I read every 1 star review and they are so SILLY! People are so impatient and seem to lack any sense of GRACE so quick to blame others for their own problems.. Here are a couple reasons for my love: They carry Mary's Chicken, and on a recent visit, I was able to stock up on half price whole birds as they were marked down. They still had several days before the "use by" date, and I just stuck them in the freezer. Score! In fact, their clearance overall is great! This location has shelving along the back wall for bath and body, vitamin, and pantry/dry goods, as well as a portion in the refrigerated section. Most reduced products are at least half price, and always still usable, though may need to be consumed within a few days. NG is one of only a few local spots to carry Cucina coconut yogurt, basically not-too-sweet (vegan!) panna cotta in the most beautiful packaging. And it tastes just as beautiful as it looks! They have every variety of Honey Mama bars, one of my favorite "healthy" sources of chocolate. Along those same lines, their candy selection is unexpectedly varied, even featuring local makers like Solstice, Chocolate Conspiracy, and Amano. I dig Unreal's coconut treats and JoJo's chocolate bars, too! Produce, while limited, often features specialty or rare offerings like mandarinquats, meyer lemons, dried mushrooms, and more. They sell Portland Bee Balm, the most moisturizing and cute wood-wrapped lip balm in all the land (and the rose flavor is heavenly!) Employees are super friendly and very sweet. Prices are in league with other health food stores, though some items are lower than anywhere else! As I said, it's a surprising spot. I encourage you to spend at least twenty minutes just wandering about without anything specific in mind. I think you will be pleased!

Now, that's not what Natural Grocers is about. As the name indicates, it's a grocery store that focuses on natural products, eschews the chemical-laden processed foods, and dials in on natural, organic, and more recognizable forms of food. But it's also good for the soul. I read a few books many years ago that changed the way I eat, and over the last several years I've endeavored to eat more cleanly. I do like me a good treat, but I've cut out a lot of excess carbs (but won't say no to a great baked good) and a lot of sugars (but let's not get crazy, see also: ice cream) and had a lot more focus on ingredients. I love to cook, and bake, and have become more picky about what ingredients I use. So when a place like this makes it easier for me to find good ingredients, I'm pretty stoked. And they go it all in abbreviated grocery store format. There are frozen/fridge goods that they have packed from bulk, cold drinks, lots of kinds of flours, home and household goods, and fresh produce, to name a few. In the back is an entire section filled with supplements, powders, pills, and stuff that I don't fully get into but if you do, you'll appreciate it. There's a also a small section of books, mainly about health and cooking. There was a small clearance section in the back on several shelving unites against the wall and the deals were pretty good. I also like that they have a classroom upstairs with a kitchen. They host classes from time to time, and you can probably fit 30 people in there. Parking was easy for me, but it's a small lot and on normal hours I think it probably gets jammed up. But if you live in the area and want those non-GMO, lesser-chemicaled, solid ingredients, it's a good option.
