1/2 Rosa's Special w/chicken
Patrick L.

I had driven by this place so many times over the years and always wondered about it. I've always had a soft spot for hole in the wall Mexican spots. They take me right back to growing up in San Jose, where my all time favorite was a long running family place that really set the bar. After a Sunday visit to the South Coast Botanic Garden, we decided to finally stop in for lunch. We parked in the back and walked in early afternoon. First impression, I loved the vibe. Murals on the walls, heavy furniture, that lived in feel. Exactly my kind of place. The young woman who greeted us was warm and welcoming, which always sets the tone. Chips and salsa came out quickly, and both were solid. The salsa had great flavor and just the right kick. I ordered the half Rosa's Special, which was around 16 to 17 dollars. Here is where I have to be honest. It was good, but it felt like it was missing a little something in flavor. And while the plate looked big at first glance, the portion ended up feeling pretty average. For comparison, my local diner Snax serves a massive wet burrito for about the same price, with twice the portion and more punch in flavor. That said, Rosa's is going for a different kind of experience. What really stood out to me was the atmosphere. It genuinely transported me back to those San Jose Mexican spots I grew up loving. That alone makes me want to come back and give it another shot. Maybe I will try the tacos dorados next time. Bonus, they have albondigas, and it is pretty good. Four stars for now. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are chasing that old school vibe.

Susi Special with Beef

What a cute authentic place for homey Mexican food. I had been here once before and forgot to Yelp it. It was unbelieveably open on Christmas Eve after our last minute change in plans. Knowing this, I didn't want them to make it harder for this family run place to stay open but they were so welcoming. Service was great. Food was too. I ordered the Susi Special with Beef! Parking in the rear lot. Will be back again!

Taco Burrito and churros, delivered by DoorDash
Niks O.

I've been seeing this place pop up on DoorDash and since it had good reviews on Yelp, decided to finally try it. Unfortunately, the taco burrito was SO BLAND - the rice, the shredded beef. It actually tasted like everything was from a can or bag (even the shredded lettuce) and had no seasoning. The churros were good. I love to support a small business, but sadly would not order from here again.

Before and after Saturday brunch :) delish!

Loved our experience here! The vibe is super nice and the server Alex gave us great service from start to finish. The fish tacos were delicious definitely a good recommendation. Will be coming back!

This place is a rip off! Sauce is canned & the asada portions in the wet burrito is a joke! Don't waste your money here.

Me and my good friend came in on a Monday because I wanted some elote! It happened to be happy hour…read moreso why not! The food is so good! The chips and salsa, the elote, the ceviche were spectacular! The salsas are so tasty! The elote hit the spot! And the ceviche was a large portion which was perfect to share! The tacos were very good! One thing I would change is their tortilla, but the carne asada was tender and well flavored! The fish taco could've used some crema. The service here is some of the best I've experienced. As someone in hospitality, Arturo deserves all the flowers! So kind and friendly! On point! The space has a nice outdoor patio that has covering for shade. We will definitely come back!

While the ambiance isn't over-the-top, it's clean, comfortable, and inviting definitely grab a table on the patio if you can. Parking: They have a dedicated lot on-site. It's a bit tight, but having dedicated parking is still a huge plus. To Start: They kick off the meal with complimentary chips paired with three distinct salsas: a rich red salsa with a good kick, a bright salsa verde, and a fresh pico de gallo. Every single one was full of flavor. The Main Course: Veracruz Fish: Hands down the star of the night. The white fish was cooked to absolute perfection and paired seamlessly with sautéed vegetables, rice, and beans. A must-order, Chicken Enchiladas: Exceptionally flavorful with well-seasoned, juicy chicken. A special shoutout goes to the rice and beans--they easily hold their own as standalone stars on the plate. Chile Relleno: Well-prepared and tasty. While it wasn't my personal favorite of the night, it's a solid choice if you love traditional rellenos. Shrimp Cocktail: Generously portioned with plenty of fresh shrimp and avocado, though the sauce base wasn't quite to my personal taste. All in all, Maderos is a true gem delivering vibrant, authentic Mexican cuisine. We will definitely be back!

They used to let you pick from more choices years ago but free is free right? I chose the number 4 which is a tamale with beans and rice. My wife ordered their chicken tortilla soup which has been a longtime favorite. The size of the bowl has diminished about 30% from what I remember but that's been a common theme the past few years in many places so oh well. We also ordered a side of chicken taquitos which came with a generous amount of sour cream and guacamole. The food was very good overall although the chunks of beef in my tamale were dry. I prefer chicken but unfortunately they were out. I should have asked for pork but didn't think about it till later. Our server was very helpful and just a sweet, thoughtful young lady. The gentleman bussing tables was also friendly and considerate. Prices have definitely gone up but those are the times in which we live. There is street parking and an underground parking garage a short distance away. There are quite a few restaurants in the area so parking can be a little challenging. With so many new restaurants in downtown Torrance, La Capilla may no longer be at the pinnacle of food choices but for longtime South Bay residents, it would be sad to see it go. It's nice to have places that bring back memories of wonderful times gone by.

However I think what kept everyone there was the pitchers of margaritas, and the specials on the wall to the left when you walked in. My dad lived for those. LETS TALK ABOUT NOW': HORRIBLE DOESN'T DO JUSTICE. The chicken taco fell completely apart, and was freezing cold. The burrito had no flavor, there was none in the sauce or the meat or anything. The rice made you want to gag, I don't think a stray dog would eat it. Lastly my meal, enchiladas. I mean, come on how do you eff that up?! The cheese wasn't melted, the tortilla was raw and needed to be heated (or fried) Either way save your money, and take the drive up to another well known spot.

I have been seeing them on my feed but for some reason haven't stopped in yet. As a solo diner I felt pleasantly welcomed as I walked it. The sweet gal behind the counter was very friendly and engaging when I asked her questions seeing it was my first time here. I chose the two taco combo, carne asada was my meat of choice. The two other options were shrimp and chicken. The combo comes with chips and a drink along with my choice of salsa. I have to tell you I was pretty impressed with my tacos. They were loaded with meat; which was really tasty. They had cilantro and onion and avocado. The chips were fresh and also very good. I liked the salsa as well. The two gals working the counter and who brought my food were so sweet. She even came back to ask if I needed anything and gave me extra salsa. After waiting about 10 minutes, I went to the counter, and it took even longer before an employee asked for my name. It turned out my order had been sitting there for over 20 minutes while takeout orders were being prioritized. When they finally handed me my food, it was still in a bag even though my order was for dine-in, and I had to remind them to give me my drinks. They also forgot to include salsa for the chips. What really frustrated me was being told that next time I should just go to the counter after ordering at the kiosk. As a first-time customer, how was I supposed to know that? If the kiosk orders aren't being monitored, that's something the restaurant should address--not something customers should have to figure out on their own. After this experience, there won't be a next time.
