Josh is the BEST! After my daughter's first lesson, she stated, "That was the best thing EVER, Mom!" Josh is positive and fun in his teaching style. He has built confidence in my daughter, with her performing three songs on stage (big deal for us) only 2 months of taking lessons, with one song that she sang to. I almost fell out of my chair. Josh really goes above and beyond for my daughter. When we decided to purchase a guitar, he offered to come with us to choose the perfect one. He is kind-hearted, flexible and makes my daughter beam with excitement and pride as a result of his lessons. What makes him special is not just what he teaches, but how he makes his students feel. Roos Music had the magic touch with my 7 year old son, who took guitar lessons with Josh. My son is partially homeschooled and was painfully shy. I saw him blossom and become pretty decent in less than 9 mos. Not only did he learn the basics and more, but he gained a lot of confidence. We only stopped because of circumstances beyond our control. Somehow Josh gave him such a great amount of confidence in his musically ability, I've seen him pick up a little piano and by ear he can now play a handful of songs (without anyone showing him how)! Such a wonderful experience at Roos Music School! I am 28 years old and needed some help fine tuning my guitar skills. I knew the basics but needed help with expanding my abilities. Liz was amazing at finding me teacher that worked for me! This school definitely isn't just for kids! Both Jonny and Aaron were great teachers. Aaron was incredibly helpful at understanding exactly where I should focus my time and energy and helped me tremendously. I came away motivated each time I met with him to not only play the guitar more, but to also write and complete songs I'd already written. Liz was also kind enough to help me get into a couple of vocal lessons with Cassie who is sooo talented and such an amazing teacher. In two short lessons I learned so much about my voice and how to improve. She was also really encouraging and I didn't feel intimidated for one second at this school. I cannot say enough about the impact Josh and Liz have had on my family! My kids take piano from Liz and guitar from Josh and Aaron. Before we started at Roos, my son would not sing in front of people (even though he really wanted to). Josh not only have him the confidence to sing, but they've even written a song together! We are so happy we found Josh. My eight year old son all of a sudden had a desire to learn how to play guitar. He tried You Tube without much luck. My 2 children have been attending Roos Music for about a year and half now. They've been doing weekly, 30-minute piano lessons and it's AMAZING to see the progress! Liz, the owner is super easy to reach via text or phone and she is always very responsive! This is the first and only piano studio that my kids ever attended, so I don't have any to compare to, BUT, I do know that my kids enjoy their teacher very much and they LOVE the fact that they are allowed to choose a song to learn (they usually pick a popular song on the radio), in addition to the song that their teacher chooses (usually more traditional or classical). Roos Music does not participate in certificate of merit (CM), which is something that I was considering when I was initially choosing a piano studio/teacher. In the end, I decided that it's more important for my kids to love learning the piano and their teacher, rather than stress out over the CM tests and levels. Last, but not least, their studio is beautiful and comfortable! Bonus - you can watch your kids do their lessons on the big screen TV in the lobby, since each music room has a camera in them! In just a few short weeks, my daughter is playing more than she ever did in almost a year at another local music studio. One of the main differences is that Liz does not just conduct her lessons via basic piano books. She instead tailors each lesson to the individual student, helping them select songs - pop, christian, showtunes - that blend their music preferences with their level. She also educates them in classical music, teaches music theory and incorporates the history of famous classical composers as part of her very organized and clear weekly homework.
