We have used Oakwood Roots for over a year for our teen and have had such a wonderful experience. The office itself has an inviting and comfortable energy. The counselors are amazing - I feel that my child's counselor is genuinely invested in her wellbeing and sincerely cares about what happens after we leave the office. Communication is excellent. Often we seek counseling in times of vulnerability which makes feeling safe and heard really important. Oakwood has been an invaluable resource for our family and a practice that I wholeheartedly recommend if you're seeking mental health support. read more

Feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or just not quite yourself lately? Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, life transitions, or trauma, Roots Psychotherapy is a space where you don’t have to pretend. You can show up exactly as you are—mess and all. Our clients often tell us they’ve spent years feeling like no one really gets it until they land here. If you’re looking for a space that’s compassionate, honest, and genuinely interested in your story, you’re in the right place. At Roots, we believe therapy should be more than just managing symptoms. We’re here for the deeper work—the kind that leads to real clarity, sturdy self-trust, and meaningful change. Our clinicians are trained in relational and psychodynamic therapy, but we also offer EMDR, trauma-informed care, play therapy, and support for kids, teens, adults, couples, and families. Whether you’re a college student feeling lost, a parent needing support, or a couple looking to reconnect, we’ll meet you where you are with warmth and curiosity. Roots is a locally owned group practice in College Station, TX with a team of 15+ inclusive, down-to-earth therapists. We offer both in-person and virtual sessions, respond within one day of your inquiry, and can usually get you scheduled within a week. Our space is warm, lived-in, and intentionally non-corporate. Just real humans doing real healing work together.

History

Established in 2018.

Roots Psychotherapy began in 2018 as part of Oakwood Counseling in Bryan, TX, growing out of a need for honest, inclusive, depth-oriented therapy in the Brazos Valley. As our identity and approach became more distinct—relational, trauma-informed, and rooted in authenticity—we rebranded as Roots Psychotherapy to reflect the work we were already doing. Since then, we’ve grown into a thriving group practice in College Station with 15+ clinicians offering therapy for individuals, couples, families, teens, and kids. Our work is guided by core values: honesty and kindness, continued growth, curiosity about difference, and helping clients become sturdier and more fully themselves. We believe therapy should be a space where you can bring the mess and still be met with warmth, clarity, and real support. Whether you’re here for anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, or relationship struggles, we’ll meet you where you are—and walk with you toward something more grounded.

Meet the Business Owner: Jeremy D.

I had moved to BCS after spending the first years of my career in a robust learning community in a larger city, and Roots came from a desire to build a sustainable practice that prioritizes the growth and well-being of its clinicians. I think this directly impacts the level of care we can then offer to our clients. We have a really delightful group of clinicians who are deeply invested in their own growth on your behalf.
