just to get her attention, and to keep her from sanding my toes any further. At the end, she did the old "do you need change from this?" when I gave her two twenties for a $35 charge. I hate that -- but most aestheticians (and waiters, for that matter) do it. I said no, and left. I went here on Amy B's recommendation, from almost a year ago (6/20/2010). I won't be back. Carie Ruiz over at Sanctuary Salon, just 2 blocks down, does a much better job. read more

I received a gift certificate to Roses The Salon from an event I attended. I made my appointment with Shelly and was VERY happy with the result. She was talkative, friendly, and engaging. I have been to other places where they never or barely talked to me while getting my hair cut. She asked what I wanted and I explained that I wanted a new cut and that my husband was coming home soon and she took what I said and did an excellent job. The salon is clean, professional and friendly. I was greeted when I stepped in the door and was told goodbye on the way out. I will be going back for another hair cut there again. read more

I have to say Valentino Nieto is AMAZING! I am very nervous when having any thing done to my hair. Valentino is a Genius, he knows exactly what cut I should have, and the color...fantastic. Mai Lam at Roses gives the best pedicure ever! The pedicure comes with a leg and foot massage, which is so relaxing. Also, I am very picky about where to go for a pedicure when it comes to cleanliness. I highly recommend Mai, who does a wonderful job and is always smiling! read more

I desperately needed my hair done and found roses the salon on yelp! I am the type of woman who tends to have hair issues. I am never satisfied unless it is long and unruly! Recently, I combed out dreadlocks and my hair is quite damaged. I knew I needed it cut so that new growth could occur. I was terrified that my hair would be too short and I wouldn't like it. I had a consultation with Marci, the owner. She walked me through the process and calmed my nerves. I threw a curve ball and decided not only did I want my hair cut, but I wanted my almost black hair...purple! She didn't flinch! She smiled and said that would be totally doable and she would use amazing products to build up my hair while we were taking the color down. I scheduled my appointment and drove across the bridge to lovely Coronado. Marci and a couple of other stylists: Vanessa and Cara, got to work on lightening my hair. After lightened, the purple was added and the cut occurred!!!! I loved how she kept it as long as possible and it looks healthier than it has ever looked!!! I was so happy with my hair that I took business cards to put in my coffee shop! Roses the salon was a brilliant find and I will definitely come back!!! Thanks Marci for keeping my faith!!! read more

Vanessa is the BEST!!! Not only is she super sweet and fun to talk to while you get your hair cut, she is also fantastic at what she does. Visiting from San Francisco area. Cindy's gel manicure was perfection as was Kim's pedicure. The salon has no pedi-massage chairs which is NOT a drawback. I received extended massages during both of my treatments that seem to last as long as the pedicure and manicure. Friendly engaging service. The staff clearly enjoys working there. Cost a bit higher than north of San Francisco yet not excessive. read more

I went in asking for dip powder and showed a picture of what I wanted which is the first picture I'm posting. I'm a little disappointed because I paid way more than what I would have at a regular nail salon and received uneven and crooked nails the lady was very nice but in a big rush to finish my nails. My cuticles weren't even taken care of as you can see in the pictures and each nail is a different shape, none of them look the same. read more

I went here the day before 4th of July. I called that morning and was happy to hear that they were able to get me in that day (I was lucky, they had a 1100 appt). My stylist was Jaime who was very sweet and listened to what I wanted. She gave me a very good scalp massage with the shampoo and I am happy with my cut. I will be back! Prices are reasonable, my cut and wash was $45 and I have long hair. The salon is not small like other reviewers said (I think they are referring to Sanctuary Salon and Day Spa down the street). This place had well over 10 hair stylists and my gal had a private room in the back. It looks small from the street but once you go in it's super trendy and opens up to a whole other room in the back. I liked it because everyone seems young and cool. My experience with the other place I mentioned down the street, they seemed kinda snobby. The vibe here was way better! read more

Went here yesterday for the first time with a friend for pedicures after reading other reviews. Loved it! My pedi included about a twenty minute massage of my feet and legs, not like the 30 second massages they'll jipp you with at other places. And she spent enough time on my calluses to really make my feet smooth--again, not like the quick once-over you get at lesser salons. Kinda expensive, but worth it. read more
