This park is perfect for the doggos and heat-sensitive dog owners. Albuquerque summers get hot, too hot in my opinion. I find I have to carefully plan out my dog's walking schedule because any outside activity between 9:30 am-6:45 pm is just torture. Luckily, this park has plenty of grass and offers tons of shade. I think the focus of this park is a disc golf course, but theres also some picnic tables and a small playground. I always see lots of other people walking their dogs, so my dog definitely gives this place 5 stars just to see the other pups (he is actually the only dog in the world that doesn't like grass, but he enjoys walking along the trail). Overall, I appreciate this park for being an enormous and lovely shaded patch of grass.

    Greatest community, greatest canopy!

Great Park or Greatest Park? I've been staking this place out for a couple weeks trying to figure that out. I think I'm going to go with Great Park, but look forward to the continued improvements. First of all, greatest canopy! I can't think of another old growth canopy of this magnitude in the Albuquerque area. These giant elms were planted by the New Deal and that's the gift that keeps on giving. This is probably the greatest dog park in town too. AND DON"T LETS RUIN IT BY LEAVING POOP ON THE GROUND! OWNER OF DOG NAMED "DUCK"! yeah I'm watchin' you fool. Anyway... as I was saying, this is the greatest dog park as there are many off-leash hours before 10am and lots of cool people with cool dogs walking around, and there's little human/dog water fountains so you can drink at the same time. And there's plastic poop bag dispensers! hint hint. Next comes the playground which is great and always full of kids. It seems to have the right amount of slides and climbing combos. No swings though, and it's not under the canopy for much of the day, unfortunately. Roosevelt's got the greatest frisbee golf course. I've never played but it's always happenin and looks like fun. (Go ahead and invite me, I have an opening for frisbee-golf friend.) The green is nice and I've witnessed everything from 101 person work-outs, to giant 4/20 drum circles, to weddings, to family reunions. Greatest community! So all together, Great Park!

A great terrain for the game of bocce

I really love this park during the day... there are hills, pretty good plushy grass, ultimate frisbee, comforting trees and is located in a convenient area between downtown and UNM. Parking can be rough at times, but if you're close enough, take the stroll there instead. I love to play bocce ball here - the terrain is unpredictable and really forces some control out of you - learning how much your ball will roll, if there are divets and how fast it will stop, not to mention possible obstacles like loose twigs changing the course of your throw. I find this park to be very thrilling during holiday weekends because I love watching the masses gather with their families and do something so simple, fun, out in nature and inexpensive. People grilling out, playing volleyball, kicking around a soccer ball - laughs heard 'round the world, and when ABQ is somewhat dreary at times, Roosevelt on a Sunday in the Spring will cheer ya right up!

Some of the great trees in the park.

Beautiful park in the heart in downtown Albuquerque. I went with my 9 month son. We walked the paved perimeter and watched kids play disc golf. It was green, with rolling hills and established trees. The reasonit doesn't get 5 stars is due to location, and types of people I encountered. Generally the people seemed harmless, but i did see some questionable characters. But it's downtown. I'd suggest going with a friend, and having a picnic. Just have situational awareness.

Lots of trees and green grass! Pretty large also. Dog friendly. Great view of the valley. Free on street parking. Very quiet. Should be expanded!!

Beautiful park, lots of shade and soft grass. The frisbee golfers were a little aggressive though, so stay out of their way!

A birthday party would probably be a great success here, especially with supplemental kites or frisbees or other throwing things. The grassy field is sizable enough for kickball and other such terrain-sprawling sport. We had a compelling game of pine one ninja (think live-action fruit ninja, sub Dowel rods and pine cones). There's a quaint earthen walking path on the far side of the park that, I believe, leads to a pedestrian sidewalk passing over I40 and leading to the Winrock mall. There's also A bunch of well-maintained tennis courts, which I thought were for public use but appear to be restricted access... tennis club or something? I don't know for sure; better check with google on that. There's imposing chain link fences surrounding them, and while tunneling under may be difficult due to the asphalt and turf perimeter, you could probably climb them if you really wanted to play when the courts were closed. * Yelp does not condone criminal trespassing, and their views are not necessarily reflected in my satirical advice on circumventing restricted access. One star deducted because of bathroom access. There's one in that... tennis club?... building, but of course your bladder relief is then at the mercy of their hours of operation. Go play here. Just go pee first.

What I particularly love is that it has a very dog friendly vibe and I could take my dog for a walk steps from my home, knowing that it's a safe place for him and for me. The park is pretty clean. I think people who visit this park do a great job of cleaning up after themselves (minus a few dog poops that I saw around a park, which I hoped was due to unintentional unnotice of dog owners...and not intentionally leaving them there!). The park has both sand and grass area...they clean regularly (their trash is never full!) and provide free dog poop bags for those who forget to bring their own as well. The only drawback is that aside from a few big trees around a park, there's really not much shaded areas for you to hide from the heat. So, make sure you come when it's not 85F+ out. For me, since I live super close by...this temperature/no shade area isn't an issue for me. However, if you are walking from afar or driving here...maybe time it well so you or your loved ones (kids or dogs) don't get heat stroke!
