Hot water pressure was suddenly low. Johnny quoted $295 to replace the angle stop that he said was leaking water under kitchen sink. Before authorizing the repair, I asked for the part and labor cost. He said they "don't price jobs this way", they only quote "by the job". I authorized, against my better judgement because he was already at my property and had diagnosed. Johnny called me back in 15 minutes to tell me it was completed. I called Danny when I received the bill. He said the part was $35, but Johnny stated it was $25 in the invoice. Go figure!! So $270 was for 15 minutes of labor to replace the angle stop. This was a total scam. I asked Danny if he could revise the charge. He told me that another plumber maybe could have provided me "a better discount". "Better?", I asked. What discount did Danny provide? Notta! I would not trust GPI and how they "charge by the job and do NOT disclose the cost of the part or labor up front." Johnny knew he could replace that part in about 10 minutes and still threw out the absurd cost of $295! Call any other plumber but not GPI! Johnny told me someone had turned down the hot water under the sink and that when he turned it back up, it leaked and needed this angle stop replaced. I never turned down the hot water under the sink because I didn't even know that I could. Now I highly doubt there was even a leak. I never noted any dripping under the sink! Danny claimed that Johnny was there longer at my home because he was trying to reach me by phone. But Danny gave Johnny the wrong number for me. Not my problem !! These guys are a joke! Called this company multiple times for over a week to work on clogged drain on my 5th wheel.after several messages danny the owner called back asked the problem and sent out a plumber to fix it. Plumber John snaked the pipes and punctured a hole in our water tank, John called his boss Danny then left. Spoke with owner Danny about this, Danny claimed to not work on 5th wheels or rv and has no insurance and not there problem...i would not use this company!!!!! read more

GPI plumbing helped us when we were selling our condo, arranged by a realtor. However, they have never come through with an emergency request. First time we called was winter on a holiday weekend. I figured it was because they are busy but on-call never even reached back out. Called today asking for someone to go check out a major leak as we are out of town. Again, no call back. GPI was great to work with. I had a leaking water heater (2 of them) and asked if they could come out for a free consultation on what to do. They came out, gave me some options, and helped me with tips on what to do when not at the house for an extended period of time. I decided to get a tank-less water heater through them. Called a week in advance for an appointment. Was given a day, but open window for time. They were a NO SHOW after we waited all day. After calling the following Monday, had to leave a message with the answering service, and have never received a call back. I've used GPI Plumbing three times and they have been great. I always get a quick return call and they have always been on time. That's two things that are hard to find in a contractor. I am not a full time resident in Truckee so having contractors that respond promptly to calls and arrive when scheduled are important to me. The first job came in under the estimate, again rare to find. The second job, after getting the estimate, I asked Danny (the owner) to replace 2 hose bibs. Not only did he do them at no extra cost, he also repaired a pressure relief valve on my water heater, for no extra charge, that he saw on his own that was bad . While my job was big (underground water supply line replacement) maybe there was enough profit to throw in the other stuff for free. I can with almost 100% confidence say if it were anyone else, there would have been an extra couple hundred added to the bill. The third time Chris came out and replaced an auto drain valve (a small screw on piece not the big one that has to be dug out.) He took the time to show me what failed and how I could replace it myself if it failed again. GPI is the best example of a "contractor" company I've dealt with. Quick call backs, on-time, reasonable prices and friendly. FYI, GPI has a 24-hour answering service that answers all calls regardless of the time or day of the week and forwards the calls, so the folks answering the phone are not with GPI. read more

A Thanksgiving Horror Tale I cannot recall or even imagine any business that is more confused and incompetent. We had a kitchen sink stoppage the day after Thanksgiving. Carmelo arrived, cleared the stoppage, supposedly put the sink back together, charged us $175, and left. Assuming the job was done correctly, we used the sink as if it had been. We discovered the sink was leaking the next morning with a sloppy, wet, mess under it soaking into the cabinet. We spoke to Denny (Danny?) who told us it would be cared for right away. Nobody ever showed up that day, not a phone call ... crickets ... more unreturned phone calls were made Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and message were left, but never returned. On Thursday, I called and actually talked to a person early in the day (I was amazed that there was actually a person to answer the phone). She said the message would be delivered and the problem would be cared for. Nobody returned the call or showed up. At 4:45, I called again asking when someone would care for this. The person who I talked to said there were no messages left from me. I told him that I would be disputing the credit card charge, and Denny/Danny called me in about 2 minutes promising it would be cared for asap. He said he "forgot". Today Friday, I left work early to get home to allow access for a service man, and made innumerable phone calls trying to find out when someone was going to arrive. Denny/Danny sent a text at 1 pm telling me he would have someone there soon. At 5 pm I sent a message to him asking him to define "soon". Denny/Danny said I had been confused with other customers (I cannot imagine what nightmares those poor, unwitting fools are enduring). And the most recent promise was made at 6:12 pm that John would be there within an hour. I have been totally neglected. It is now 7:30 pm and the sink still leaks without a word from John or Denny/Danny. 8 pm, John showed up and fixed the cross threaded plastic nut Carmelo had "screwed" up in about 10 minutes. I take back the incompetent comment when it comes to him. I wish he had his own company, and I would not hesitate to hire him in the least. 5 stars for John. So, if you don't mind waiting 7 DAYS to get a job done, call Denny/Danny, and if anyone actually answers the phone, make certain you request John and don't let Carmelo in the door. Even if Denny/Danny had the decency to offer to refund a portion of the confiscatory fees he charges, I would not ever call this business again. You should not either. Try Sean McMahon in Truckee. Several people recommeded GPI plumbing to me. They have a very good reputation around town. So I thought i'd give them a shot. I called in and explained the problem. After getting into contact with their office I got a call back from one of their plumbers named Chris. Chris did not listen well when I explained the problem (a leaky union in my water box near the pressure regulator) and insisted on taking a look before making an estimate (a $100 charge). He also refused to narrow down the price any more than "between a few hundred and several thousand dollars" (mind you, this is a leaky pipe!). His attitude during the phone call was that I was a nuisance and a bother, which is surprising to me as someone who works in a service industry. Generally, you want to be nice to someone who hasn't made a decision. It sounded like he, and the rest of GPI plumbing were too busy tofix my leaky pipe. In the end I did not invite Chris over to work on my leaky pipe, which is why I've given them three stars. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was a bad day for Chris, or maybe my experience was out of the ordinary. Called on Wednesday 1/28/15 because our cabin's water shutoff valve broke as I turned it off...left message with answering service. When I didn't get a call back a few hours later I called again. Danny called back and said he would have John check it out Thursday. So I wait and call again Thursday afternoon and John says he took a look and I need a new valve to turn water on under the house but I need to wait for Danny to call me back with a quote....no call, left another message Thursday and today is Saturday and still no call back, no quote, being we have no water at all at our place I cannot believe how unprofessional this company is.
