I've eaten a lot of Italian food over the years, and this was easily some of the best I've had. The Alfredo was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without feeling heavy. The pesto penne was fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. We kept trading bites because we couldn't decide which one was better. Even before the entrees came out, the salad and bread were amazing. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. Nothing felt rushed or mass-produced. You can tell there is real pride behind the food here. What stood out just as much was the hospitality. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and made us feel genuinely appreciated. We had the chance to chat with the owner's mother before leaving, and that level of warmth really reflects what this restaurant is about. It's rare to find a place where every part of the meal hits, from the bread and salad all the way to the last bite of pasta, but Lorenzo's absolutely delivered. We'll be back, and we'll be bringing friends and family with us. If you're in Las Cruces and wondering whether this place is worth trying, the answer is yes.

Usually, large group seatings brings service glitches, food glitches, less than optimal food temperatures and less than optimal drinks service. Trattoria Bella Sera absolutely nailed our experience with professional perfection every single element of the experience. Our group cherishes the times we can be all together and this wonderful experience is deeply appreciated by all of us. The food: Just stand out in all regards from the simplest pasta and red sauce (in my case, the cherished puttanesca which I make often at home) to the seafood and pasta white sauces, to the appetizers which we all shared (OMG, try the mushrooms in cream sauce and the bread and garlic!). The service: a single waitress took all our orders and she was just perfect. The plate delivery and eventual removal was a team effort and all were served at the same moment. Even the plate removal was done perfectly by the waitress and the bus lady. The dining room: We were set aside and a little out of the way of other dinners in a large high ceilinged room with really exceptional lighting and decors. Result was it was quiet enough that we could comfortably talk before, during and after the dinner which really added to the whole experience. The cost: One of the siblings picked up the tab but simple pasta plates are mostly $18 (my puttanesca was $2 additional and very worth it), then the $24 pasta and protein plates, then the $26 higher end plates and the $30 3-course plates. Note that most pasta plates are served in deep bowls with 1/3 of the sauce at the bottom and very hot so that the entire dish stays hot through the meal. Star ratings: If I could give them a 6 star rating I would.

They are simply magic here both in terms of flavor complexity and texture. Their texture here is truly the best. I literally was licking the plate at the end of each of these. I tried all four of their moles as plates and also as a sampler on four different occasions and all are very complex, rich, creamy and satisfying. -Mole Poblano. "A not so sweet ajillo pepper mole sauce with traditional ingredients and a touch of Oaxaca chocolate." This was the first we tried here and what brought us back for more. -Mancha Manteles mole: This mole is described on their menu as: "Sweet pineapple, red apples, fried plantain and a wonderful choice of spices make this mole a great and unique experience". This mole like their other ones came out piping hot, creamy, thick, complex and delicious. -Mole Negro: Chichilo pepper and tomatillo mole sauce with a smoky taste and a hint of ash. -Mole Verde o Pipian. Toasted pumpkin seeds and tomatillo mole sauce with a hint of hoja santa (root beer plant) My husband and I get their enmoladas stuffed with vegetables and get double serving of the black beans (rice has chicken stock so we avoid it to keep the meal vegan/ vegetarian). The plates are always piping hot and soooo yummy. When they have all four moles available they offer a sampler as well. We did this on our last visit and it was fun to revisit the 4 moles we had their side by side and compare them. I really love the ambiance out on the peaceful patio and there's cover form the sun. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with fried chicken. The chicken was cooked well, but the Alfredo sauce tasted like it was store-bought rather than homemade. I also added the potato and sausage soup for an extra $1.99, and it reminded me of a less flavorful version of Olive Garden's soup. Considering the prices on the menu, I was surprised that soup or salad wasn't included with the meal. My husband ordered the steak, and it was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. We also really enjoyed the garlic olive oil with bread and the spinach and artichoke dip--both were definite highlights of the meal. One thing that caught us off guard was the drinks. We each ordered a soda, but instead of receiving fountain drinks, we were each given individual bottles. I'm not sure if they don't have a soda fountain or if it's their way of serving soft drinks, but it felt a little unusual, especially given the higher prices. Overall, the food was a mix of hits and misses. While the steak, appetizers, and bread were excellent, the pasta and soup left us disappointed. We may come back for the steak and appetizers, but probably not for the Italian dishes we originally came to try.

We did a calamari starter and decided to go ahead with our dinners too. Lasagna was my choice, actually 2 of us had lasagna and 2 had the dinner combo with lasagna, fettuccini Alfredo and chicken Parmesan. The calamari was a little too done, and the manager noticed it, came to our table and suggested that we allow him to bring a properly prepared replacement. We said ok, and when the 2nd version came out, we realized how much better it was. Nice catch! Our meals came out on super hot plates, but each one of us was warned and we followed instructions! My lasagna was sooooo big! I got 3 ample meals out of it. And it was better each time. Love how Italian dishes always get better with a little bit of time! We had no room for dessert- given the salad and breadsticks feature. My only wish is that they had a romaine lettuce salad rather than the mixture they used. Iceberg lettuce is my nemesis, I can't eat it! Oh well, I had plenty to enjoy without it! It was a busy Wednesday night, but not loud at all. Our waitress had refills for us in the blink of an eye and she was attentive and nice. I was impressed with the service and food quality, which I don't often say in big chain restaurants!

We came in a Monday about 40 minutes before closing and it seemed like they were getting ready to end the night. No one else was in the restaurant though there were a couple people at the bar. We told them we just wanted something fast and would be in and out quickly and were seated quickly at a booth. Our waitress was amazing and still kind and energetic though it was the end of day. Free bread with garlic balsamic olive oil, bread was warm and they were very generous with the amount of dried garlic. Margherita pizza: we picked the most standard one and it was odd. Instead of cheese and fresh basil it had slices of tomato and dried basil. Crust was underdone and there was way too much cheese on it. Italian nachos: Crispy pasta chips, black olives, pepperoncinis, Roma tomatoes, jalapeños, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella and parmesan. I felt rushed with the young man waiter hovering over the table looking at me while I looked at the menu, we had just gotten there and gotten our teas. Seemed inpatient so I went with the same lunch special I had last time and forgot that for some crazy reason the pasta and sauce does not come with mozzarella cheese! Who wants pasta with no cheese? Yes I realized after the fact while not being pressured to order, the FINE print list of all things ADD Ons. I'm surprised the sauce was included. It would be a nice touch if the waiter or waitress would kindly ask if I want some baked cheese, I would say yes! He did ask about parmesan but thats not the same. Needless to say, I required a large takeout container and brought most of the pasta home in case I want to add cheese and bake in the oven. Honestly, next time i'll boil the pasta, make the sauce, and bake it with cheese myself. I'm disappointed , I thought we had found a nice little place to come eat while we're here since there is a lack of places besides the usual.
