I was told equipment will be provided then the day before the class i find out that i actually need to buy it all myself because it's "not guaranteed." Not what i was told at the beginning but okay (i have texts to prove it too). It seems like whoever is in charge of responding to peoples questions and concerns doesn't really care if you're not apart of the gym already. Not sure if that's what's going on for sure, just how it feels after being ignored and getting a lackluster or no response at all. THAT'S NOT EVEN THE WORST PART. I'm a total beginner. I have made that very clear from the beginning and i think i have asked which Muay Thai class is the beginner class (because you guys have 3-4 of them at different times) because obviously I dont want to go into an intermediate class when, again, I'm a beginner. You think you'd want to answer this question relatively fast so someone doesn't get hurt but i guess thats not the case here. I thought i found a good gym and one that was close to the house but i guess it's back to finding a new gym.

So I show up, and in my experience, dropping into open mats can be dangerous as you are an outsider and sometimes people can get really scrappy and potentially injure you. Here, however, was the best experience. Everyone was so cool and chill and all the rolls were smooth. Nobody had bad intentions, just a good time. The workers were very welcoming and made me feel like part of the team for those 2 hours and I really appreciated that. All around 10/10 gym between the technical ability of the Gym-goers and the overall great culture.

It's a very friendly environment and the classes are very intense, everyone is very encouraging and they push you to become stronger and work hard. And the prices are pretty acceptable. They also have punch cards instead of monthly if you are busy and there is no BS contract fee!! My personal favorite is the Sunday morning class for drills. Since the time he started at RRBJJ, the brotherhood has grown exponentially between the coaches and the team. There is a camaraderie within this team that is hard to describe. You don't have to have been on Team Rabadi for years to feel like you are actually part of that team. I've seen coaches and seasoned BJJ competitors welcome new students to the school without hesitation and offer additional time to those 'newbies' who are interested and wanting to learn. There is no intimidation upon entering through the school doors, just a sense that you're about to get one hell of a workout and meet some new friends. How can you not make friends when the positions you put yourself in (or are put in by others) can be fairly awkward!? I do love this school and the team it has built. No, I don't train there, but I do feel like a part of the family.

Most people that drop by are looking to get into shape, but if you've ever wanted to compete in the combat arena, and you live on the north side of Austin, this is where you should start. They have a very strong fight team headlined by UFC fighter/sniper Tim Kennedy. His presence attracts other random semi-famous fighters so the opportunity to tell your friends you got you butt handed to you by a professional cage fighter can and will happen, if that appeals to you. But don't be intimidated by that. There is no pressure to fight, and like I said the vast majority of peeps are there to learn technique and get into shape. The atmosphere is fun, humor is definitely embraced, and really as long as you don't act like an egotistical dick, you'll have a great time.
