PEERLESS Firstly,…read morelet me say that I've only lived here about a week. So far, I've had more pros than cons. Pros: Staff is very friendly, and always willing to help with whatever issues I may have. Security is good, and you never worry while coming home late. It's simply a beautiful building with a very interesting past. It used to be a club that would play some real headliners. My apartment is spacious and bright, with original floors and all. Cons: It's very noisy on weekends (but of course it would be as any place would that's surrounded by bars) The windows (this is a personal issue, and not something that is really a complaint) I'm short. Opening those windows were a real struggle and now I can't close them because I can't reach. This mean's I'll have to call maintenance for a ladder each time I want them opened or closed. The food dispenser was clogged and the washer was filthy, again a personal problem because they offered to clean and fix everything before I moved in but I chose to move in sooner rather than later, not giving them time to fix the issue. The only real issue I have is that there are fruit flies in my apartment and they are PERSISTENT. Having worked in the bar industry for five years, you'd think I would be able to get rid of them but they just keep breeding. I don't know if this is a maintenance issue that I can call them on, or if I have to call some form of pest control. The only reason it bothers me so much is because my kitchen is always clean, and yet they are just here. I hate that they keep getting into my cat's food when I leave it out for her. ALL IN ALL, I would def recommend the peerless building for anyone wanting to be downtown.

I am currently in my 4th lease at Shorewood Apartments and I couldn't be happier. I lived down the…read morestreet at Windsor and Brentwood and have looked into other complexes in the North Providence area. Shorewood made me a little embarrassed I had been spending so much money. At Windsor I had lived in a one bedroom and a two bedroom apartment. The two bedroom was the same sq footage (660) and the one bedroom except for the extra bedroom. At Shorewood I moved into a two story apartment! two bedroom 1.5 bathroom (this is two floors too!) twice the space. I went from 660 sq ft to just under 1100 sq ft. for $120 more. For that $120 Shorewood includes Heat AND Hot Water in their pricing which most complexes in this area do not. What was also appealing to me is Shorewood has a pool which does not incur a $500 per year amenity fee. Yes they have a hot tub and gym at Windsor but the gym is so small that only one person can work out comfortably at a time, hot tub is like warm at best. The maintenance and leasing staff at Shorewood is better too. Having recently changed hands twice, we finally have a leasing agent that promptly returns phone calls, maintenance staff the works around the clock to keep the grounds beautiful and tenants happy. I left Windsor at Brentwood due to pricing and because I had a family of squirrels living in my ceiling. I called up the chain of command telling everyone for 5 Months. No one ever followed up and when my lease was up I just left. At Shorewood, you can put in a work order or request without someone following up or fixing it within 12 hours or so. There was a rodent infestation last fall but the property owners spared no expense handling the situation and I haven't seen a rat since a little after thanksgiving. This of course can all be avoided by tenants picking up after their dogs and not leaving trash on front of the dumpsters. There are plenty of dumpsters around the property, None of them should ever be overflowing. It is not the Shorewood staffs job to go around making sure tenants know how to the trash away. It's actually embarrassing to have such sloppy and careless neighbors. Until tenants respect the property, Shorewood will not get the credit it deserves. Definitely the best return for your money in the North Providence area.

I highly recommend living here for a time.

Very unprofessional management and maintenance, inconsistent access to utilities such as water…read morebeing turned off weekly, no hot water, flooding in apts with no support and dealing with your own displacement, parking issues that leave tenants walking all over downtown to secure a space. Elevators not inspected and fail often. Trach chutes have been inaccessible for almost a year, and no accountability no matter what the issue is. If you like roughing it or living in continued chaos; this is the place for you. Has gone way downhill, and tenants rights are constantly being infringed on. Not safe for the elderly. Management issues threats to tenants on a regular basis that keeps people on edge, frustrated, and depressed regarding secure housing. STAY AWAY!!!!! Kindness, accountability, and professionalism could help greatly, but you won't get it here! SLUMLORDS from the regional manager (Cole) her boss and down to the entire First Realty Management!!!! The church would and should be embarrassed if they knew how horribly the tenants are treated... This place only makes tough times, even tougher... No one needs that!!!!!

I have yet to actually move in so I don't feel like I can give this apartment building 5 stars yet,…read morebut I will update my review after living there for a few months. Right off the bat, I have had an amazing experience with Stephanie in the main office, she is so sweet and helpful in getting all the paperwork situated and helping us through the process of the rental application. The apartment building itself seems clean and secure - a huge security upgrade from our current residence. I love that there is a free gym and secure package system as well. And the fact that all utilities are included (except internet/cable) is amazing!! This place has residents that have lived there for decades which makes me feel more secure about the situation if people want to stick around for that long. All in all I recommend this place so far!!

Alright... yeah yeah yeah I know... it's VERY weird to write a review on an apartment complex. But…read morelisten up! i'm writing this review for someone like me; someone new to the area; someone that is planning to relocate to providence/Cranston/Warwick; Someone who really cant do as much research before coming to this area. --- don't worry, I'll try to be objective! Uh! Quick story and please learn from my mistake. When I first moved here, I took the first listing off craigslist for room sharing. Let me tell you, that was the worst mistake EVER! I quickly moved out to eastside providence where it was nice; but a full house was a bit big for one person. After a Year, plus few months, I decided to move out, something small. With 2 months of research and visiting every 1 Bedroom Apartment complex within a ten mile radius of my work; focusing on the right amenities with the proper upkeep... I choose Independence Place, thus a glowing 5 star review. PROS! Everything here is BRAND NEW! From the paint, carpet, even the seal... Independence Place has paper thin walls, and you can hear everything your upstairs neighbor is…read moredoing. I have lived here for almost 2 years, and it has been an absolutely terrible experience. If you value sleep, peace, and quiet, then consider viewing another apartment in Cranston or Warwick. My dog is terrified, and she always stays in her crate (which she never would do before we moved here). The property managers, Katie and Crystal, can only do so much about noise complaints, that you are left on your own trying to resolve them. Save yourself a big burden and headache and look for another apartment. Edit in Response to Property Management: We have been complaining about the noise for almost two years now to no avail. I have a laundry list of messages to Crystal about how loud and disruptive it has been for us, and she has done nothing about it. It is not a little noise, it is a lot of noise. This is coming from someone who is a combat veteran and who currently works in the healthcare field, and who deals with noise on a regular basis. I also never acknowledged that Crystal has taken any of our complaints seriously, and she most likely will not take anyone else's complaints seriously. My point still stands: do yourself a favor, ignore the PR message from Crystal, and look elsewhere.

During my time there, security was a major concern. My car was stolen from the parking lot, taken for a joyride, and crashed. At the time, the property advertised security, but there was only one security vehicle covering multiple parking areas, which did not feel sufficient and the cameras were bot helpful at all. The walls were also extremely thin. We could hear neighbors clearly, including conversations, children playing, and other intimate noises. It made the apartment feel like it had very little privacy. The appliances were another issue. The dishwasher in particular was unreliable, and maintenance had to be involved repeatedly. Eventually, it felt easier to handwash dishes than keep dealing with the issue. So understand that if you're impressed by appliances. Shiny means nothing. The amenity spaces, including the game room and theater room, were not consistently well maintained. The theater room was fun to use, but residents were expected to bring their own vacuum from their apartments to clean it afterward, which felt inconvenient and poorly planned. I personally felt they should leave a vacuum in the theater room since the maintenence closet was right there, lugging around a vacuum across a parking lot is not luxury living in my opinion. My biggest concern is with the office/accounting side. I am currently dealing with a collection account for over $6,000 that I disputed. I have not lived there since 2022, and my rent was paid at the time I moved out. Near the end of my lease, the property attempted to pursue an eviction using information which to me looked like they mixed up my account with another tenant's acct. The court case was dismissed. Despite that, years later, this alleged balance was sent to collections and is now affecting my credit. I am currently disputing it and requesting full documentation showing how this balance was calculated and why they believe I am responsible for it. Which is incredibly stressful to be dealing with this place after all these years. Its shameful for them to be this committed to their lack of organization and professionalism. Esp considering how good of a tenant I was. Based on my experience, the property was poorly managed, disorganized, unsafe, and stressful to deal with long after moving out. I strongly recommend that anyone considering living here reconsider your options. But if you must see for yourself keep copies of every lease document, payment confirmation, court record, move-out document, and all communication with the office. This place felt like nothing more than a money grab.
