When the time came Shyla left this world on her favorite blanket in my arms while I scratched her ears. She never knew and that means so much to me. I have been through this before and seen vets cold and heartless, forcing a dog to wear a muzzle or rushing without compassion. My dog was previously misdiagnosed and this vet, Dr. Smith, correctly diagnosed her. It was sad news that he delivered to me. He stayed over an hour after closing time to give my daughter a chance to drive up and say her final good-bye to my sweet girl. It was clear to me that the doctor was as sad as I was and agreed with me that her kidney failure could not be reversed. It was a tough decision to put her down but his warm and compassionate, Christian way made it a beautiful passing instead of tragic.

My 15 week old puppy and I had a really big scare on Thursday/Friday. While on a walk she found a…read morerock and swallowed it in one gulp. I didn't even realize she had swallowed it until I heard her choking, and it was too late for me to try and get it out. All vets are closed except for emergencies due to the corona virus, so after she vomited multiple times I called to see if I could get her in at around 3pm. They were able to take her immediately. The xray showed it wasn't that big of a rock, but big enough that it wouldn't fit through her small intestines, and it was super sharp and jagged. Dr. Dawson advised emergency surgery to get it out. But between the xray and doing preop before opening her belly, somehow it moved up into her esophagus where they couldn't reach. They had to close her back up, and pray that overnight her body would force it back down into her stomach. Dr. Dawson checked on her regularly and gave me updates throughout the night until 10pm. He called me 15 minutes after they opened the next morning and fortunately, that's exactly what happened, so I asked them to open her a second time and they got it out! The communication was amazing, and Dr. Dawson was great at giving me my options and his recommendations each step of the way and respected my choices each time. He was VERY compassionate and obviously genuinely cared about my baby girl. Knowing how tight money was given the world pandemic and unemployment due to the virus, they were able to keep the cost to what I felt was a very reasonable price, all things considered. Thank you so much to South Shore Animal Hospital of Houghton Lake for getting this done despite operating on a stretched thin skeleton crew during COVID-19 and the Michigan lockdown. Teiris is doing well and recovering at home now!

This time though, we wanted to train them. Our vet recommended Drop the Leash. I liked that Valeria came to our house, rather than taking the dogs out of their own safe environment. Within minutes of Valeria working with the pups, they were responding to her instructions. It just got better from there. We took the six week course and not only did my wife and I look forward to Valeria coming, so did the pups. The end results were more than we imagined. We continue to work with the pups, now that the official training is over. Drop the Leash gave us, and our pups, the tools to make our lives together better. When we decide we can't live without another dog, we will call Drop the Leash before we go to pick the dog up. Anyway we came in to the vet due to her not feeling well the past 2 days, she had an incident with a dog where she had gotten bit in her lower abdomen. She told me she had an abscess that it was not that much of a concern. She took her temp and she was at 106 Wich is life threatening. She took no immediate action to help her. I also told her that she hasn't ate or drank anything in the past two days and they did nothing. No Ivs to renourish her nothing. She was clearly dehydrated due to the heat this week. But they didn't care. All they wanted is money they took exrays of her and a catogram I believe (scan of the lungs). I heard nova crying in the room with them as they were laughing. She came back with a little blood it looked like on a towel they had drained a little bit of the fluid in the abscess to see what it was. But all that did was make it bigger. They prescribed antibiotics for me to take home. They never said that she was in immediate danger. She died in my arms that night, there was nothing I could do I tried giving her CPR for a half an hour. The nearest vet was an hour and a half away and I was too late. I went In the next day obviously furious, the receptionist brought out the practice manager whatever that is. She brought me to a back room away from clients so they wouldn't know how poor of a job they did. I told told her everything that transpired the day prior. And told her that the doc had failed her. She proceeded to say and argue with me that it was not their fault and it wasn't their problem. " She could of died from something else, not related to the injury" No I'm pretty sure I knew if my cat was healthy or not before the incident you dumb fuck. She then proceeded to say you know this how "because of your vet degree" No sympathy at all for nova or accountability PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY AND THATS IT.
