Rude front desk staff and office manager, didn't care or understand that people need to have comparisons when evaluating the best PCP for them. I asked very politely in follow up exchanges to please keep my appointment but it was canceled and I was not told of it. Why is Dr Bernens so insecure with having patients find the best option for them? Plenty of doctors would be comfortable and confident in their ability and wouldn't resort to these childish tactics. Look elsewhere is my best advice to you.

He will order tests you or he feel will help diagnose an issue and refers his patients to good specialty doctors. It does sadden me that he won't take calls or respond to texts except to say you need to come into the office to discuss labs, tests or any health questions. What I do like is that our office visits are never rushed because he spends whatever time is necessary to complete a visit. Thank you Dr. Bernens for your care. I have even referred a few friends to his practice.

I went to see Dr. O'Regan yesterday for a new patient exam. I indicated to the scheduling staff…read morethat I was experiencing severe neck and shoulder pain and needed to see the doctor. It has always been my understanding through the Anthem Blue Cross HMO system that if a patients wants a referral to a specialist, they can do so, but first must meet with their PCP. So while at first Dr. O'Regan seemed friendly, towards the end of my very short 15-minute appointment, she managed to leave a very bad first impression. So much so that I sat on the exam table in utter disbelief that a doctor of her "maturity" could be so apathetic towards a patient. Before deciding to switch to another PCP, I asked myself these questions. What sort of doctor would refuse your request to see a specialist when you've stated you've had chronic joint pain? Instead, Dr. O'Regan said she's determine my pain was solely muscular and that I didn't need a referral. I have never had a PCP refuse my request for a referral. What sort of doctor would refuse to write a letter to your employer to request certain work area accommodations be made to reduce your muscular pain (chronic or not)? Again, this wasn't a difficult request and it certainly wouldn't have taken Dr. O'Regan more than a couple of minutes to write. What sort of doctor would refuse to answer questions of a concerned patient who asks for her doctor's professional advice? Instead, Dr. O'Regan said she didn't have time because she had a busy schedule and that answering my question would require me to make another appointment for an office visit! I even explained to her that I worked in SF and try to minimize the time away from work. The time it took for her to explain why she couldn't answer my questions was enough time to answer most of my concerns to begin with! I have NEVER had a doctor tell me she didn't have time for me. How can she be a doctor with this attitude? I also shared my negative experience with my work colleagues, friends, and husband and the consensus was that if Dr. O'Regan could be so cold by showing more concern about the number of patients she had to see in the day (that's managed healthcare for you!) rather than show empathy and concern for her patient sitting in front of her, she would be unlikely to show empathy or concern for me in the future. No problem here, Dr. O'Regan. I will gladly give up my spot on your exam table for the next unlucky patient who doesn't value her time as much as I do. Bye-bye

And the rest of the doctors at Walnut Creek Medical Group are just as knowledgable and friendly as well. The only bummer about Dr. O'regan is that she's tough to get into sometimes if you need a same-day or next-day appointment, but I still give her 5 stars because she's surrounded herself with great colleagues...and I've seen all five of them by now! IF she's even taking new patients these days, I'd recommend her in a second - she definitely knows what she's doing...

Dr. Chow-Kwan really takes the time to listen to you, asks excellent questions relating to your visit and is an all around great person and great Doctor. One of my favorite traits of Dr. Chow-Kwan is that she will not just refer to you to a specialist for a strange problem. Both my wife and I have had some strange, one-off (non-chronic) medical issues that Dr. Chow-Kwan has taken a keen interest in and treated wonderfully. I feel very comfortable with her care, methodology and experience. When Dr. Chow-Kwan is not there, you can feel comfortable seeing any of the other Doctors in the practice. They are all great and in the same league with Dr. Chow-Kwan. The office is always well staffed, works out digital prescriptions with you favorite pharmacy, is courteous and will work with you to get you in if you are sick. Oh, and one other thing, I have never had a Doctor call me after a trip to the ER until I joined Dr. Chow-Kwan's practice. I seem to end up in the ER more often then the average (but again, for one-off strange items!) and when Dr. Chow-Kwan called me to follow up, I was blow away. I highly recommend Dr. Chow-Kwan and would be happy to talk more with anyone considering a great Family Practice and Internal Medicine Doctor off line. Just drop me a note!

On the third call, the receptionist hung up on me before I was able to get a clear understanding of what was needed. We will be sending our patient elsewhere, due to the lack of interest to care for a potential patient; whom we really care for and are trying to find solutions for.

She also sees patients twice a week for non-operative care for elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle issues at BASS Medical Group Shadelands Walnut Creek. Her sub-specialty is sports medicine and sports related injuries. I was impressed at how extremely thorough Dr. Romero is during her examinations, making sure to completely evaluate patient injuries. It is especially impressive that she queries patient history, asking questions that other MDs have never previously asked. Not only does Dr. Romero ask questions, but she also listens attentively and responsively as patients respond. How refreshing that an esteemed MD emphasizes patient-centered care and values and respects patients in order to focus on understanding their individual needs. In the end, I appreciated that Dr. Romero referred me to an equally amazing colleague, who specialized in my particular issue. I was able to re-visit Dr. Romero's office for a follow up as well. Front desk staff are professional, both in-person and on the phone, and extremely efficient at checking in patients while balancing office duties. The office is at Entrance D, which is located toward the middle of the medical building, right next to the Urgent Care Suite E entrance. Park in front of the building for a shorter walk, although there is plenty of parking throughout the large parking lot.
