Dr. Rosenberg gets 2 stars because he didn't keep me waiting too long past my appointment time, and he did spend more than 10 minutes with me. Unfortunately, it didn't do any good. He treated me like a moron, didn't listen, and didn't solve my problem. So he only gets 2 stars. I was born with my right ureter through a muscle, which caused many kidney infections as a child. The local doctor misdiagnosed this as backwash. Luckily, my mom persevered and got a correct diagnosis and I was successfully operated on when I was 6. Last year (at 28), I had 3 kidney infections within 6 months. I thought this was a problem, so I starting the slow path through the insurance and doctoral hoops until I finally got to a urologist, who had a test done, which revealed that (surprise surprise) my right kidney had reduced functioning. He said this was likely due to scar tissue from the childhood operation, and could be fixed easily enough. Unfortunately, I moved to SF before we could get on with the fixing. The old urologist recommended Dr. Rosenberg here in SF, and I immediately made an appointment in hopes that we could start out where I had left off with other urologist. I brought with me my chart from the other urologist, including the results of the kidney function test. I wrote down my whole history in their "new patient" forms, and then told it all to Dr. Rosenberg. He pretended to listen, and then proceeded with the generally uncomfortable process of manually exploring my urinary tract. Below is a small excerpt of the frustrating conversation that ensued: Dr: It's probably backwash. Me: Actually, that is what I was misdiagnosed with as a child. Dr: Hmm. So, where's your scar? Me: On my lower abdomen. (Dr. examines scar on lower abdomen) Dr: Well, that is not where the scar should be, if the operation was what you said. It should be up here on your side. (Dr. proceeds to physically turn me and search for a scar on my side. Like there really might be a scar there that I had not noticed in the past quarter century. Like maybe I got a long thin scar on my lower abdomen through some other childhood scrape, like, I dunno, falling off a bike, and that distracted me from the REAL surgery scar on my side, unnoticed by me until the astute Dr. pointed it out.) Me: Um, no, I am sure I don't have a scar on my side. I don't know exactly how they did the operation, but I know it was my ureter through a muscle. Dr. (giving up on searching for the elusive side scar, but with no explanation as to the actual scar on my lower abdomen): Couldn't have been. It's probably backwash. Highly recommended! I have had the unpleasant experience of undergoing five kidney operations....but extremely fortunate to have been treated by San Francisco Urology's Dr. Stuart Rosenberg and Dr. Rodman Rogers!! This was my first major surgery, and I was scared out of my mind. It kept me up at night and prevented me from focusing at work. I happen to be very attached to my kidneys, so I shopped around BIG time. After considerable research and consternation, I went with Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Rogers. Collectively, over the course of three months, they gave me the treatment I needed. Dr. Rosenberg did three lithotripsy operations on my left kidney. Dr. Rogers did the two laparoscopic surgeries on my right kidney. I am soooooo glad to have chosen these two doctors. They are highly credentialed and experienced. Moreover, they were both VERY patient, articulate, and forthcoming when explaining my options. They did a great job of "breaking it down" for me while conveying confidence, professionalism, and care. They visited me regularly while recovering at the hospital. After checking out, the doctors and their staff were always available by telephone to answer questions and address concerns. It was readily apparent to me that their patients come first. My kidney stones fell into the hard to treat category. As a result, both doctors had to perform follow-up operations on short notice. Their staff made all the necessary scheduling and hospital arrangements quickly....on one occasion, in as little as 24 hours. My girlfriend is a surgeon, and she tells me my surgery scars are sexy. I am guessing that is a surgeon thing...but she has told me numerous times what a great job they did closing me up. Its just one of many indicators of their competence and level of care. Bottom line, I am so very deeply appreciative for what these two doctors did for me. I HIGHLY recommend them! I hesitate to write a review about my experiences at a doctor's office, mostly because I'd rather not divulge any private medical information...so here goes my attempt to be discreet... I was referred to a urologist by a doctor who was efficient, but didn't have the best bedside manner (and was rather quick to give me the worst-case scenario explanation for what was going on). After that nightmare, I wanted an appointment with a doctor who had better bedside manner. Dr. Rosenberg was listed under my insurance plan, so I set up an appointment with him. Staff: VERY friendly, answered all my questions, and assured me that Dr. Rosenberg was a very kind doctor. Dr. Rosenberg: As the staffed promised, Dr. Rosenberg was kind and very patient in answering my questions. He had to perform a very uncomfortable procedure, but talked me through it, had a nurse standing by to make sure I was comfortable, and assured me a million times that I was definitely cancer free. Am I a bit of a hypochondriac? Sure. But that shouldn't detract from the fact that I received excellent health care from Dr. Rosenberg. read more

I wouldn't wish Dr. Rosenberg or his horrible back office on my worst enemy. Every interaction with the office was a failure. I showed up for an appointment, and they had no record of it. I called and left a message and they failed to return the call. The procedure itself left me hardly able to walk for months. It was unlike anything anyone I have known ever experienced. And still, I wasn't even going to write a negative review until today when I finally had enough. I was told I could just drop off a sample, and getting to Dr. Rosenberg's office is not an easy trip for me. I get there and am told that he has to be there to analyze the specimen and they won't take it. At this point, honest to god, I can't even deal with them anymore. First off, I feel bad for the person below who had a not-so-good experience with Dr. Rosenberg. Luckily, for me, this doctor has been a godsend. I'm not going to go into private details about my plumbing, but I can tell you that Dr. Rosenberg has saved me from nearly 10 years of urinary problems. I saw another urologist about 7 years ago. I had extensive testing done, some of which was excruciatingly painful!!!! I gave up and suffered for the past several years, too traumatized to go through any more painful procedures. In a matter of 2 painless visits with Dr. Rosenberg, he got me on a medication that has given me the ability to sleep through the night in peace--something I have not done in a decade! I couldn't say enough good things about this doctor. Further, they run a tight ship. After years of pain, multiple hospital stays, a host of doctors from a wide array of specialties I came to Dr. Rosenberg as a last resort. He diagnosed me in under 10 minutes and successfully treated me. Being treated by Dr Rosenberg was a life changer for me. Several months have passed since my two visits with him, and I can say that I've recovered fully. It's hard to put in words how much my life has changed after being treated by Dr Rosenberg... all I can say is my quality of life has improved in more ways than I could have anticipated and I'm forever grateful for his help. I was nervous because it was my first time seeing a urologist, but I immediately felt at ease with Dr Rosenberg. I was stressed and frustrated about my health, but he listened to me patiently and asked questions in a friendly and professional manner. Dr. Rosenberg and his staff are all very friendly, pleasant and helpful. I came with a common lady problem - but Dr. Rosenberg actually identified another problem that I have been facing (but never thought of it as a "problem") which didn't seem to be related the original problem I came for. That is how thorough he was. When he asked me if I've been having that problem - I was shocked ! When he showed me the simple exercise to solve the problem - I was even more shocked ! It is amazing how every muscle and nerve in our body is all connected. I was fully satisfied with the service Dr. Rosenberg and his staff gave me during my visits. Dr. Rosenberg has been my urologist the past three years. I have nothing but great things to say about him and his staff. They are all top-notch professionals and I would highly recommend them. Not only is Dr, Rosenberg knowledgeable, but he has one of the best bedside manners exhibited by any doctor! He really does care and he takes time to explain procedures, etc. I wish he was my PCP! Today I called the office right after lunch with an urgent matter. I was having severe pain, hematuria (blood in the urine) and I was running a low-grade fever. I suspected I had a urinary tract infection (UTI). The staff was so great and they told me to get over to the office as soon as I could (I live in the East Bay), and Dr. Rosenberg would fit me in. I no sooner checked in with the receptionist before I was called back to a room. I didn't even have time to sit down. LOL After completing the urinalysis, Dr. Rosenberg did confirm my suspicion: it was a pretty nasty UTI. He gave me antibiotics and sent me on the way. I had blood in my urine and my GP sent me to Stuart Rosenberg MD for a consult, scope bladder and referral for abdominal CT Scan. I called and Marilyn in front office answered phone and looking at schedule I couldn't be seen for a week. I think she could hear that I was a tad bit stressed after taking a red pee and put me on hold and came back on phone and squeezed me in that afternoon. How nice is that? Went into office and Dr Rosenberg couldn't have been nicer. A great guy. Said he wanted to get a CT Scan and then do scope after he got results. Went to front to have another front office person help me schedule CT and told her I'd like to have ASAP--she called a couple of CPMC scan places and got me a scan the next day. She also said the Doc was busy but she scheduled me for read of results and scope for 2 days. How nice is that. I could be wrong but I think he might have come in early. Nothing I hate worse than waiting to find out if something is wrong and this office went above and beyond to make sure I wasn't going to do that. All the front desk people are great and I meet one of Dr Rosenberg's partners and he was also great. I wish all Doctors and front desk people were like this office. They're the best, efficient and SUPER NICE. I highly recommend this office if you need to see a urologist. Great experience. By the way I'm ok just a bunch of kidney stones. Update This is my second review in a month for Dr. Rosenberg. I've never left two reviews on Yelp and the 5 star doesn't count but I feel that Dr. Rosenberg and his staff deserve a write up on the exceptional patient care displayed by this medical practice. I had a follow up visit today that the office had to cancel because Dr Rosenberg had an emergency surgery and couldn't be back in office for my appointment. I totally understand that sometimes things are beyond the doctors control and obviously the person in surgery needed Dr Rosenberg skill as a surgeon and mine was a follow up appointment. Marylyn called 90 minutes before my appointment so it wasn't a big deal because I hadn't left home. She offered me a later appointment that day or I could schedule another day. At 4:45 in the afternoon I get a phone call from Dr Rosenberg to apologize for having to change my appointment and see how I was doing. I'm 66 years old and have been to numerous doctors and can't think of another time that I got a phone call from a doctor. Dr. Rosenberg seems to know what he is doing, except good luck getting results. I went for a procedure and had urine tested for cancer. This was done on August 1st. I never heard from him, so in September I called to complain. They said they would send me something. A month later I get something in the mail -- it was some kind of lab report -- nothing that made any sense to me. I called the office again complaining. A nurse practitioner called & gave me my results in English (basically nothing wrong). Complained to her & she said she would have Dr. Rosenberg call me. I finally get a call from the good doctor who claimed to have called me sheepishly & unconvincingly. He did not call me. What is the point of going to a doctor if you don't get the results of tests!! Btw, the doctor has no problem sending out bills as before I finally got a call from Dr. Rosenberg I received not one, but 2 bills for his services. Aren't results a part of doctoring? Where is the doctoring if they don't let you know the results!!!!!! Go somewhere else, I am! This is not good doctoring!!!!! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Rosenberg since I was diagnosed with cancer six years ago. I want to give a nod to him and his efficient staff for the great care I've received over the years. Follow-up appointments are always scheduled at the end of each examination, surgery scheduling and post-op appointment are always promptly made, with reminder calls, and personal follow-up calls after biopsies. His office team has always treated me with dignity and respect, and from my seat in the waiting room I see an efficient, cohesive team working for me. Having cancer is unrelentingly stressful, and it can put one on edge, and can even sour one's view on life, but I say that having a team of outstanding professionals who give me straight talk in dire times is the best medical care I can get. I've been going to Dr. Rosenberg for nearly 20 years and regularly for over ten years, three to four times a month. First of all, he is cheerful, easy going, calm, relaxed. So, that's how I feel when I see him. His expertise is beyond compare. (I once had to go over to the Urology Dept at UCSF....what a zoo). His practice office is homey, comfortable, not cold or clinical. I never dread going to see him, we have developed a great relationship/raport and would absolutely be frantic if he were no longer available to me. This is a nice man who is a doctor. read more

Dr Rosenberg made a biopsy into a cakewalk. I'd been told by other men that a prostate biopsy was painful. After all, the Dr. sticks a cigar shaped ultrasound probe into the rectum and fires 6 to 12 large needles through the rectum wall into the prostate. Ouch! Rosenberg took the extra time and effort to use a numbing substance, wait five minutes and then inject something like novocaine into the rectum, wait another ten minutes, and finally perform the procedure. He turned what might have been excruciating procedure into a nuisance. I'm grateful to have a urologist who studies up on the latest techniques and cares enough about his patients to use them. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Rosenberg since I landed in a hospital two years ago. After that, I suddenly started having urinary problems where nothing was working. I went to see a gynocologist who recommended another urologist who could not see me. I had heard about Dr. Stuart Rosenberg. His office staff is terrific right from the time you make an appointment. When I reached Dr. Rosenberg's office, he made the time to get me in and begin to give me instant relief. I couldn't believe anybody could help me so fast. He was so understanding, empathetic, and kind. That evening, he called to see how things were going. You have to agree that that kind of follow-up and care is above and beyond what any doctor will do today. I do see Dr. Rosenberg now about every six weeks. I continue to see improvement in my situation. His advice and suggestions come from his years of experience. Each patient is unique. Patients are treated with kindness, care, and professionalism by Dr. Rosenberg and his entire staff. It is amazing how Dr. Rosenberg works with you to help you through difficult times. I have found that if you follow Dr. Rosenberg's advice you will improve and you can resume you life as usual. I have been going to Dr. Stuart Rosenberg for about 6 years. I had never been to a urologist before and I didn't know what to expect or what problems they treated. My primary physician sent me there for a pre-surgery problem. Prior to my initial appointment, all I knew about urologists, were that they were the brunt of comedians' and sitcom jokes. My first contact was with his staff to make the appointment .... WOW. I can't say enough about them. They are professional, knowledgeable and always call me by name, and they do their best to accommodate my needs, especially when making or changing appointments. Dr. Rosenberg really knows his stuff (and mine) and has been right on the ball for whatever treatment and medication he has given me. As most women know, as you get older, your bladder seems to take over your life and Dr. Rosenberg has done his best to handle all my problems. I say this with the utmost respect for him and I mean it sincerely... he is skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, a good listener, and most of all caring, and at times... a character with a great sense of humor. I was sent to see Dr. Rosenberg by my GP who it turns out was mistaken in what she thought was wrong with me - thankfully!! Dr. Rosenberg knew immediately what was wrong with me and it turns out it's a muscular issue - nothing that can't be remedied pretty easily. He said he sees 5-10 women with this issue per week! And, he is one of the only doctors who diagnoses it correctly. If you've had UTI-like symptoms but test negative for a UTI, go see Dr. Rosenberg! Based on the positive reviews posted and based on my situation I was eager to find a urologist that i could see on a regular basis. That definitely won't be Dr. Rosenberg! Not only was his receptionist and front office staff rude but after they advised to cancel 2 prior appointments I was told I was not a reliable patient and the doctor refused to see me even though those cancellations were not of my doing or my choice. I was previously scheduled to see Dr. Werboff who did not have experience with my situation which is why they recommended I cancel the appointment, the first time was because they had not processed the referral from my PCP. So because this is reflected in their system Dr Rosenberg made a judgement call to state I was not a reliable patient so he refused to see me. They tried to make me feel bad for what they did. Clearly he is a doctor I would not want to see based on his rudeness and the fact that judged me when he has never seen me. He is an A**hole! I would never recommend anyone to him! read more

Stuart Rosenberg is unquestionably the finest physician I have yet to encounter. I was dealing with a very strange urinary related issue & had pain and pressure that was driving me absolutely crazy! I didn't leave the house for almost a week because of this issue because I could not stray far from a restroom! It was terrible. I saw four physicians in one week and they conducted test after test without resolve. I was placed on antibiotic without resolve. They assumed it was a bladder infection (which it was NOT). No physician could identify the issue. Then a close friend recommended I see Dr. Rosenberg. The very first time I was in to see him he was able to identify the problem. He was thorough, professional, and evaluated my unique case walking me through the details and explaining how and why he believed this was occurring. He walked me through a treatment plan. I have to admit i was a bit skeptical and frustrated, however, within a few days i was feeling back to my usual fabulous self -- working out, going out and enjoying life again at 100%! I cannot tell you how indebted I feel to Dr. Rosenberg. If you need to see a urologist look no further than Dr. Rosenberg. Very disappointing experience. My GP sent me to him to see about getting the Greenlight Laser surgery for my BPH. It took forever to get an appointment, and then when I did see him, it turned he didn't do that procedure. He referred me to Dr. Shinohara, but after waiting another 30 days to see Him, I found out that he doesn't do it anymore either. What a waste of time and money! read more

I called the office to obtain a price on removing a kidney stone. The receptionist gave me the number for the billing department. I was told that the receptionist shouldn't have referred me to them. When I called the office again, the receptionist told me that the billing department didn't like to give out numbers. That begs the question of why she gave me the number when she knew what their response was likely to be. When you have two departments that aren't on the same page, you have problems. read more

Dr. Rosenberg is amazing! Never have I had a doctor who is so focused on treating the person. I had insurance issues, but instead of sending me away, he has been meeting with me to see the situation through. That is so incredibly rare and I honestly cannot believe how lucky I am that he is so generous with his time and truly cares about his patients. Beyond that he and his staff are so genuine and warm that they alleviate any anxiety associated with attending appointments and discussing concerns. I stumbled into Dr. Rosenberg's office a mess about a year ago. I have had urinary problems off and on for the past ten years and in the past two years it got so bad I was in and out of the emergency room, my kidneys felt like they were ballooning up. Other doctors just kept shoving antibiotics at me and telling me I just had UTIs and that nothing was wrong with my kidneys. So when I arrived at Dr. Rosenberg's office, Andrea at the front desk took one look at me and asked why I wasn't in Urgent Care. When I explained my situation through the tears and nausea, she worked me in and Dr. Rosenberg was examining me within half an hour. A year later and I am a different person. He actually took the time to diagnose me and paid attention to my request the limit the antibiotic consumption and gave space for a alternative healing route since my body was still recovering from the loads of antibiotics I had been on. He taught me so much about how my body was functioning that I was able to work with it instead of against it. It was not a quick treatment, but I have a feeling it is going to be a lasting one. I almost cried in my last appointment when he said "I think you are almost completely recovered." In regards to some of the comments here, I have noticed he as I come in for routine check ups, he does rush through those appointments, but that is only because he is in high demand. Dr. Stuart Rosenberg has been my urologist for five years. He is a superb clinician and surgeon. He is competent, knowledgeable, warm and pleasant. He took a genuine concern in my well being. He answered all my questions and took time with me. I had a procedure in his office. He was kind and patient. I also had an outpatient procedure in the hospital with him as my surgeon. All went smoothly during the procedure and my recovery was perfect. I have gone to doctors for test results only to wait in the examining room while the staff calls and gets the results. Not in this office! Dr. Rosenberg was able to access my scans and tests with his electronic medical record system. Also I needed a scan and his office was able to obtain an authorization from the insurance company in 30 minutes! Doctor Rosenberg, Gigi and the rest of the staff are a great team. Everyone makes you feel welcome. I work in the medical field so my expectations are higher than most. This office has surpassed all my expectations.
