The Caipirinha You can see the obvious joy as he shakes the cocktail before pouring into a glass If I could offer 1 single -observation, the garnishes served with beverages in this lounge should be more impressive. Simple things such as sugared rims on glasses, more fruit garnishing, and offer a Bloody Mary with garnishes that knock your socks off. Truly the management of this hostel in the center of Chiado are doing an impressive job.

The last leg of our honeymoon could not of been better! Lisbon, I will return one day to conquer you...I promise. And when I return there is a good chance I will stay at Hotel Do Chiado. The hotel was a bit hard to find (thanks to me NEVER taking proper notes on how to get to our hotels - it's like a vacation tradition we always get lost finding the hotel.) but the locals were nice enough to lead us in the right direction. At the bottom of a hill, on a semi-main street is the entrance. The lobby was nice, and the front desk staff was extremely nice - spoke English, Spanish and Portuguese. They welcomed us, gave us a rundown of amenities and we were on our way. Quick & easy. Perfect. We opted to pay a little more and get a room with a better view when we reserved. WORTH IT. GET THIS UPGRADE. It wasn't much more but the room/view was phenomenal. First of all, it comes with your own terrace. I don't mean a depressingly small, cramped balcony. No. I mean a large open air terrace with a table, chairs, grass and amazing view of the Castle of Sao Jorge and city. SO NICE. We missed out on eating/sipping at the restaurant/bar on the top floor which has another awesome view. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have experienced in a hotel (maybe I was just DEAD TIRED). The room was spacious and comfortable. The location is excellent. It's easy to get to from the airport and surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars and a mall. There was a ton of activity on a Sunday afternoon with people shopping, hanging out and just walking around. Most seemed to be locals which was kind of cool. We ended up eating in the mall food court (I know, I know...it's a sin!) but it was actually pretty good. A huge plate of food with rice, beans, meat and plantain. It was great and reminded me of the Brazilian meals I have had at my buddy's house. I wish we had more time in the city. Unfortunately this was where I crashed after the longest three weeks of my life that included 6 flights, my wedding, training for a new job, honeymoon and walking around Rome. I crashed in that previously mentioned bed like a rock in a river. BEST. BED. EVER. as far as I am concerned - my wife might disagree!

As former inn owners we were VERY impressed with the hotel...and slept very well…read more Where to start? Everything exceeded our expectations which are high. We were booked in for five nights.... We asked for a quiet end of corridor room and were given one however it overlooked the side of a square and thus we thought it could be noisy....how wrong we were. The glazing is superb and despite having two doors out to balcony we heard nothing. The room was compact but very well designed having enough furniture to be useful but none to get in the way. The small bathroom had a deep tub with excellent shower over it. A small fridge kept my quickly delivered small jug of fresh milk cool. We travel with our own tea bags so did not use the in room espresso machine on this occasion. The bed with an excellent king mattress, pillows and linen were top notch. It is rare to find such a good selection of pillows in a hotel these days. Most importantly the room preparation crew did an excellent job and the whole hotel was spotless. Being give some custard tarts, a small bottle of port upon arrival and a bottle of red vino for our last night were lovely touches. ALL the staff we came across were friendly and helpful and the waiters in the restaurant were delightful and chatty in the best way. We ate in the bar one night and found the selection of foods to be very interesting and tasty. Breakfast buffet was exceptionally managed and never looked unkept or swamped and provided a plethora of foods including some excellent yoghurt in little glass jars as well as a impressive selection of hot and cold food. Would we return....you bet as the hotel is central to most of the sights in Lisbon and right opposite the train station for trains to Sintra. We left for the short taxi ride to the airport and hour too early as Lisbon airport which was exceptionally busy, seemed able to cope with hordes of passengers until you get to your boarding gate where seats are at a minimum.

The room was on the smaller side, but the amenities in the room were nice. They will provide bottled water daily. The rooftop deck has a nice view and I could see relaxing here after a long day of sightseeing. We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant, which was excellent. There is no gym, but they do offer access to another gym in the area.

We were in the on decorated by the blue tiles. Oh and the food is phenomenal. We ordered the "pica-pau" for appetizer. It's marinated pork, which is then pan fried with aromatics, onion and garlic. We also ordered the migas and ribs. Migas is a rustic dish made by repurposing leftover or stale bread. Rooted in peasant and shepherd traditions, the bread is moistened and then sautéed in olive oil and garlic. It was served with short ribs. I ordered the pork and clams, a specialty from southern central portugal. Sounds crazy but it's amazing good and a throwback to my childhood. For dessert we shared sericaia, another southern Portuguese delicacy which is a flan-type with baked prunes. Unfortunately, due to jet lag - I was awake to find bedbugs crawling on us during our first night there. We were actually able to catch live bugs and place them in a ziplock. The staff seemed genuinely apologetic. The manager, however, was apathetic. If we had not had bed bugs in our room - it would have be a wonderful five-star stay. I understand that bed bugs can happen when you travel. They were unable to accommodate a room change and we were invited to leave. A recommendation point, an upholstered headboard cannot be properly cleaned. And both our rooms had upholsterer headboards.
