This is the place to go in the DMV if you're looking for a new Yamaha piano…read more We were first-time piano buyers looking for a new U1. From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.

Anyway, I had to cancel the order a few days later. Refunded me immediately. Honest and trustworthy owners! Thanks and sorry it didn't work out. Great music store!

I had the best experience with Rick Jones Pianos. I found their website about a year ago and had…read morebeen slowly saving up money to buy my first piano. I love that every piano on their website has a video of Rick or another staff member playing the piano and talking about the history, touch, tone, feel, etc. but also the store policies and other FAQs. When I finally had enough money saved and a few pianos in mind I wanted to look at, I headed up to the store, and was greeted by the incredibly friendly staff. They let me know I could walk around and touch and play every piano in the store and they left me alone to fiddle around and I felt so comfortable in making my decision. No one tried to force me into anything, and it really came down to what I was comfortable with. With that being said, you can't beat the prices anywhere. Yes, Facebook Marketplace has "free" pianos, but I couldn't trust those because some have been sitting in garages and untouched for decades, where as Rick Jones has refurbished and taken care of every piano in the store. And free shipping within 100 miles! Anywhere else you would have to pay a minimum of $600 for shipping, and piano movers in my experience are not easy to work with. I have to say I got a great deal on my piano and I'm absolutely in love. I have no regrets and I would definitely recommend Rick Jones to anyone looking for a piano, especially a starter piano if you don't want to spend tens of thousands of dollars. Thank you, Rick Jones, for bringing this beautiful instrument into my life.

My wife and I had a lot of questions, but Sam, Kathleen and Paul answered each with patience. Their depth of knowledge and love for piano excellence showed at every turn. I tried pianos for two and a half hours--there were so many excellent choices on their extensive showroom floor. It was a difficult decision, but with their help I know I made the right one. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience! If I could leave six stars, I would.

Have you ever met someone and instantly knew they were about to become a huge part of your family?…read more Tom Bonvegna responded to an online inquiry I had about a Baby Grand piano that I wanted to surprise my husband with while he was deployed. My husband had played for years and since this was our first home purchase, I really wanted to make that happen. Tom, a Vietnam Vet and hero, reached out to me, heard my story and desire, and made it his goal to help us get a beautiful piano delivered. Our budget was ridiculously tight, and Tom made it happen. I researched everywhere, from estate sales, other online marketplace forums, about 15 different piano stores (some local, some not). After all of the research I had done (not knowing much about pianos beforehand), I learned that unless you REALLY know your stuff, you needed to go through a reputable company. If a piano wasn't tuned for the duration of its life, it could look pretty, but it wouldn't be very functional. I almost made a deal with another company that I would have regretted... and then Tom called and from that moment, I had an absolute peace about working with him. He was not a "salesman," but a true gentleman. Tom went the extra mile by a lot!!! There was one piano we thought would work, and it was even bigger than my original plan. After Tom looked at the pictures of my home (and staircase), we decided to wait for another piano to become available. There was a little bit of time that went by where I didn't think we were going to find it, and then... the call came. Tom found the most beautiful Yamaha, ebony, baby grand that plays incredibly! My husband was completely surprised and has loved at (1) having a baby grand piano delivered in his home without him there, (2) that I stayed within my designated "muahahaha" budget, and (3) that we found such an incredible person to work with. The piano delivery service was also excellent! Such care, such professionalism, and physical strength too. It's been four and one-half months and my home has been filled with music ever since. Thank you Jason's Music Center for being such a wonderful company to work with...and thank you to Tom for really making this happen.

Once we decided on a piano, Steve was able to make the magic happen so we could bring it home! This included trading in our baby grand. As our piano wasn't in stock, Steve went out of his way to locate one for us. There was a wait for the next shipment and the process of customs, but it was so worth it! It has a beautiful, rich, mellow sound! We are looking forward to the decades that this piano will be used! Today alone, it's been used almost nonstop since it's arrival! Also, the piano movers were so professional and really took care of each piano during take down and set up. Thank you again Steve!

I have changed this from a 1-star review to 3-star, due to the fact that the other owner, Rich, contacted me immediately upon seeing it and reading what happened. As the other owner, Tim, did nothing to help the situation, I can't recommend them. But Rich reached out immediately to apologize, refunded my money, and got me a detailed and corrected appraisal of the instrument, with lots of interesting background about it. He is obviously very knowledgeable, and cares about his company and its reputation. He also let me know that the first appraisal was incorrect because they used the wrong model, which is a serious error. Pianos have greatly differing values, so if they don't use the correct model it will certainly make a huge difference in what the sale price should be. Original 1-star review: Hired this company to do an appraisal of my mom's baby grand piano, which cost $265. Guy came out to evaluate it on August 9. I never heard back from anyone. After almost a month had passed and leaving 5 or 6 messages on their answering machine without reaching anyone, sent 3 emails without reply, I finally reached a person. Had to threaten filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General to finally have them send me what I'd paid for. Then what I finally received did not match up with what the guy who came to evaluate it, nor what the person from the same company said about it when she tuned it the year before. Something is up here and it stinks. I now have to get this re-evaluated by someone else. Stay away from what appears to be a very unreliable company that's happy to take your money, but not provide the service they were paid for.
