The counselors are amazing - I feel that my child's counselor is genuinely invested in her wellbeing and sincerely cares about what happens after we leave the office. Communication is excellent. Often we seek counseling in times of vulnerability which makes feeling safe and heard really important. Oakwood has been an invaluable resource for our family and a practice that I wholeheartedly recommend if you're seeking mental health support.

Including the other parent refusing treatment for my child's severe mental health episodes. She encouraged my then teenager from spending time in our home. This occurred while i was very ill and immune compromised early in the pandemic, and she repeatedly insisted that i and my child be face to face, because telehealth was not good enough. It took years to rebuild my relationship with my child. Thankfully, my now young adult child has realized visits with Melinda are a waste of time

Maybe it just wasn't a good fit so I'm trying not to be too harsh. She's a sweet lady, but not very professional or effective at her job. First off, she did not even attempt to get detailed background information, establish trust, or form a working relationship which is vital to effective treatment. Secondly, and most detrimental was that she literally just read out of a book the ENTIRE session. She read it word for word as of she was reading me a story. She did not allow me to speak hardly at all during the session (isn't that kindof the point of therapy?) I definitely do not recommend this couselor. You're better off buying a book on anxiety/depression/whatever and reading that...it's way cheaper and practically the same thing you'll get if you go to this counselor.
