Build your own terrarium
Lily C.

Brought my own container and had a blast decorating my own terrarium landscape. So many choices of plants and accessories to include, plus a fun place to explore the more advanced terrarium art downstairs. Only downside is after about a week or two, one of the plants in my terrarium took over and killed all the other plants inside so now it is just growing moss. Was still pretty in the moment and super fun to create!

Daniel, who ran the class, was very friendly and informative with a great history segment beforehand. We did not know the stuff he told us At All and it was fascinating! Daniel, my husband(haha), and I each made a terrarium and the wealth of options in plants and rocks was really excellent so our projects looked totally different and were a blast to make. We spent much more than I had expected, ringing in at about 500 dollars, but it's important to remember the fact that they will keep your terrarium beautiful For Years, guaranteed, if you come back with some dead plants or mold(highly unlikely) or anything at no additional charge. And, we'd never done something like that, so we both considered it money well splurged. A wonderful time! There were kids there having so much fun with their parents, too, which was super nice to be around.

This is a SCAM. Definitely do not buy their Groupon, and don't buy classes as a gift! Their "all included" Groupon doesn't actually include a jar or anything to put your creation in. Your $60 class includes a $25 credit toward a container of your choice... but they all START at $50. If you really want to build a terrarium, just by the necessities and do it at home. There's no reason to spend hundreds of dollars for them to tell you about dirt in a $50 Mason jar. Was this info a misprint? I called to ask and got THREE days of "Oh, I don't know... I'd have to ask someone and have them call you back." (Spoiler alert: They don't call back.)

Absolutely loved taking the terrarium making class at Roosevelts! Our teacher made it so fun to learn about the history of terrariums and guided us on how to build our own. My mom and I went together and we had a blast because it allowed us to be creative while learning something new. We also loved our teacher and could really tell how passionate he was about this business. I highly recommend taking this class with a group of friends or even by yourself!

Daniel was AMAZING. He was so friendly and eccentric, and taught everything super well. You can tell he truly enjoys his job. My partner and I felt so comfortable the whole time & had a blast building our Terrarium. There's so many plants to choose from and rocks, etc.Worth every penny ! Thank you so much !!

I've been following Roosevelt's Instagram for quite some time and convinced my cousins to join me for a terrarium class! I upgraded from the included ball jar sized container to the bubble container for $49. Putting it together was so much harder than I expected, but we had so much fun! The teacher started the class by teaching us the history of terrariums and did a great job demonstrating how to put it together. I was super happy with how mine turned out and I hope to bring my mom back with me next time!

This place is known as "the largest terrarium shop in the world" according to the class instructor. The variety of plants and terrarium vessels to choose from is incredible and impressive! This shop gives lifetime warranties on their plants, if anything dies or molds they will happily replace it for you! They also offer "plant spa care" where you can bring your terrarium in for a trim if things get too overgrown. The terrarium building class was very fun and educational, it's a must if you want a unique date night or night out with older kids. I highly recommend!

Went to Roosevelt's Terrarium this morning with my daughter for a two hour class and we were extremely happy with our experience there. Our instructor was Cali, the manager, and she was very friendly and helpful through out the entire experience - she was very patient, too. The place was very clean and organized and the classroom held on the second floor was spacious and well stocked. A word of caution - to get to the upstairs classroom you need to climb a spiral staircase, so it may pose a challenge for some disabilities since there isn't an elevator. I highly recommend this class. Enjoy!!

I look so serious, but this was a really fun class.

I have nothing but the highest praise for this outstanding family-run business. I've purchased multiple terrariums as gifts here, and I've also taken several of their classes. All of their products and classes come with an excellent replacement guarantee, so even if your green thumb turns brown they've got you covered. Gregg and James have a remarkable wealth of knowledge, and they will happily tell you anything you need to know about building or maintaining a terrarium. The store is a wonderland of sights and sounds. All of the plants are lovingly tended; robust and healthy and ready to go home with you. The classes are fun, extremely interactive, and easy to comprehend. If you're not an expert when you leave Roosevelt's, at least you'll be a terrarium enthusiast. I splurged when taking my class, upgrading to a much larger and more elaborate container. I'm so glad I did. My terrarium is still going strong three years later, so I haven't had to take them up on their replacement guarantee yet.

A friend asked to me to take a class here and I'm so glad we did! I was a little nervous at first as I had never done anything like this before. Kyle was our instructor and he was AMAZING! Great sense of humor, very patient ( I messed up a couple times) over all a great experience and highly recommend!!!

We came in to buy terrarium kits and assemble in house. The experience was excellent and met our best expectations. We were given guidance and assistance as needed; not overbearing but also not just abandoned to muddle through on our own. The place is full of interesting glass and plants and is perfectly placed off Hawthorne. Love it!

We joined a private terrarium class with another group celebrating. It was insightful & fun. You can bring your own snacks/drinks.

My wife and I were both able to plant terrariums under the guidance of Gregg the shop owner and his son James.

What I especially appreciate at this location is their dedicated information kiosk, there's usually someone there that you can speak to about pretty much anything plant related, they're a great resource to help troubleshoot gardening issues. I also love that Portland nursery hosts different groups like the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society throughout the year, where you can view & buy plants directly from the cultivator. What a great little but mighty plant nursery in S.E. Portland Oregon…read more I used to live in this neighborhood and it has many hidden gems. Birds and Bees Nursery is one of them. I'm a member of Carnivorous Plants Society of Oregon and one of my things is finding places that sell Carnivorous Plants outside of the big box stores. Sure the big Home store has plenty of Venus Flytraps every year but it's a cruel thing to see a plant abused by employees who don't know how to care for such a plant. First of all this plant has 2. basic needs. 1. All the direct sunlight it can get. At least 12 hours a day. 2. Distilled Water or Rain water. To see this plant living inside the store on a shelf dries out is a difficult thing to see. If it is watered, Tap Water us what it's given. Tap water is a for sure slow death to a Venus Flytrap Plant. So in my search, I found a little nursery in the burbs. Next to a Taco Smell restaurant, full of all sorts of plants from vines to carnivorous plants. In my interest, they had Sundews, Picture Plants and a ton of Venus Flytraps all sitting in the full sun. I found what I thought was a good specimen and when I picked up and looked at the Venus Flytrap I wanted, I realized it was actually 3 small and one slightly larger Venus Flytrap plants in the same pot for (I'm pretty sure in right. I was so excited to find such an awesome plant that I kinda forgot and the receipt wasn't helpful.) $15.00. They're usually about $10.00 for a common Venus Flytrap plant. I basically bought 4 plants for $3.75 a piece. With such great prices, my wife found a couple plants she couldn't leave without. We both left Birds and Bees happy. Update on our plants. They're all thriving in their new home.

I'm sure it's nice inside, but I wouldn't know, as there is no access for wheelchair usersread more
