What set them apart right from the start was our salesman, Doug. Out of all the estimators we spoke with, he was the only one who actually got up into the attic. That attention to detail immediately stood out, and it uncovered some unique framing quirks where the original 1910 structure met an addition from the 70s. Because of that thorough inspection, our quote was the most accurate of the bunch, and the project ended up coming in slightly under our budget. Beyond the initial estimate, Guardian checked every box: * Experience & Trust: They have a long-standing presence in the area and a solid reputation among customers. * Top-Tier Protection: Their factory certifications qualified us for a 50-year shingle and 25-year workmanship warranty. * The Crew: The workers on-site were phenomenal--highly skilled, courteous, and hardworking. It was genuinely a pleasure watching their camaraderie and the meticulous care they took with our property. Like any major roofing project, a few minor hiccups popped up along the way, but the company handled every single one of them with professionalism. The finished roof looks amazing, and the house is protected for decades to come! If you are shopping around for roofing work, I would highly recommend Guardian.

Due to the anticipation of heavy rains around the corner, there was a definitive timeline when work needed to be completed. Javier and his crew showed up on time every day and worked hard through every step of the roof installation. I needed to discuss replacing the underlayment on my roof or completely replacing the roof. I sent him a message and he called me that same day and we scheduled an appointment for the next day. I asked him about replacing the roof and he immediately said we would save a lot of money by just pulling the existing cement tile and placing a new 50 year underlayment on the roof. He also said the attic would be much cooler, approximately 20 degrees versus using a new asphalt shingle. Well, I agreed with his plan and his quote was very competitive. His comments on the detailed work they provided sealed the deal. Javier and his experienced team arrived one week later to begin the repair and replacement of the underlayment. I was out of town and he notified me later the first day to show me pictures and explain that he needed to replace a lot of the water damaged plywood sheeting. The complete job, which included painting the underside of the new shiplap material was completed in four days.

Jose Matthew arrived at my place, looked at the entire roof, assessed the gutter build-up, and gave me a very reasonable estimate--emailed Scope of Services--for not only the gutter cleaning, but also to cover the cracks in a number of vent pipe seals. My roof is in good shape, so nothing was needed in that regard. Jose Matthew did all the work himself and subsequently texted me photos and videos of what was done. I am happy to report that everything was completely stress-free (unlike some other contractors) and finished in short order. Ruff is now in my calendar for an annual inspection every summer to make sure everything is okay before the rainy season comes around. I would recommend contacting Ruff for any roofing/gutter needs.

The protection his crew provided for my professionally landscaped gardens and hardscape areas was beyond what other companies were willing to do. At the start, communication was excellent. They responded to calls, texts, and emails promptly. I initially worked with Chris, and once the project began, I was transitioned to Greg. Scheduling took some time due to heavy rain earlier in the year, but once we were on the calendar, they got to work quickly. We chose to invest in top-of-the-line materials because we see our home as a long-term investment in a highly desirable area. During the installation, we anticipated there might be additional costs once the existing roof was removed. When issues were discovered, the team communicated promptly, which I appreciated. However, toward the end of the project, communication became more difficult. I had trouble reaching Chris, Greg, and the owner, and felt like I had to follow up multiple times to get clear answers. One situation that felt uncomfortable was when a prospective client came to our home after being told by Chris that our roof had recently been completed by Baja Roofing. While I understand wanting to showcase their work, it was concerning to have a stranger come to our house(especially because I have a small child) without any prior notice. A heads-up would have been appreciated. Additionally, there were a few instances where incorrect invoices were sent to me. Given the size of this investment, that made me uneasy, as I wanted to ensure everything was accurately documented, including the upgrades we paid for. I also raised a few concerns via email that I felt were somewhat dismissed toward the end of the project. Overall, while the work itself met expectations and started off with strong communication, the lack of consistency toward the end made the experience a little more stressful.
