I highly recommend Roosters! We were visiting our son and were looking for something more than typical Mexican food, so our son suggested Roosters. They offer Latin America food with burritos, tacos and tequila. The offer inside and outside seating and luckily we didn't have to wait on a Thursday night. I was excited to see jerk chicken on the menu, but decided instead to split the Boss Hog with my husband. The Boss Hog is a huge burrito that contains slow cooked pork, black beans, and cheese and is topped with pickled jalapeños, ranchero sauce and chipotle cream. It was really good, and splitting it was plenty for me. I also ordered a side of sweet plaintains which are always my favorite. I was glad to see them on the menu. When we got the check, it was cool because they brought it in a book. Yes, an actual book that you can read. People write notes on the pages which adds to the fun.

I've been wanting to try this place out for months after seeing its raving review on triple D. Service was fast and friendly although our waitress never asked if we were pleased or not. The water tasted normal which is always nice. We ordered chips and salsa. The salsa wasn't spicy at all, just tasted like Smokey tomatoes and I thought lacked flavor, chips were also very thick but tasted good after we added salt. I was a little upset that I had to pay 3.50 for chips and salsa when there is free salsa at the hot sauce bar. I ordered jerk chicken tacos with plantains and my gf ordered carnitas tacos with beans and rice. The fresh pressed blue corn tortillas were great. My plantains were good but lacked salt and the way they were cut the center wasn't cooked all the way, kinda hard and gritty. Also my jerk chicken seemed like it was missing the jerk seasoning, the chicken itself tasted somewhat bland. Overall it was a good taco but I was expecting way better. The carnitas were amazing tho. The jalapeño slaw was fresh with the right amount of spice. The beans and rice were just ok, again not a lot of flavor just basic. I tried the mango hot sauce which was very sweet but no spice, I did enjoy it. But the Caribbean habanero hot sauce had zero heat it was like a flavorless cold soup. We had leftovers but ended up not taking them which I would assume the waitress would ask if everything was good but didn't. For all the hype I was very let down, it was good but I was expecting much better. I probably would go again because maybe they just had an off day. It was really busy when we first arrived and slowed way down by the time we left. Presentation of the dish and ambiance were very nice.

Back in November, my wife and I went to see Queensrÿche at Soul Kitchen in Downtown Mobile, but arrived downtown early to get something to eat. After finding some good parking, we made our way toward the venue, and sitting outside Roosters next door to Soul Kitchen were members of the band, who were waiting for their food at a table. We figured if the food was good enough for the band, it was good enough for us. So we left the band to their devices and headed inside to get something to eat. We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately in an area that was decorative, comfortable and quiet enough for a great conversation. We were pretty excited about the weekend ahead of us, and we discussed it at length. The waitress came and took our order. My wife decided on the nachos, and I went with the El Toro burrito. Now, I've lived in Mobile for ten years, and I've known of this place, but never tried it. And what a mistake that was. When our food arrived I couldn't believe how good it looked, smelled great, and I couldn't wait to try this fantastic looking burrito that was placed in front of me. And when I did, WOW! That had some of the freshest taste I'd had in a burrito! The cilantro was prominent and it really popped the flavor of the brisket, which was smoky and delicious in its own right. I could say I was pleased with it, but that would be an understatement. My wife seemed equally pleased with her nachos, which she called "really good". It was kind of a whirlwind dinner, as we had to go and claim a really good spot in line for the show. I'm actually looking forward to going there again and trying more of their menu in the future.

So there is an identity crisis going on with this restaurant. At first, I thought with the name "Rooster's" that it's a chicken joint. Nope. They branded themselves at Latin America restaurant. However, they serve some Jamaican/Caribbean flavors like Jerk chicken (that is not Latin food). They also serve Cuban Sandwich (Cuban, Dominicans, Puerto Rican has Spanish and African heritage, but identify more Caribbean than Latin American. Latin American is more mainland than island. I had the Paleo Plate with the choice of meats. That was definitely a plate with an identity crisis. I had the Jerk Chicken (Caribbean), and Al Pastor (Mexican with Lebanese flavor) serve with chimichurri (Brazillian not LatinX). This usually comes with one choice of meats. I was charge $14 for Jerk Chicken and another $14 for Al Pastor. Paleo w/ Choice of Meat Grilled Vegetables, Jalapeño Cabbage Slaw, Avocado, Citrus Pickled Red Onions & Chimichurri Mahi Mahi 17 Shrimp 16 Steak 16. Barbacoa 14 Pork 13 Al Pastor 14 Chorizo 13 Chicken 14 Jerk Chicken 14 Veggies 13 Mainly this place a Mexican restaurant that wants to be something else. There is no Peruvian rotisserie chicken. No pupusas. No Arepa. Basically it's a Mexican/Jamaican restaurant. Interior feels more like a Mexican restaurant. Service was okay. I had to ask server several times for a refill my soda and they weren't that busy.

Mardi Gras in Mobile and my wife and I needed a place to get a mid-afternoon snack in between parades. Tucked into a former clothing store, Roosters has a cool old-time Mobile ambiance. Several tables for sidewalk seating. Lots of servers and staff that make sure you're taken care of. The menu is eclectic Latin/Mexican. It's not the kind of place that gives you a free setup of chips and salsa. The free salsa bar has plenty of choices for doctoring your menu selections. We had the jerk chicken nachos. The basket had copious amounts of white queso covered chips. The jerk chicken was grilled chunks of chicken with some good flavor and just a little spice. The only knock on our snack was that the chunks of chicken were not as plentiful as hoped. Even so, this a go to spot when we're in Mobile.

Love this place it is a must! My Al Pastor was soooo good! This pictures shows proof. Chips and queso are a must here with any meal. Service was excellent also. Our ticket came out in a book which was so cute! Definitely need to try this place.

True authentic Mexican tacos being served here. These tacos are over stuffed with protein and very fresh toppings. The salsa bar is a nice touch. This place is conveniently located in downtown Mobile. I was promptly greeted when I walked in and seated. My server was very friendly.

Love to grab Roosters for lunch during the work day. It's a decently sized restaurant and typically there is never a wait unless you are with a larger group. The staff is always super nice and food comes out quickly. One of my favorite burritos I've ever had is the Boss Hog! It is delicious. I've also tried some of their tacos and they were good! My favorite part is your check comes in a book :) Will definitely return to Roosters!

The food was good, the Caribbean Jerk chicken will be a good try. No complaints about service and the vibe had energy. The drinks would be my only complaint, the margaritas seemed flavorless with little to no alcohol.

I wanted dinner local, a few minutes walk from my hotel and found Roosters. I am a huge fan of tacos and a good margarita. Upon entry I was greeted by their friendly staff. Shortly thereafter I ordered a refreshing hibiscus margarita and the Al pastor pork tacos with a side of chips and queso! The first bite into the taco was delicious and I knew I made the right choice! I loved the salsa and hot sauce bar too! I'm from the Deep South (living in Texas) and it was a pleasure meeting the staff at Roosters! Super friendly and pleasant.

Stopped in today with my wife. We are from Houston so we have no shortage of authentic Latin American cuisine. The food at this place is a little slice from heaven. Food is fresh and service is great! We sat outside which allowed us to smell the fresh hot peanuts too (SOLD AT THE SHOP NEXT DOOR). We will Be back!! read more

5 stars for delicious food, great hot sauce bar options, great service, and speed of service. I had the El Toro burrito . My only critique is that the Cheese dip bowl could have been a little bigger for the price however having said that I'd still order it again because it was so good. There are at least 20 to 30 different hot sauces and salsas available which I thought was a fun addition to their concept. It seemed to be casual/relaxed atmosphere with an elevated take on mexican/Latin/Caribbean food. read more

We had a part of 7 for my wife's birthday lunch. Everything was smooth and easy. The staff were cordial, professional, and efficient. They made us feel at home. The food was amazing. One of my (now) go to spots downtown. The Barbacoa was outstanding. read more

My boyfriend and I went here on a whim, we were both starving to death and totally Hangry. We have been to golf Shores earlier in the day and I got stung by a jellyfish so needless to say my mood was not great. These tacos changed my life. I'm not even being dramatic, they saved my relationship, they saved my outlook on jellyfish, I think I might move to Mobile Alabama now. read more

Love this part of town! Dauphin Street offers so many amazing restaurants, and by far this one stood out to me the best. Rooster's gives you a variety of authentic Mexican food's. The flavors of the Berea tacos are to die for. I would recommend getting the appetizer of nachos as a main meal or to share with the large group because it does come with the large amount for it's price. The service is so wonderful everyone I've ever talk to that has worked there has always been nice and respectful to me. One of my favorite things is when they bring your check out in a random book. You also can't forget Mondays are half price margaritas.If you're new to the area, or just visiting this would be my number one choices to choose for lunch or dinner. read more

Lunch visit with 2 other people. We were seated immediately. Food was tasty. I like the menu. The house made hot sauces were very good. (4 different varieties) The prices were reasonable. The wait time for food was on par for this type of food. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She was also very knowledgeable and helped guide us through the menu since it was our first visit. The ambiance is just average. It's the main reason I didn't give a higher rating. I would definitely go again but it's certainly not a "date night" type of setting. If you just want a good meal at a decent price.... give it a shot. read more

Considering everything, this is a 4.5 star place - which usually means I give it 4 stars. I really liked - nearly loved - the food. My sandwich was awesome & dessert was nearly as good. I don't love to stuff myself - but the portions were a tad light. I left thinking I could have had more for what I paid. BUT, the downtown Mobile food scene kinda sucks... This place is the best I've been to in a while, so I'm rounding up to 5 stars. read more

When we first arrived there I became a little concerned. The place seemed small and not enough room to accommodate us. We live in Pensacola and our daughter and family live in Ocean Springs Mississippi. We decided to meet half way and enjoy a meal and evening together. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. After they arrived a waitress came out and took our food and drink order and was even accommodating to our grandsons seafood allergy. The place was packed. The service and food were AMAZING. I wanted to like this place, however this is definitely not authentic Latin American food. The guacamole was overly powered by lime juice. I ordered a margarita, which tasted like Minute Maid lemonade with tequila. Ordered two tacos, the shrimp taco and the ribeye taco. These were fair, not bad not great. read more

So the chef has a full beard and no beard net. So does the manager walking the food out. They seem a bit disorganized on orders and having a real assembly line so not smooth like chipotle at all. We wanted to grab a bite to eat before the Native American Pow Wow Artwalk began. We hadn't been to Roosters since the pandemic, so we decided to give it a try. So happy we did. The corn tortillas in the tacos tasted amazing! Some places have dry flavorless tortillas but Roosters won't play you like that. Our server Karis was friendly and you'll be lucky to have him - true Southern hospitality. The food was spectacular. The chicken tortilla soup was super yummy - definitely having that again. We loved the hot sauce bar - and there are freshly cut jalapeños for you to bring back to your table, which I definitely did. I can't want to try a different taco next time. The presentation and flavors were fabulous - and so was the service. Looking forward to the next time! Oh and also! Midway through, we were offered a sample of the Pomegranate Ginger margarita - wow.. I hadn't had alcohol in years, so this was quite relaxing and unexpected. I think I shall order it the next time we visit, haha! read more

This restaurant was the only place I found that offered Birria tacos so I had this place in mind to try. When I got there and looked through their menu, I didn't see it on there. I asked the server and she said they offered it the day before. She told me to hang on for a minute for her to ask the manager. Luckily, they were to accommodate me but they ran out of their stew to dip the tacos in. They did offer something else for me to dip the tacos in and it was still delicious. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time this evening. First thing we noticed they were not busy but it took a while to be seated, the waitress we had was horrible to the point another has to get drink refills. The food is horrible and seriously overpriced for the quality. The barbacoa is just chunks of stew meat with no flavor, we ordered the kids quesadilla for our 4 year old with it they literally served him spicy queso which is absolutely ridiculous to even serve that to kids especially a toddler, the El Toro was so spicy nothing else could be tasted read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Wish I would have gone sooner because the El Toro burrito was not only huge, it was very delicious. The restaurant is simple and the wait staff was very responsive. I will be back for the chimichurri sauce that was piled on the El Toro. read more

Roosters Latin American Food was a nice downtown option for $$ dining in Mobile. Our server was very friendly and checked on us often, and the burritos we purchased (El Toro & Hen House) were very fresh and tasty, and the Chicken Tortilla soup cup w/fresh avocado was pretty good as well. There is also outdoor seating offered as well as indoor. The restaurant was clean and service was very reasonable in the timing. I was surprised they do not give complimentary chips and dips, and no sides w/the burritos at the 11 and 13 dollar prices point respectively, but still over all a good experience. A very different Latin American experience from what I am used to, and I don't have a comparison point for the city of Mobile, but I liked the decorations, service and food so definitely 4/5 stars! read more

Been here four or five times now and haven't had a bad experience. I'm either picking the best time to go or there is actually never a wait, since I haven't yet had to wait for a table. The nachos are great, especially for a group. You can add a protein. I've tried the al pastor and chorizo, both good choices, in my opinion. I'd like to branch out and try something other than the tacos, but I always go back to those. They serve the tacos on corn tortillas, but you can choose flour if you like (but why would you?). I've tried the shrimp taco, ribeye, and spicy steak. My favorite is the spicy steak because it seems to have the most flavor. I thought the shrimp taco could use some avocado and the ribeye was missing a little something. I always get the sweet plantains for a side and my daughter loves their black beans. Next time I'll try something new, like the corn avocado salad. read more

Oh man, eating that burrito felt like a spiritual experience. I went with the El Toro and the flavor was bursting out of the tortilla. The brisket is top notch and left a very memorable experience for me. So much flavor. The queso was also very good, the chips were okay -- I prefer thinner, crispier chips but overall they weren't bad. Will definitely return back here, very very good. read more

Was in Mobile for a day and dropped by downtown for lunch. Had the Jerk Chicken Tacos and shared the regular Nachos with friends. Both of which, were FANTASTIC. First the Nachos, I was really drawn to the nachos that other reviewers posted so I knew it wasn't going to disappoint. Don't be fooled by its appearance because there's a boatload of queso at the bottom. Even the regular nachos without any additional toppings looked great. Great to share with a group of friends as an appetizer. The tacos were amazing as well. Nice flavors and pairs well with queso and lime. I think the portion size was great because I was pretty full after my meal. I couldn't even finish the chips (although the nachos may be to blame for that). The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions regarding the menu. There is also a complementary salsa shelf--had about 7 different salsas to try of varying spiciness levels. FYI, there are two restrooms (one men's and a women's) with one toilet each. They have rolls of paper towel nicely stowed away so you don't have to worry about running out. There was a febreeze/disinfectant spray bottle by the sink as well, which I appreciate (no excuses for other people to leave the room stinky, but if they did, your nose doesn't have to suffer)! read more

This is my second time to enjoy this family owned Latin food. I had the carnitas taco. The meat is shredded finely and warmed up so the meat is crunchy. So flavorful!!!!I also Im enjoying their margarita!!! Now having the ribeye steak taco. Yummy!!! I'm staying a couple of days and will be back! Our waitress is so sweet. So nice to find these gems when you are hungry and are on great trips discovering the USA. read more

So happy to have found you guys during my business trip this week. Thanks so much for offering paleo plates! I picked mahi-mahi as my protein for the first dinner, then chorizo for the second. Spicy chicken tacos were very good! I enjoyed dining here. It was even taco Tuesday and so there was a $2 discount on taco combos. I'd pick the queso as a side again as it was delicious and cheesey even though not spicy. Service was great and they were respectfully wearing masks. read more

Roosters is absolutely divine! The atmosphere is unlike any I've ever been in around Mobile & the food is absolutely incredible. We were seated immediately even on a busy Friday night. History

Established in 2017.

Roosters is the brain child of Frankie Little and his wife Faye Mahan. Frankie had been working at several downtown bars and restaurants for years, all the while thinking that downtown Mobile needed a fresh style Latin restaurant. Since they had lived in Austin Tx for a time and traveled around Central America they had developed a taste for such cuisine and knew that if anyone was going to do it, it could be them. After searching they found a fantastic location in the heart of downtown Mobile. They opened in January of 2017 and have been working hard every day to have consistent quality and a fun atmosphere at Roosters. They live in Mobile with their 2 daughters and 2 cats.

I got there earlier than what the estimated time in my email said my food would be ready. The place was pretty close to packed. I realized the store was more than a restaurant because it displayed cuts of meat in the glass counter. I saw a family with children with popsicles that the parents had purchased along with the meal. When I moved further in the store I was approached by a employee and I told them I made an online order. She went back in the kitchen and came back with my food after a short wait. When I got back home, I couldn't wait to eat. There was a plate for salad and a plate for the quesadilla with the rice and beans. I mixed up the salad with the rice and beans. I don't eat Mexican food a lot so I'm not sure if that's how it's done but that's how I did it. I enjoyed it. Next I tried the carne asada quesadilla. This was like no quesadilla I had before. I say this knowing all quesadillas basically consist of the same thing: dough, meat, and cheese. This quesadilla was on another level because each of those ingredients were much better than what I've experienced before. The cheese was really the star of the quesadilla. It was so rich. I really loved this quesadilla. It was the best one I've ever had in life. Before I forget I want to mention I bought a Mexican Coca Cola with my meal. I could taste the difference from regular Coke but I can't exactly describe it. I loved it though. I really want to come back here and try more items on the menu.

There was nothing really special with the rice but I don't think I've had charro beans. They seem to be beans with what seemed like vienna sausage. It didn't taste bad. I really didn't know what to expect. On the to birria tacos. The definite star of the show. Being that my food was take out there was some sogginess to the taco shell but the tacos held up pretty good. I dipped the first taco in the consommé (yes, I googled it). It was very savory and the meat was tender. I don't eat a lot of authentic Mexican food but I know what good food tastes like. I definitely would recommend the birria tacos from La Cocina.

Very good food at a good price. This was my first visit, but I see it becoming part of my weekly rotation. I took advantage of the lunch special which included a pork burrito, a side of chips and queso blanco, and a drink. Portion sizes are enough to fill you up and the bill was about $15.00 including a 20% gratuity. The food was great. They offer four different salsas to go with your meal. I opted for the salsa verde (tomatillo and cilantro) and the spicy salsa (pico del diablo). The salsa verde made me homesick. It's the real thing although I make it with a little more kick. Still, it's very good. The "pico del diablo" was spicier and full of flavor...but the "diablo" reference was generous. It won't send you into fits praying for milk. The main attraction (in my case the burrito) was tightly wrapped, stuffed with rice, black beans, pork, and more.) It was exceptional at this price point. On the minus side we find some fairly spartan decor and plastic cutlery. Not to complain over something that minor, but if you're trying to enjoy a tightly wrapped burrito with strips of pork, a plastic knife and fork aren't going to get it done. Overall, this is a good place for a relatively quick lunch at a price point that represents a good value. The decor will probably evolve over time and this is not where you go to get engaged, but they offer good food at the right price without taking up your entire lunch hour. read more

Roosters is hands down one of my favorite spots in downtown Mobile! The tacos are always amazing -- fresh, flavorful, and fast. The Trifecta is a perfect starter (spoiler: everything's good). I love the open kitchen setup where you can see your food being made fresh right in front of you. The staff is friendly, the vibe is fun, and it's easy to see why they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
