This is basically our getaway when the mood moves us. As far as safety, agree with most reviews, don't do anything dumb (ahh I wish I could say more, but I won't) stay in the paid highways, don't go where your not familiar & night time with caution. We never travel at night. It's all about the food, beaches, resorts, bars for the youngsters & so much more too much to list. Visit if you're not fearful. Lol someone once told me that Olvera Street and Old San Diego was enough for them and there was no need to go here. You can not compare those two areas to this or anywhere Baja. You simply are not experiencing it.

This is a beach town about 20 min past the Tijuana border. Because this town is so close to the border it is very commercialized and popular with tourist for the beaches/surfing/resorts. You can find a Walmart, Starbucks, Smart and Final just to name a few US stores (hence the commercialized part) There are UBER drivers but no LYFT drivers. Tons of street vendors selling anything from Tamales and atole, to huaraches and knick knacks. You can ride horses and or camels LOL Go ATV riding The beaches are are awesome, the white sand is soothing to your feet. The coastline has amazing views. We stayed at an Airbnb, I could hear the waves hitting the sand. So tranquil and relaxing. If you want to party, there are plenty of bars and clubs available. Like most things in life its what you make of it

I love to drive down to Rosarito Beach and the neighboring fishing village of Popotla, just south of town. There, you will find store after store of fun ceramics to bring back to your house and garden. In fact, the ceramic pumpkins and pottery on my front entranceway to my house to greet the kids tonight who will be trick-or treating at Halloween are all from these very shops.

For those folks that have never set foot in Baja, Rosarito is the small town that sits just 15 minutes south of Tijuana. Accessed via highway 1, it has many great bars and restaurants sitting on the beachfront. As a beach city kid, I love coming here. My personal favorite place is Papas and Beer, which has a sizable seating area overlooking the coastline. The main avenue sits a few blocks east of the coast, and has many small restaurants and coffee shops. I recommend exploring these places, as many boast good food and even better coffee. You'd be surprise at what you'd find. Nighttime, there is a good party scene here as well. The bars here are known to be open into the early morning (4 AM). In my experience, you'll run into more tourists than locals, but you'll get a few people coming in from TJ and Ensenada as well. Contrary to what the news networks say back home, Baja is not that dangerous. It all depends on how you carry yourself. Just don't do anything dumb and don't mess with people, and you'll be fine.

This was a fun event (Tequila Expo) we made the stop before venturing to Puerto Nuevo and then to Ensenada! It was the May 2019 weekend as we went to Mexico for a birthday celebration. Drinks were strong and then ended up with some mixed drinks and they were great as they are not shy with tajin! We didn't stay long and ventured around La Playas after We got our drinks and then walked around the shops for souvenirs and then we went horseback riding down the beach... the only downfall is my poor horse got beat because he had a mind of his own and didn't want to stay with the pack which could've been my fault in pulling the wrong way I felt so bad. Our birthday girl ended up taking the tequila infused snake shot! See pics!

Rosarito has an INDELIBLE CHARM to it! Particularly the beaches. There's a CONSTANT STREAM OF VENDORS who come by and ask whether you want your hair braided, or purchase an embroidered bracelet with your name, or purchase 2 beers for $7 at the local bar for the privilege of sitting at one of the umbrellaed tables. If you think that's all charming, then all the power to you! However, it can also be just downright ANNOYING! As we approached the beach, there were local bars like Papas & Beers that were just blasting music on an afternoon where there were no young partygoers in sight. We crossed all the lined tables and chairs and were able to purchase freshly made churros on the beach. Now the churros were delicious! There were carts selling coconut drinks and other fruits lined along the beach, where we purchased one for $5 and were permitted to sit at the plastic umbrellaed tables for 20 minutes. Nothing like enjoying a fresh coconut drink on a peaceful beach by yourself and... WAIT! Another vendor just interrupted the mood! There's GOOD FOOD throughout too! The tacos nearby were EXCELLENT! As we walked past the shops on the streets, the vendors tried to coax us into their shops. Unfortunately, their method needs a lot of refining because they made some assumptions of our ethnicity and started speaking basic greetings in non-English/Spanish foreign languages. The MICROAGGRESSIONS actually felt ingratiating. So yeah, its uniqueness has a bit of charm to it! If you can ignore the annoyances, Rosarito might be worth returning! MAYBE.

Kind of dirty, and lots of speculation about safety. Rosarito is definitely and upgrade from Tijuana (total dump). With the right touch, maybe some accurate business directories, and adequate street naming conventions, and this town can be an amazing place to visit or live in. The sunsets are super romantic, colorful, and wonderful =)

A jewel! I love this place. Small beach town vibe that makes you feel like you're in a different country, but still 30 minutes from the border. Great tacos and great beach. You can opt for the busy beach bday experience with people selling thier wares, or walk ten minutes down the beach and enjoy only the soundsof the waves hiding the shore! Dogs allowed and alcohol in non-glass containers! Heaven!

Careful if you get in the water! Your stuff is more valuable to them than to you if so. Had our slippers stolen but that was mainly our fault! Happened so fast but we guess they needed/ wanted it more than us. This place is packed with locals and tourists. You can sit on the beach and have churros, fruit cups, candy and all that! Just sit and people watch or get in the water just make sure you don't leave your things unattended!!

And let me tell you! 10 bucks per michelada and 40 bucks for plate with a small lobster and about 8 shrimps. It's hard to swallow driving 3 plus hours just to pay pretty much same prices from a decent restaurant on this side of the border.

We drive right on in unless it is too packed with cars. Don't know till you go. It is a small fishing village where locals sell their daily catch right from the coolers and trading/bartering is in order. You definitely need to speak Spanish for this. I have actually brought large, fishing type coolers here to trade for freshly caught fish or even several dozen tamales. Yes tamales too! Also a handful of older restaurants boast ocean views with fresh seafood. We prefer to drive down to the beach in my Subaru and eat right there. We went to Sarita's and it was fantastic fresh seafood. The huge pig on the beach was unexpectedly cool! Eating all the good seafood scraps I'm sure. An unverified rumor from a construction guy that worked at my house mentioned he knows someone that says the sewage outfall drain pipe down in the area is not far offshore from here. I cannot confirm this and it won't deter me from coming back at all.

We were in a one bedroom with a full kitchen and daily maid service. The beds were comfortable. Not too hard. I love a firm yet not "European" firm mattress. There was a safe and a gas fireplace too. We were quite pleased with everything. We flew into San Diego then took an Uber to the border. Walked across the border, then took a taxi to the condo. We tried to get an uber but there must have been a cellphone reducer in the area. We had great service as we crossed the border but when we were at the corner with all the taxis, we couldn't get service. After haggling, we paid $30. (Uber was $20 but no biggie.) We didn't order a return pickup as suggested on the review sites since we didn't get an Uber. It wasn't necessary as there were cabs EVERYWHERE in Rosarita. And we could call for an Uber which was cheaper. We found out later that Ubers are banned in Rosarita but they are still there if you call. Either way, get a price before you get in. It is only a mile to town so we walked mostly but a taxi was only a couple dollars. They took USD as well as pesos. We didn't need to exchange much but you need small bills. No one can give you change in USD. The office exchanged some for us just so we were more comfortable, but we really didn't use much. If you did the math, you could save a few cents here and there if you use pesos vs USD at restaurants, etc. But if you use your visa, accepted in many places, make sure you tell them to use pesos (do not convert to US) otherwise you will end up paying more. Also use a card that doesn't charge you international exchange fees. There's a grocery store across the street next to the gas station that had pretty much everything we needed to eat at home for breakfasts and lunch plus beer, wine and coffee. The driveway is actually an offramp from the highway and heavily used to get onto the Free Road, so watch how and where you cross the road. Our concierge gave us a name of a taxi driver who took us to the wine route in Valle de Guadalupe. Jorge Diaz cell: 661 138 03312. He was awesome and reasonably priced. We chose the wineries but he normally chooses them if you don't have a preference. (Some wineries will not take you without reservations and some are closed on different days, so do your research and emails or call in advance if you want to choose your wineries.) I love to research, so I picked our breakfast place as well as the wineries and did the timing and directions. I just handed him a map with it marked off. That is important as you can loose GPS out there. The town is full of awesome taco places. Best Meat Taco: Tacos El Yaqui - Calle Mar del Norte, Rosarito, Mexico 50 Pesos for each Taco. Tacos Perrones come standard with beef, pinto beans, salsa), onions, cilantro and guac. But you can customized by asking to add or leave something such as peppers, radishes, etc. Long lines but AMAZING!!! Get a beer at the Mercado on the corner and meet the people you are in line with. We met a nice man the first time we went who gave us a bunch of tips about Rosarito. Best Fish tacos: El Taco Loco - Boulevard B. Juárez 97 Col. Rancho Chula Vista 22710 Rosarito We had the octopus tacos, the fish, and the spicy shrimp tacos. All amazing.!!! The salsas were hot and yummy too! Go to Mercado Del Mar to do a Tequila tasting. We learned so much about the differences between tequila styles. I had no idea. Located on the Free Road at Kilometer 29.5, look for the bicycle mounted on the highway divider. Almost directly across is the Mercado del Mar. Head into the market and then go to your left. Once inside, you'll find another large room with a massive selection of Baja California wines, different liquors, and 350(?) types of tequila. there are over 1,000 different types of liquor in the store. We took an uber there (a few kilometers south from the condo) on our way to Puerto Nuevo (Lobster Village) for cheap YUMMY lobster and delicious margaritas. That was another amazing experience. We chose El Guero from local suggestions. WOW. But first we looked at ocean view options. We ended up going to a place with delicious margaritas on the deck by ourselves... Well, there were gaviotas... We ordered a pitcher as the waiter told us it was the same price as two margaritas but my husband got an extra. It was a bit up, maybe midtown? I tried to find it but with covid... Maybe it is gone? My check in is gone as well or maybe it was the margarita... Cerveceria Tinta Negra was our go to place to try new Mexican beers. I love IPAs and many are doing an awesome job with them. We went to town via the beach (stairways use your card) and via the street. If you go via the beach know that you will have to wade through one stream of water. One day it wasn't bad, another it was pretty intense. Take off your shoes and bring a towel, lol.
