I want to start by saying that I am very happy with my primary care provider, Kim Schauer. My…read moreconcerns are specifically about some interactions I have had with front office/medical assistant staff at the Mathiesen Jamestown clinic. A couple of staff members have been dismissive and unkind toward me. I had an issue involving communication between my physical therapist and Mathiesen regarding a possible MRI. At my initial appointment with my physical therapist. He told me that he would be sending my primary care provider a recommendation for an MRI and I was instructed me to follow up with my primary care office the following week. I called Mathiesen the next week and was told that nothing had been received from my physical therapist. I then contacted my PT's office and was told that the paperwork had been sent and had been signed and returned by my doctor. I also confirmed that the evaluation and plan of care specifically recommended an MRI. The woman I spoke with at the PT office contacted Mathiesen herself to try to determine what had happened. She later called me back and explained that she had left a voicemail and tried calling again but had been unable to get through. She also faxed the paperwork again to make sure it reached the clinic. I then called Mathiesen, explained what I had learned in a voicemail and  requested a callback. The next day I called the clinic again. I began explaining what had happened the previous day when the woman answering the phone interrupted me in an irritated tone and said, "When? When did they send the request?" I calmly explained that I wasn't finished explaining the situation and that the paperwork had previously been faxed but had been sent again the day before because I did not know the exact date of the original fax. She told me to hold while she checked to see if anything had been received. A second woman answered and was polite. She said only one person receives those faxes and then transferred me to another staff member who said she was with my doctor's medical assistant. I was told that the office had already done what they needed to do. When I asked for clarification and specifically asked whether a referral or recommendation for an MRI had been received, I was told that there was no MRI recommendation and that I would need to complete six months of physical therapy or be discharged with notes. I asked for clarification because this was different from what my physical therapist had told me. The medical assistant then spoke with me and again stated that there was no MRI recommendation and that they needed documentation recommending an MRI or I would have to complete six months of PT. The tone of the conversation with the medical assistant felt dismissive and, to me, almost mocking or placating. I thanked her and ended the call. I immediately contacted my physical therapist's office again. The same staff member I had spoken with the day before told me that the evaluation and plan of care clearly did recommend an MRI. She offered to try contacting Mathiesen again on my behalf and also allowed me to get a copy of my evaluation/plan of treatment. When picking up plan of treatment the staff member told me that she had spoken with Mathiesen and that she was told the doctor may not have read that portion of the evaluation/plan of care and that the clinic did not have a copy available to them to see what it said. I understand that communication errors happen. I also work in case management, so I understand that clients sometimes misunderstand what has been requested or what a provider is able to do. My concern is how the situation was handled and how quickly I was dismissed without the underlying documentation being checked. If there is a question about what a physical therapist recommended, I believe the appropriate response is to look into the documentation before telling a patient that the recommendation does not exist. If the clinic does not have access to the document, staff could also document the patient's concern and communicate it to the medical provider for clarification. Not everyone I spoke with at Mathiesen was rude. My concern is specifically with the staff members whose irritated and dismissive tones made an already frustrating situation more difficult. I am sharing this review because I hope the clinic will look at how patient concerns are handled at the front desk and by support staff. Patients should be able to ask questions and seek clarification about their care without being treated like they are an inconvenience or as though they don't know what they are talking about.

The most recent incident involved my daughter, and despite contacting the emergency line twice, we did not receive a return call from their office. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that the hospital will submit a claim to my insurance provider for services that were not rendered. My daughter's condition has not improved since our visit to the hospital. Furthermore, the emergency room physician consulted his personal device and requested permission to photograph the injury for research purposes. This level of care is concerning, as I could have independently sought information and a potential diagnosis, for example, through an AI-powered conversational agent, which proved to be more comprehensive and empathetic in its response. For future eye-related concerns, I recommend considering Jackson.

I told him I had slipped and hurt my wrist. He set up X-ray to be done immediately for me. Went straight to hospital and had X-ray done. She has seen him twice. Once in Nov 19 and once in Jan 20. She recently had a baby in March of 19. She went to see him for severe back pain in November, and he fat shamed her. Did not order any xrays. He told her that she needs to lose weight. He even mentioned that she should watch the Bikini Body Workout. He was so unprofessional. He told her that he and his wife run two successful businesses and both work out, and if they can do it, that she doesn't have any excuse. She went again to see him in January of 2020 to help her with her back pain. Again with the fat shaming and doing absolutely nothing to figure out what the cause of the pain is. This last weekend, Feb 15, 2020, Saturday, she awoke with severe back pain again and vomiting. This time the pain was on her lower left side and radiating around to her back. I watched her baby so she could drive herself to the ER at Sutter in Jackson. She couldn't even stand upright when she arrived. The doctor there immediately ordered a CT scan. They also performed an ultrasound. They discovered that she had a 8.2cm tumor on her left ovary. That is 3.2 inches. They told me that she had an Ovarian Torsion and had to perform emergency surgery that day! After the surgery, I was told that this cyst had burst and she had internal bleeding. She had ligaments twisted around her ovary. She had surgery and had to have her left ovary and her fallopian tube removed. If this Dr. Patterson would have gotten past his condescending attiutde and had some compassion and behaved like a DOCTOR, he would have ordered TESTS to find the source of her pain. Instead of treating her like she was shopping for pain meds! What happened to the Hippocratic Oath of FIRST DO NO HARM? This doctor should never be allowed to treat patients. How did he even get his medical license? When I called his office this morning, the receptionist didn't even want to hear my complaint and referred me to "Administration". Oh sweetheart, I am going to talk to your Administration and I am ALSO reporting him to the AMA.
