I had our septic system overflow into bathtub, while I was in there! I can't even begin to tell you how awful that was, and having major surgery two weeks before, I moved quicker than I ever had. Freaked out with everything overflowing in my bathroom, I tried calling a few locals and was told nobody could get out till neck week?! ‍ So I called Rooter Man and Ryan was out within hour and thirty minutes. Ryan unclogged the line and returned following day, to pump and assess our problem. Which there is a problem broken line, roots and he could not access our leach line tank due to the cover condition. These guys came out to clear a clog in our sewer and were really great - came quickly, professional, the works. Jesse was a star, and fished a safety cap out of the line with some pretty specialized equipment. The reason for the two stars is purely their obscene pricing - they have you over a barrel and seem to know it. It took them about two hours total and they charged about $4,000. That's $2k an hour - which is as close to unethical as you can get. They know you have no choice so charge an arm and a leg simply because they can. Pure highway robbery. Most plumbers are in the $200/hour range - one tenth of that. A surcharge for the special equipment and talent needed to use it on top is appropriate, but $2k an hour is close to extortion - even as grateful as I am they were able to fix it. I did not have a good experience with Rooter Man of Tahoe/Truckee. A family member reported a sewage backup at our vacation home in Incline Village. I contacted Rooter Man based on the positive reviews and requested a sewer line inspection with the ultimate goal, of course, of having the line cleared. On March 4, 2025 plumbing technician Jesse R. sent me an invoice for $625 to be paid before he would scope the line. The invoice also included an extra 3% charge for the credit card because billing after the fact was not an option. Jesse later reported video showed a break in the line along with a large number of root intrusions. He then sent an invoice for an additional $2700 to bring in a chain machine to clear the roots and assess the damage. To be clear, this was not a quote to REPAIR the line- it was just to clear the line enough to determine what would be necessary to fix it. Obviously the charges would continue piling up. I asked Jesse to send me the video so I could make my own assessment and seek a second opinion. He said "we don't do that." What??? The invoice actually has a placeholder for video, but they don't record the video? Or maybe they record the video but they just don't share it with the customer? The home is in an HOA and because the blockage occurred in a common area I contacted the Reno-based management company to see if they would send out a plumber they use. Their plumber made a site visit to determine the location of the blockage then returned a couple of days later to hydro flush the line. That same day I received the following message from the HOA management company: "Jet Plumbing completed the work! They will send the camera footage. There was a large root ball causing the issue, but they cleared it and the line looks great now." Total cost to the HOA was $825. I'm out of pocket $643 because I should have called the HOA before I called Rooter Man. But clearly it could have been much worse! read more

They know you're desperate to unclog. Most places in Tahoe are in short supply of good plumbers. Adding camera service and to do extra work was $1000 after $200 just to show up. Was done in less than 3 hours. That's over $400 an hour. They make more money than lawyers. Once they are done, your pipes are clear, your wallet is empty, can't feed the family, no more pooping. They really know how to permanently fix any future clogs. read more

Got price gouged on service at our home in Truckee a couple years ago. Spent 3k to have the tank serviced. My bad for not doing a better job researching other companies. Needed help at a home I manage on Donner Lake a few weeks ago and they wanted to charge us about 50% more then what their competitors were offering and said we needed to to the work ASAP which was BS. If you need septic work, stay away from these guys and go with A-1 Testing. read more

These guys are my go-to guys for any plumbing issue that comes up. I have used them many times and for good reason. Most recently Kevin came out to assist with a clog issue which ended up being a lot more complex of an issue than anticipated. I was expecting maybe a day or two wait for them to come out but he was at our property in well under an hour after placing the call. Kevin took the time to identify the root cause of the problem as opposed to just doing a quick fix that would have only temporarily fixed the issue. He communicated well during the entire process and made sure I understood what he was doing and why. He went above and beyond to ensure the issue was completely resolved and worked into the evening hours to make sure it was done correctly. He helped identify some key access locations so that I had that information for future needs. These guys are a customer first organization and there is nobody else who will provide as good as a service as these guys. Just want to caution everyone in the community about "RooterMan Plumbing". Our sewer pump system alert/alarm went off the other night, so I called them to come out and take a look. They said they would send someone out. They insisted on charging me $231.75 upfront when I initially called to make the service request. The service guy didn't show at the designated time. I was unable to reach anyone when I repeatedly called to find out if and when he was going to come. I finally reached them and he finally showed about 2 hours later. He was rude and unprofessional. He spent around 5-10 minutes max at our home, took one look at the system in our basement and said "it probably just needs to be pumped out and cleaned". I said "fine, please go ahead and do it". He said he couldn't do it right then and there, but would need to schedule that service at a different visit. I said "So, if you're not doing anything to fix the problem, why did your company charge me almost $250?". He said "that's our 'show up fee'". I said "show up and do what??". He had no answer. The charge hit my VISA statement today. I contacted the company and asked them to address the issue directly with me several days ago. I've still heard nothing back from them. Since I've been unable to get any response from them, it appears that this is some sort of scam. Beware of "Rooterman Plumbing" here in Truckee. read more

Do NOT hire. I had a clogged toilet in Truckee. Once they came, they called and told me their show up fee was $525!!! and that I had agreed on that (which they never mentioned) for them to do the repair. I was on a phone call with him during this time and my daughter got hurt and I was tending to her during our phone call, he kept yelling me to pay him and sign the contract, despite me already asking why the estimate was so high. He just kept yelling at me telling me he needed the contract signed or he'd leave. After 20 minutes in our condo, he snaked the toilet, did not retrieve anything, told me there was something stuck, and options were to dismantle the toilet outside which would cost more or replace the whole toilet." Expensive, poor communication, appalling customer service, misleading pricing, unskilled work. Dispatcher confirmed they could repair or replace the water heater Sunday but that it would cost extra because of it being after hours & that I would receive a call when they were on their way. I checked several hours later, he said that I told them not to come because they couldn't get parts on a weekend. I tried to say that must have been someone else he argued trying to convince me that I told them not to come. I ended up restarting the clock on my emergency repair at 1 in the afternoon. I should have moved on at this point. May my massive error be a warning to you. The next day I called 30 min after I was told I'd hear from them to try to get a sense of when they might be able to come, so that I could figure out my workday. This time the dispatcher went off on me, my request for even a broad window was met with nasty remarks, he yelled at me for several minutes because I had the nerve to attempt to get clarification. I would try to explain my question and get cut off with more nasty comments. I have worked with a LOT of contractors/tradespeople I always treat them with respect, including in this instance. I am absolutely disgusted by the treatment I received, it was unprofessional & utterly appalling. I only moved forward because it was an emergency and I was already so far into the process that starting over felt impossible. That was a huge mistake, I wish I had gotten refunded right then and there and worked with a different company. The technician didn't do a very good job either. He wasn't considerate about the home or the people inside it, (turned off the water without giving the chance for anyone to do anything - with a toddler not having water for several hours coulda used a heads up), wouldn't move what he needed inside so we could close the garage, ripping down construction plastic instead of masking it out of the way, leaving gates and doors open, not putting things he used back where he got them from, he damaged the new water heater pan when installing it because he couldn't lift it properly by himself, and it is seated so close to the pan edge on one side that it makes it challenging to take the door off, and he left a mess in the driveway that I had to clean up (trash, machine screws etc). They trick you into paying more than they explain at every turn. An emergency call the show up fee of $175 is collected before they come and they don't tell you that doesn't include them even looking at the issue until after they arrive that costs another $289, they should be up front that the fee for an emergency is baseline $464 because if that is much for you you're out $175. They forced me to pay before the job was complete, despite being told the final payment would be collected after the job was finished. I was told that a second technician had to come out to check the work of the first technician before operating the water heater and that he would not come until payment was made. A non-operational unit that has not been appropriately checked is NOT a completed job. In fact the job wasn't completed properly by the first technician so the job really wasn't completed, the second technician found leaks that had to be fixed and the first technician had installed a CO2 detector improperly (way too close to the water heater). This job could have been completed properly in less time if they had utilized more than one or a more knowledgeable technician from the get go. Now they apparently need to be present for the inspection, (in case they need to fix or adjust anything) - you'd think that would also be part of the job right? Nope they claimed I was paying a permit fee but then tacked on (without telling me) an additional $322 for their time to attend the inspection which who knows if they even will. There are different sets of reviews online do not use any version of "Rooter Man" or "A Rooter Man" they are clearly trying to escape their bad reviews by presenting the company name in several different ways. I hired the Truckee one but it's based on Carson City. read more

Excellent customer service especially for the Tahoe area. We recently remodeled our place but one toliet started to leak. I couldn't get hold of our contractor(which is normal for Tahoe) and it was so close to the new year eve. I found Rooter Man plumbing on google and called them. To my surprise, they said that the could come the next day at 9am. For those who don't live in the tahoe area, people have no idea how difficult to get anything done. Some businesses either don't call you back or schedule visits weeks out. Later in the evening, my contractor called me back. Since the place is still under warranty, I texted Rooter Man plumbing to see if I could cancel their visit. Again to my surprise, they agreed without getting upset at me. Even though I didn't get to use their service but the experience has already exceeded my expectations. I am so happy that I found a reliable business in Tahoe and will be sure to call them the next time. read more

They charged my neighbors $4500 to unclog their pipes, only spent 5 hours at the house, and didn't complete the job! Then when we try to get a bill, receipt, or anything that shows what it is they even did at the house, they refuse to do anything and get angry with us. They were supposed to mark out the underground lines, provide a itemized quote for the work, and a quote for the new waste line to be installed. Instead they just told my poor neighbor it would be $15,000 to redo a line, with no details quote. That's on top of the $4500 as well, not included. Absolutely unprofessional and unreasonable people. Do NOT go with Rooter-Man Truckee. We had an issue in July and they were fine enough. They got someone out fairly quickly to deal with the Sump Pump. They dealt with the clogging and cleaning. It was thousands of dollars. We then paid more thousands of dollars for them to come at a later point and fix the actual issue. Our alarm went off yesterday evening. We called and it was a very frustrating conversation. They said that if we wanted to use the guarantee/warrantee from the work we would have to wait until Monday. We said fine, we will pay, send someone. We waited until 11:10 Sunday morning and called. And they said we hadn't want to pay the overtime. We said that we specially had. He interpreted something I said as super rude, and got on a very high horse and wouldn't even accept an apology (that I didn't even mean - I just wanted to move on). He had also been rude and difficult last night (Saturday early evening). Anyways - if you are looking for good customer service, never go with these guys. We are going with a different plumber and it will likely cost more since their will not be a warranty - but it will be worth it to never have to deal with these people again. read more

Paid nearly $1000 for guaranteed unclogging of our drain. They refused to go through toilet and went through a tiny drain in bathroom sink instead. They never finished the job, but kept the money anyway. We then paid another company half that and they unclogged by going through the toilet drain with no problems. Rooter man is a rip off. In addition to stealing from us, the manager/owner's son was the meanest and most unprofessional person we've ever done business with. We had a clog in our house plumbing in SLT and called for a plumber. They were able to get out quickly which was great. The first visit, they couldn't tell us what was wrong but auger'd the toilet and left, knowing it was still clogged, and charged us $175 for the service. They recommended they come back and take off the toilet to put a camera down since they couldn't find a clean out to assess the problem, and that they'd replace the toilet as well since it was off, thinking it was old and potentially troublesome, all for about $1k, but would credit half the initial service call if we did the service. We said we'd remove and replace ourself to save money so they could access. Up against the wall with guests checking in within 24hrs, we agreed to have them continue service for another $350 camera inspection after we removed the toilet, and they confirmed we had no clean out, and found the clog location. They found roots in the pipe. Now we're over $500 for essentially a snaked pipe with a camera, and about 30-60mins work. But we know what's wrong and the fix that's needed, which was good. The bad news, they wanted another $2600 to clip the line and install the clean out to fix it, and needed to dig down a foot or so under the deck (no snow) to access the pipe. This cost was shock, so I called around and talked to other plumbers in the area that mentioned this service was likely a $350-500 job, plus the $300 permit, which included the $65 in parts needed. We asked Rooterman to tell us the location of the clog, which I figured we paid for in the $500, but they refused to tell us, forcing us to use them or pay again for the diagnosis with another plumber. They knew we had guests coming in 3 hrs, and unfortunately, we couldn't find someone to come out on short notice, so we agreed to move forward knowing we were being charged through the nose. They did agree to come down a couple hundred bucks after some tough conversation which showed some compassion. So after over $3k, we got a cleanout installed and cleared the line (but they found another root as well for later). I will say they were very professional, sending pics of the job, good communication, and they got it done on a tight time constraint where nobody else could. I like to think they didn't take advantage of our desperation, but at those prices it's clear we paid a huge premium for roughly 3-4 hrs of work. If you have deep pockets and can afford it, these guys are great in the on quality and availability. read more

So thankful for Rooter-Man! Late last night we heard water leak sounds and discovered pipes were leaking underneath the house. The next morning we were put in a queue and Rooter-Man sent out Daniel in a very timely fashion. Daniel was quick to find the issue and resolved it in no time.
