She went to the hospital from pneumonia at the end and found out she had bedsores, hadn't been bathed or fed for 3-4 days and had terrible thrush in her mouth from teeth not being brushed for weeks as she wasn't capable of doing it herself or taking care of her ADL's. While a lot of the staff are pleasant and friendly they neglect the people there and are understaffed and the facility reeks. She is no longer here as she has moved to the springs in Richmond and is much happier. They also dis enrolled her from her medical plan and drug coverage without my approval as her POA. The name has changed from heritage house and is still going off the cms ratings of it being a high performing facility which is not true. Some staff there Social services Emily is great Tiffany is good Kailey is great Ally good Selena is good Brenda not good Jordan night nurse is bad asked her to not come in her room Have a friend whose mother actually died there last year from neglect which only found out about recently.

My sister is currently a resident at Maple Park. I visit a couple times per week; due to my work…read moreschedule, I usually visit early evenings and weekends. The majority of the times,I'm there; the aides function as baby sitters. sitting at the desk or other chairs minimally interacting with residents. Sometimes the TV is on but most residents are not wheeled close enough to watch or hear. Music is not played, although research clearly shows music is excellent therapy for patients with dementia, which the majority of residents suffer from. I will usually play music on my phone while there and residents visually perk up. A couple times, I've asked the aides to please put some music on to no avail. My sister is in her wheelchair all day from morning till night. When I come in, she is sitting with her head just hanging down. She is verbal and experiences minimal conversation with the aides, as they sit, observe with minimal interaction; virtual babysitting. The room is usually just dead silent. There is an activities lady who comes in during the week days and she clearly makes a wonderful difference for these dear residents. Early evenings and weekends are a depressing atmosphere at Maple Park. Ive spoken with my sister's social worker with minimal results. The aides appear bored and rarely smile with the residents. Thank you for taking time to read this.

This is not the prettiest facility, but please, please, PLEASE don't let that hold you back!…read more I moved my very sick father, from a beautiful facility in Carmel, where he was ignored, his health deteriorated, and he was hospitalized several times. The staff at American Senior Communities in Westfield takes care of their patients, keeps the family updated, and works their best to get every last benefit you can out of Medicare and Medicaid. The facility director gave me his personal cell phone number; and the head of nursing gave me her cell phone number as well. You will always be able to reach someone. It is a wonderful facility, that will take great care of your family member. One of my dad's nurses actually sketched a picture of him, and shared it with me; she truly cared for my father. I will take excellent care over pretty rooms any day.

I had a similar experience as the other reviewer on here, was sent to respite to get stomach pain…read moreunder control it was a disaster. I was in hospice for about three years, the first 2 nurses I had were great! Unfortunately I have several medical issues that hospice could not treat me for and the last 8 months I was in hospice were pure hell, the 2 nurses I had treated me poorly I couldn't get them to come when I needed help nor could I ever speak with the doctor EVER! When I finally revoked hospice I was left with no after care, they took all my meds away and I had no doctors set up to take over my care, it was very unprofessional and I'm still trying to get on my feet. I would suggest you or your loved one are certain you're going to pass under 6 months before you contact a hospice facility. I can not recommend Reid hospice because of the hostel way I was treated at the end but there are other great hospice services not affiliated with Reid and I recommend you do your research before committing. Nobody should be treated the way I was and I pray Nobody encounters what I did. The receptionist is amazing there I can't say enough good things about her but the nurses are given too much authority when the doctor should have been more involved with the way I was being treated. Shop around and good luck to you.

Unfortunately, I'm in a position to review this…read more In March 2011, my mum was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. This came on the heels of an unrelated Bladder Cancer that had been completely removed. She started chemotherapy after some debate and thought. The first two, differing treatments did not go well, but sparing you details, I had called her Internist and he set up an assessment visit with these people. Yvonne was extremely compassionate and tried to make things as smooth as possible. In a week, she had gone from barely breathing and barely conscious to nearly her regular self. After a couple more weeks, we canceled hospice care. Jan, the assigned nurse, and Virginia, the aide came to visit, rather than stay with my mum. There were several months where I provided care but the pain was increasing horribly. Maybe, 5 weeks before she died, we re-engaged hospice again. Mum had been experiencing horrific pain and the meds just weren't enough. She would wake at 9:30 or 10 in the morning, the pain would start about 11, and with all the meds I could give her, she would be unconscious from 3 to 10 at night. When she woke, I helped her to bed, as she was generally too weak to walk. Yvonne returned to do the assessment and Jan was assigned to be the visiting nurse. Several days into it, Jan asked if mum would like to go to hospital to better manage the pain and mum agreed to it. I'm sad to say that things were not as good as they should have been. Hospice shares an area on the 5th floor and they have possibly 6 beds. The admission and room assignment were done before we arrived, but the pain medication was nowhere to be found. It took nearly 3 hours for anything to be given. For two days, they went through the same cycle that I did, which made me feel vindicated, but still unhappy. The nurses assigned to the hospice beds were not hospice nurses. Several of them were uncomfortable with the dosages prescribed and given. This changed, except for two LPNs, during the time of her stay. Part way through the third day (the second full day) there, hospice nurse Marg showed up and took control, even though it was the end of her shift and she could have gone home. She changed things quite a bit and we argued about how to handle things and she actually listened to my input. She and Jan worked tirelessly. It was late when mum finally drifted off into unconsciousness. In any case, it took a few more days to get 24 hour control of the pain and then, they had to convert the meds to something I could administer at the house. They got it figured out, we took mum home, and things returned to the other routine. Sorry to go into so much detail but it's difficult to explain otherwise. The group did fine when they banded together. When they acted as home health care nurses, I think it wasn't so good. Perhaps, it was the cancer, the pain, and the meds, but it was much tougher for them to handle. They were helpful, but I'm not sure to what extent they could have been helpful. One thing that struck me as amazing was that several of the hospice workers showed up at the funeral home, hugged, and talked to me. I did not expect that, and I'm not sure that I could ask more. It takes special people to work in hospice. I couldn't do it.
