Houston (that's the Barkeeps name) pots a proper Black & Tan!

Great little pub for your favorite pint! And they open early for Premier Leauge matches!!

---Dearest Reader, I've got friends in low places, where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away, and I'll be okay...as long as I'm at Ron's Pub. If you're looking for a gastro pub or a fancy mixology bar, this is not for you. If you're looking for good company and a good crowd with an even better staff (management to behind the bar), this is the spot for you. If you're put off by darts, golden tee, regulars and a retro vibe, this is not for you. If you're made uncomfortable by any of this, not for you. However, if you're willing to embrace and become part of a tight knit and welcoming group of regular patrons, Ron's is the place for you. There are so many welcoming, unique, eclectic but genuine patrons that frequent this watering hole (including myself) that make it a hidden treasure amongst the Houston bar scene. ---Bottoms up

I really enjoyed this pub. My friend and I came in late after wanting to check out the spot on a random weekday. The good think they are located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The location is right next to Cliffs burgers and across the street from a HEB. The only down fall about this place is they don't serve food but they do allow you to bring in food. I also went to Cliffs burger next door and the delivered to me in the pub. This place allows smoking on the patio and they have a wide range of beers on tap. I felt the drink prices were very affordable and the crowd is neighborhood relaxed. Overall I would definitely come back it a low key dive bar. Definitely worth stopping by if your in the area.

I hate to be the oddball yelper and had been the one to receive less than stellar experience but I cannot explain why and what happened. Came here on a Thursday night with a fem friend and did not know what to expect. I envisioned it as a semi quiet place but boy was I way off. Besides the what seemed college frat crowd in the 2nd part of the bar in the back that could be heard loud and clear with their cheers the music in the first part would have one almost having to talk at an uncomfortable decibel or cup your hand and speak to someone's ears. If you like semi loud to little loud then here is your place. Strike 1. Got to the bar part and was not sure what we wanted I asked my friend what was her poison, she felt like a draft so we took a small moment to view the somewhat dozen draft beers offered. She had the Heineken which she said was nice and cold while I felt like a Guinness (draft). I think there might have been a problem with the line because the 1" head of beer that I got turned into more than 3/4 of the glass or more like 6 inches of it. See photo to see what I am talking about and how this was served to me. I must have had 50 Guinnesses in my life and have never been served anything more than 2 inches from the top, is this the new in? No worries, wait 3 minutes for suds to go down and play catch up with your partner. Strike 2 Bartender.... I hope this was not "Ron" but this had to have been the most stoic bartender that I have EVER run upon in my life. Remember the look of the soup Nazi in "that" sitcom everybody knows about? Well I found out where he works now, at least for this particular night. We felt as if we were doing a disservice to here by trying out a place that I heard a lot of good things about. I conferred with my friend about this and she agreed that it seemed as maybe we didn't belong in "the neighborhood" bar where everybody else knows someone else. Strike 3 As far as some of the reviewers saying it was a sausage fest here I felt there was a fair amount of females here to negate that for that night. I think we counted at least 8 including my friend in contrast to the about 30 males here. Also be prepared to pay about $11.50 just for two draft beers, I forgot the price of my somewhat favorite Richmond Arms Pub but at least you get some semi smiling female bartenders to tend to you. Like I said, I know I am going against the grain and I really did want this to be at least a 4 star experience since it's a block away from work but I think I'll pass up 20 bars/pubs to get at least one decent experience at any place. Mouldoon's Patio was our friend that night (semi quiet). Hate me if you will and I probably will get a lot of hate messages but rest assured you will be ignored. I have a right just to my opinion on my experience and I know you probably didn't like it if your a regular Ron's Pub crowd. Forgive me Ron, nothing personal.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Visited here midweek after going to a Yelp event at the nearby Regal. I'd seen this spot a few…read moretimes when dining with colleagues nearby and assured myself I'd check it out as soon as I could. I'm glad I did! When walking in it wasn't crowded but there were a fair amount of guests for a near 10 pm crowd on a Wednesday. I went and sat at the bar to which I was immediately greeted and provided menus. Food & Drink - 5* I immediately ordered some wings and fried pickles and peppers. Then I debated between the Irish Stew or the Shepherd's Pie. When I inquired, both are great but advised I should go with the Shepherd's Pie. Off to races we go. Fried pickles and peppers, delicious, the batter isn't over the top yet doesn't fall off terribly. The cilantro jalapeño sauce is a fantastic pairing. The wings -- great, nice crisp, flavor was not necessarily what I expected, I couldn't place it at the time it they were good. Now, the shepherd's pie, wow, this dish was addicting. I'd come back over and over for this while sabotaging in semblance of a balanced diet. Just makes me know that the Irish stew is likely equally fantastic. The drinks, well, I can't speak to cocktails but the Guinness was delicious, cold, with nice collar/head. Can't go wrong with that! Service - 5* Everything one would want. Friend, fast, and attentive. Water was always full and was asked if needed anything multiple times. The only thing I didn't get proactively was napkins, but when I asked, I was provided some quickly. Cost - 4.5* Overall, I think, subjectively speaking, everything here is pretty well priced. The shepherd's pie may be a tad overpriced but it's worth it in how delicious it is. Overall - 5* This was a pleasant surprise to visit and I will certainly come back. Subjectively the location is good and bad. Being next to the improv and movie theater I'm sure helps attract many patrons for these businesses. At the same time, this joint, with a loyal following, would sustain business and "feel" better as a free standing establishment in a more neighborhood type environment. Nevertheless, great place, would recommend people stop in even if they aren't visiting the stalwart attractions in the area.

Service here was impeccable. Very attentive but not over-whelming. Will definitely come back on a…read moregame day
