She comes to New York every 10 weeks to work on her NY Clientele, but lives in Tennessee, (When i read that she gets flown to NY just to cut her NY Clientele's hair, I knew she had talent). She is a Level 3 Deva-Certified Stylist, meaning according to the Deva website: "A Level 3 Deva Certified Stylist has reached the highest level of curl expertise offered through the DevaCurl Academy and has passed a technical evaluation and written exam". Besides having the hands of a goddess, she has curly hair as well, so she understands our dilemma, and she is super friendly. Background info of my hair: I have thin curly hair that is a type 3B. My hair is tightly curled at the ends and just curly-wavey at the root, which I've worked so hard to get my hair this way since I had over processed hair from bleaching it. I went to a salon in Merrick called Beautiful People, where they promote to specialize in Curly hair, which they DO NOT! The stylist BOMBED my haircut! I showed her an image of the deva-cut that i wanted and she gave me a curly bob instead. I was so upset. This happened in October 2015. Fast forward to April, I came across Amani salon from searching on Devacurl.com for a stylist who has had Deva-cut training. Unfortunately, you have to wait until Teresa is back in town which only happens every 10 weeks, and she is only here for 3 days! So she gets REALLY booked! I had to book my appointment in April to have my haircut in July. Teresa did not rush in cutting my hair even though the salon was closing in 10 min by the time she reached half my head of hair. She was so kind and patient and gave the same attention to EVERY CURL in my head. Overall, I highly recommend this salon and a haircut with Teresa. (It costs $150 for the haircut and wash, but totally worth every penny!).

However, as my experience progressed, it became clear that their expertise was limited. Vanessa, the main stylist, seemed accommodating at first, inquiring about my desired haircut and style. I opted for a simple wash and blow-dry, given the texture of my hair. She seemed well-versed in different curl types since she asked if I came in for a DevaCut to bring out my curl definition. But things took a turn when she began working on my hair. My hair is 3C-4B, and I had undergone a keratin treatment 9 months prior. This means my hair is curly while wet, but manageable due to the treatment. Yolanda really shined during my appointment, helping to detangle and blow-dry my hair. Vanessa was extremely gentle while styling, but the skill level required for curly hair wasn't quite there. She added product after every section, and only used a single pass of the flat iron. I'm all for heat damage prevention but extra passes are often required for curls. Yolanda was amazing though; her technique tamed my locks to nearly straight perfection. My regular salon was closed so I took a chance here, which didn't pan out. The staff were sweet, so this isn't meant to be a reflection on their character, but rather about the quality of work they delivered on an unusually difficult client. A wash and blow-dry will cost you $35, but if your hair needs extra work there is an additional fee of $5. The pricing is still more than reasonable, however, be aware that if you have textured or curly hair you may end up needing to pay a bit more.

I'm trying to grow out my hair from a really short cut I had done around the end of July but I hate that damn awkward tail I get when I do a really short cut and it starts growing out so I wanted to get a trim. I walked in a few minutes early but they took me in early to start on my hair. One of the owners worked on me, I'm not sure what his name was but he was a nice older Italian guy, happy, funny and full of wisdom. He shampooed my hair because the shampoo girl wasn't in yet. He gave it a trim and a nice style and after going back and forth nicely he agreed to cut off a small bit of my damn tail. He didn't want to cut much of it at first because he wanted my hair to grow out a little more evenly but he did after I told him it was driving me crazy. He explained to me he had a shop in the city but after 9/11 he opened up on the island because he saw everything happen from the Brooklyn Bridge and he decided he'd be better working on the Island. Overall I had a pleasant and fun time getting my haircut. I loved the girl I was using in Farmingville I just didn't want to keep driving that far. My groupon deal was pretty amazing, but normally they charge $50 for a wash, cut and blow out here which is the average price of a salon. I'm still not sure if I'm going to try other salons through groupon, or by recommendation before I settle on a new home salon or make Bellezza my new home salon. I am impressed with this place for sure.

Everyone who works there dresses in costume for Halloween and they have snacks and other goodies for those who care to indulge while waiting to get their hair done. They even have a contest -- the patrons get to vote who has the best costume. All-in-all it is a well respected, and well established hair salon with very good people working for them. And the price is right too.
