Super nice guy and very knowledgeable - at least about bio mechanic issues. I've seen 4 podiatrists in SF, and some are just sooo bad. He doesn't compare with most others. My only issue is that at the St. Francis Hospital location the facility fees for seeing him were outrageous. $100 one visit and around $400 the other visit. This is on top of his fee. I'll never understand these crazy high facility fees. Insurance covered it, but it's still BS. read more

I went to see Dr Valmassy several times over the years. He was very helpful to me. Sadly he passed away from cancer in 2021.

Looking for a competent doctor with a great bedside manner? Got foot issues? Look no further. Dr. Valmassy is one of very few doctors who you wouldn't mind spending time with. He is very patient, knowledgeable, and explains things in lay terms. Recently I had foot surgery operated on by Dr. Valmassy which was performed at St. Francis "come & go" outpatient unit. I'm happy to say the outcome was very successful. Follow up appointments are never rushed, and 9 times out of 10, I've never had to wait. He takes as long as he thinks he needs to analyze and treat your issue. My daughter started seeing Dr. Valmassy when she was in grade school. She's now an working adult. He doesn't seem to age, and he's still a lot of miles to go. And he's an avid S.F. Giants fan. read more

I have been going to Dr. Valmassy since 2008 or so and he was the best podiatrist. Dr. V was incredibly knowledgeable and the nicest person. Unfortunately, his office confirmed on 2/14/20 that Dr. Valmassy retired in Dec. 2019. read more

I should have listened to him. I didn't. Lesson learned. Go to him. Listen to him. {Oh, and btw, all the malpractice lawyers say he's the best. If you want to find a great doctor, talk to malpractice lawyers....they know the scoop on everyone in town.} read more

Dr. Valmassy is wonderful, but the staff up front unfriendly, not returning calls. I could not pay my bill at the desk. I had to research how to pay the doctor and the hospital the bill as they did not burdened updating my address I have given them during the time of visit. 1750.00 dollars later, I would expect better services. I am not sure that the staff of St. Francis is good for your reputation. I have to pay out of my pocket and for that kind of money I would like much better treatment! read more

The one star is for Dr Valmassy's assistant. I had to call 8 times to get the prescription for physical therapy that Dr. Valmassy had ordered. Dr. Valmassy also ordered an MRI, and the front desk staff at the MRI facility felt so badly for me that they offered to call her and have the thing faxed over to their offices. No return call. Finally, I reached the assistant one day. I re-explained the situation. She started to elevate her voice, saying she sent it last week (she had not), and refused to consider sending it via FedEx. I left a VM for Dr. Valmassy explaining the situation. He called me back, apologized, and I got the FedEx the following day. He likely is a great podiatrist, but I am not sure I will continue to see him as the medical assistant is so incompetent. It just makes getting things done such a challenge. read more

Dr Valmassy is awesome! I was referred to him by Dr Sanders when she was fully booked and I desperately needed an appt with a podiatrist. My left foot had started to hurt the morning I was leaving for Istanbul and while I was not expecting to find a doctor that could see me last minute, I was very hopeful. Thanks to the wonderful assistant that answered my phone and squeezed me into Dr Valmassy's fully booked schedule. 30 minutes later I found out that I had a stress fracture and my foot was tightly wrapped and I was off for the airport. Oh and there's a sports medicine shop conveniently located across the street from St Francis Memorial hospital where you can buy orthopedic shoes (gotta love those), tape, canes, gel spacers, etc. You name it! read more

Dr. Valmassy was very knowledgeable and helpful. My foot pain turned out to be a coping mechanism for knee instability, but he also diagnosed other potential future problem that I have since noticed in other family members. I am grateful that he helped me prevent these problems. I would certainly sent any friends or family members in need for podiatry advice to his office. The office staff was very courteous and helpful, I was having serious foot pain and was leaving town in 2 days when I call and they really help me by squeezing me in. I was surprised of so many complaints regarding the billing practices. When I received my bill I did noticed an error, i called the 1-800 listed on the bill and the error was promptly taken care of (well promptly is within 30 days but that is pretty normal I found with medical billings). That is good customer service in my book. read more

Wow, this guy is amazing!!! Came in with some post knee surgery issues---joint pain from where some tissue was repaired. He fitted me with orthodox that have helped the tenderness in my knee and corrected and an issue I had with my back as a result of a thoracic injury. I was most impressed with the way he deals with his patients. He listens like he really cares, offers real sage medical advice and spends hands on time guiding you through the process. I wish all docs were like Dr. Valmassy). He is also seeing a friend of mine who was miss diagnosed by another doc, only to find out form Dr. V recently that he has had a pressure fracture in his foot for the last year. I agree with a couple of the other yelps that the reception desk seems a bit overwhelmed and takes a while to get back to you...but representing top docs like this can't be easy--lots of people trying to get in. read more

This guy is absolutely spectacular - perhaps the best medical professional I've ever been to. He is personable, knowledgeable, and insightful and is truly passionate about his job and it shows. I walked away with a much greater understanding of what I needed to do to rid myself of a nasty case of plantar fasciitis and after following his diligent methodology; I am one happy camper with no issues. I feel strongly that if you have any foot-related issues/injuries that you absolutely can't find a better person to go to than Dr. V. read more

Dr. Valmassy is incredible. If you are looking for an experienced, professional, PATIENT, knowledgeable podiatrist, look NO further. I have terrible feet and I've encountered my share of foot-related problems. For years, my hammertoes caused me a great deal of discomfort. Finally, I was referred to Doctor Valmassy (from another podiatrist at St Francis Sports Medicine). Dr. Valmassy has operated on both of my feet and, I must say, despite the stories I've heard about "operations gone wrong" I am absolutely elated with my results. I can RUN .. without pain. I can wear most shoes -- without pain & I can be as active as I want to be - without pain. Doctor Valmassy is an excellent listener and addresses all concerns and questions in a professional, appropriate & THOROUGH manner. You never feel "rushed during office visits;" he spends as much time with his patients as is required. Infact, a few years back, after my first of two surgeries, I thought I had a pin tract infection. Dr. Valmassy did a HOME visit, during the "WEEKEND" - to ensure everything was okay. What more could you ask for??? If ONLY they could clone Doctor Valmassy .. ahh, what a great world it would be. I CANNOT say enough wonderful things about him; he's definitely one of the best --- he's TRULY a rockstar. read more

The best! Dr. Valmassy is knowledgeable, timely, & funny. He's taken care of my messed up feet for a few years now. The custom orthotics he has me wear allow me to run without pain! Thank you, Dr. Valmassy. read more

Dr Ronald Valmassy is the best in the business when it comes to the foot, but unfortunately I have received word that he has retired December 2019. read more

5 Stars for the doctor. 0 Stars for the billing practices. Just know that if you see Dr. Valmassy, you may get higher out of pocket costs just because he is part of the hospital vs. in private practice. I found that out the hard way when I received a bill. read more

Professional staff, knowledgable doctor. The doctor listened to my foot complaint patiently, watched my gait down the hall, and explained the different possible causes for my complaint with a foot model. I appreciated how kind and polite he was, and all the information he gave. read more

Dr Valmassy himself was great. His admin staff needs review. I put in an order, and when I didn't hear back I assumed that they forgot and I let it go. Next thing I know I'm getting a bill for hundreds of dollars. They didn't bother to tell me that placed my order or that it had arrived. I hadn't even received what I bought, just a bill. I have been going back and forth over the billing for nearly a year. They keep submitting to my old insurance. I have had several phone conversations with them over it, have written letters, have provided my new insurance information twice, and they keep billing my old insurance and letting me know that the claim was denied. I keep getting bills, and now they aren't even returning my calls to discuss. read more

Love Dr. Valmassy but the front office staff are cold and every time I come here I end up waiting to be seen for at least an hour. 2 out of the 3 times I've been here they are running late and my appt ends up taking 2.5+ hours. read more

Dr. Valmassy is competent and has a good bedside manner. His office staff leaves a lot to be desired however. I saw him twice, and both times, they were too lazy to accept my payment in the office, saying "oh, you'll be sent a bill don't worry". WTF? Suffice to say, I was in the process of moving and those bills got lost and now I'm having a hard time tracking down who to pay. Plus, his office copays are more expensive than most other doctors. read more

Dr. Valmassy is great! I had gone to other podiatrists in SF for my foot pain, and they all wanted me to spend hundreds of dollars getting new orthotics to fix the problem, which Dr. Valmassy said was not the problem to begin with. He had me try several other options to relieve the pain and all that without me spending more than my copay! He has a great bedside manner, easy to talk to, and is very straight forward and friendly. read more

Very friendly, and willing to talk with you on the phone in-between office visits whenever needed (which was incredibly helpful for me). Has a bit of a "set" sense of things, which was good to a point (he has helpful perspectives) but I felt like after a certain point that I needed to go to someone else, like I had gotten everything I could "out of him" in a sense. Helped me diagnose an unusual issue. But overall the problem is not improving as much as I'd like, and I intend to work with someone else to see if there are other things I can do to make it heal faster -- or perhaps me and Dr. Valmassy were doing as much as we could. Hard to tell so far. read more

Dr. Valmassy is wonderful, kind, professional, patient and extremely talented. We are a family of abnormal genetic issues and have been shuffled from doctor to doctor. Dr. Valmassy knows his profession; he has really worked to help improve our situation (Dr. Valmassy was referred to us by one of his peers, who does not practice in the same medical group, town or hospital.) Dr. Valmassy has been delightful to both my children and myself. He teaches at several colleges and has written many books. Go on YouTube and you will find him! The only cons are billing. Very confusing. read more

My whole family loves Dr. Valmassy. He has been taking care of us since my husband was pushing a baby stroller- and now our 21 and 24 year old kids see him. I referred all my friends who also think he's the best. He has great bedside manner, is a terrific doctor and really spends time talking to you- even calls at night to check in. I don't think you could find a better doctor- and not just in this field. read more

I was referred to him by another podiatrist who had retired. I was pleased with his service a few years ago and just revisited him. He is a good listener and is knowledgeable. read more

Dr. Valmassy is good. Really good. He is kind, informative, and called past office hours to make sure I received requested updates. He may not immediately hold your hand/ gush to make you feel good - but when asked - Doc. Valmassy will take the time to address concerns (or in my case fears) and is very professional. *Sign in the office saying if you've waited more than 15 minutes to notify someone - and they listen. Not that I really needed it. **Bonus: Their receptionists are wonderful. I've listened to them manage some tough cookies at the check-in desk and they do a great job. HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

This guy is the best doctor I have ever been to. Efficiant, gives you the time you need and knows it all.

If you have bunion than Dr. V is your guy. he did such a good job remaking my foot in the operating room that it hardly hurt. he is literary the best and most knowegable specialty Doctor i have ever been to. i also did some research on him and he is considered to be the TOP pediatrist in the country. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. V's for at least the past 8 years. He's about as sincere, polite, & caring as Doctor's come. As a marathon runner I need my feet to behave. Without Dr. V's care, suggestions, advice, and extreme patience with my feet I wouldn't be running today. He helped my Plantar Fascitis, my metatarsals issues on both feet (ouch and double ouch), and is always willing to spend as much time as necessary to get me back out there pounding pavement. Any and all foot related ouchies should immediately be directed to Dr. Valmassy, you won't be disappointed. He's a gem! read more

Ok with medical stuff. Crappy billing. Cashed my cheque - but still send the bill to a collection agency. This is not the first time

Dr. Valmassy is a very nice man and from reading most of the reviews a good doctor, but that was not my experience. On the first visit he was very attentive and told me my sprained ankle would be fine. It did not heal so he took an MRI and said I had torn ligament, then prescribed a boot, and still everything will be fine. 2 weeks later when my ankle was not healing he seemed confused or had forgotten what the MRI showed, forgot to mention I should have been soaking my foot until I asked, and was just so laid back, everything will be fine. Finally I went to another doctor and they told me I had broken my foot and needed to be entirely non weight bearing for awhile. When I read the MRI for myself it was explicit and is a lesson for me - always ask to have a copy of the report to take home and study. I feel like I lost a month of valuable healing time and hope I did not do more damage to my foot. read more

Dr. Valmassy was nice and took his time with me. Unfortunately it took several weeks for him to call me back after an X-ray. I never have that problem at UCSF. Not sure if it was his staff that didn't give him the messages or what he simply blew me off. That brings me to my second point. The staff is ghetto, rude and lazy. Just calling to schedule an appointment is annoying. If they don't want to work why are they there? The staff will definitely keep me away from that place! Going to stick with UCSF and just wait for the appointment next time. read more

Dr Valmassy is an awesome guy and a great doctor. He is very patient and really listens to you. I like that he very well understands the perspective of an athlete and the importance of performance, training schedules, races, etc. He is also very pragmatic and will give you a very candid appraisal of the pros and cons of different approaches. The guys also has some sort of magic touch with orthotics. 5 stars without hesitation. read more

Dr. Valmassy is awesome. He fixed my toes and they have been great ever since.

First time visit at the St Francis Hospital and after I read the reviews I said to give a try to Dr, Valmassy. At the first visit he spent an hour with me understanding my problem and give me actually a couple of different things to do than the previous Dr. I have a tendonitis in my ankle that hasn't show any improvement for the past 4 months with a lot of physical therapy and daily exercise and ice in order to make it stronger and recover as soon as possible. In this visit I felt the confidence from Dr Valmassy that I have a doctor that can actually help me and probably make me skip the surgery. He told me that what ever we do we will discuss about a surgery after 6 months with the things that we will do. Anyhow he told me to visit him back in a week even though I didn't understand what kind of improvement I can have in a week that I didn't have in the past 3 months now. For this visit he checked my MRI, gave me pads for my shoes and a few more things. A week after and of course not much to report as any improvement he start telling me totally different things and actually not showing much energy to even spent an hour of our visit. After 30min of actually telling that we need to think about a surgery I left the office. How and why and what happen is still a mystery but he gives me a very clear image about what is going on. First visit you have the support, understanding and the hope of being with a doctor that actually might care for you. Second visit told me totally different things than the first time and not even a week later at least to remember what he said in the first time. Big disappointment. read more

Dr. Valmassy is along the lines of what one might think all doctors should be: bright, talented, caring, polished, personable, funny, energetic, gentle, detailed, an educator, a great listener, patient, humble.... My feet adore him. Why wouldn't they? I was about to win yet another best feet contest against my older sis when she stopped the fun and games by pointing out a red bump forming on the side of my left foot. She told me I had better have it checked out immediately. Then, Dr. Valmassy -stepped- in and saved the day with a lifetime of advice for how to care for my tender feet. While he kindly set the story straight against decades of foot compliments and made it clear that under no terms would I ever qualify to be a foot model, a tad disappointed, I only ended up adding "honest" to his long list of attributes. Over the years, Dr. Valmassy has taken time to examine my feet more thoughtfully and thoroughly than other podiatrists, saving me added grief and relieving long term compensatory knee pain. He has talked to me about body mechanics and stretches, crafted custom orthodics for my dress shoes as well as my athletic shoes, discussed options for my foot concerns in depth, helped prevent further aggravation from a serious foot stubbing incident...and all the while, he remembers to ask about my dad--whose own feet adore him just as much as my own. I would -foot- the bill for his expert services and care any day. read more

He is accessible and unpretentious (unlike many doctors). read more
