I feel bad giving such a bad review when they don't have any other reviews yet, but this was the worst service I've ever experienced.
We came here on a weekday around 6PM and it was crowded at the bar, but there were a few open tables. We asked for a table and were told it would be ready shortly. We stood there for like 20 minutes while no one got a table ready for us. Another customer came up to us and asked us if we were in line to pay and we told her no, so she searched for a staff member and asked him to help her. At the time, I didn't find this unusual because I thought it was the type of restaurant where you pay at the cashier. In hindsight, she was stuck at her table for so long she had to go up to the cash register and ask to be checked out because it was taking so long (we experienced the long wait, too).
We were seated and the restaurant is actually super cool it has a lot of cool neon signs and is just a really great aesthetic, so I wish the service had been better because I would've loved this place. We waited probably 30 minutes to order drinks/for anyone to even come over to our table. We actually had to flag someone down and he told us he couldn't take our drink order but one of his colleagues would come over. When a bartender finally came over to take our drink order, I assumed his coworker had meant only someone at the bar could take our order but I then realized both men worked at the bar, so i am still confused as to why the first man couldn't take our order.
We then waited another 40 minutes for our drinks. We had to ask 3 different servers for our drinks. We finally flagged down a waitress to order 3 quesadillas. We asked for 2 with chorizo and one without. We clarified this quite a few times and she said it would be no problem. When the quesadillas finally arrived (they were super small btw) none of them had chorizo inside. I asked the woman who delivered our food if any had chorizo inside to confirm and she said no it was in the dip, but none of us could find the chorizo in the dip + we had asked for on without chorizo anyway if it was in the dip. I think this was a language barrier issue but I'm not sure.
We had tried to stop in here for a quick appetizer and drinks, but it turned into us being here for an hour and 4 minutes and only getting 3 drinks and 3 quesadillas. The servers kept telling us "our drinks will be ready soon" but we could see the bartenders socializing at the bar and giving customers sitting at the bar seconds and even thirds on drinks before ours were made. It seemed like there were a lot of customers that were friends with each other and the bartenders, which could create a cool and fun environment if they weren't appearing to be strictly preferred over other customers. The lasting thing we wanted was to act like rude tourists, and we thought maybe we just didn't understand the vibe and it was a slow style restaurant. We then heard another table complain they hadn't gotten drinks and it had been 45 minutes and the customer got angry with the server saying he had also been told multiple times his drinks would be ready "soon."
One server told us they were slightly understaffed I think. But he didn't tell us that until after he gave us his check And that was the first and only semi apology we got. I was really shocked by this whole experience because I've never experienced such slow and unacceptable service.
Maybe on other nights when they have full staff and it isn't a full bar of friends it would not be the same experience. Unfortunately, we were just visitors to amsterdam so I will never know because if I return I will not come back here and waste time. Sorry to bash if this isn't the typical experience. The restaurant has a great aesthetic though! read more
