This is a group of self-organized volunteers that routinely camp out on streets across Manhattan…read morelate at night (i.e., 11pm -2am), several times a month to hand out supplies to the homeless. Nothing wrong with helping the needy. But here are the problems I've experienced first-hand, and why this is probably the most tone-deaf and destructive charity to the local communities in Manhattan: 1) Illegal and RECKLESS parking and set-up on public streets: They come to my block on the Upper East Side with 3-5 large vans, and draw large crowds of homeless people (who are not from the local neighborhood. I know because I would recognize those guys). They set up their vans and food stands literally several FEET OFF the exit of E 59th St highway (why??), thereby blocking the entire street and making it impossible for cars speeding down from the highways to pass through. I've confirmed their reckless parking/set-up is NON-PERMITTED and NYPD had to move them 2) TRASHING THE STREET / USING THE CITY AS A DUMPING GROUND: They come in from Dobbs Ferry, and use the city as a dumping ground in the name of "doing charity." The organization ends up trashing the whole street with every visit. In the morning after, there are always litter, spilled food and drinks, paper plates and cups, tons of filth on the streets and in front of my apartment building. 3) Invading PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY and causing DISTURBANCES: I live in a 5-story, typical UES walk up. My street is quiet and lined with other residential buildings. It's a quaint street and people are usually home / in bed by midnight or 1am. These volunteer mofos literally set up their stands OUTSIDE the apartment building doors, directly IN and BLOCKING the walk way of an apartment building - as if the charity OWNS the building. As a result, I have 20-30 homeless people gathering and loitering outside my apt building into the wee hours of the night - and they're not quiet either. There are PLENTY of other more spacious streets/avenues nearby, with commercial buildings that are closed for the night, where they can go. 4) CREATED HOSTILITY IN MY COMMUNITY: Their operations often invite hostile homeless people who are NOT directly from my local neighborhood. As mentioned above, because Midnight Run chooses to set up their operations right in front of a residential building, homeless men and professional PANHANDLERS often end up loitering RIGHT outside my apt doorway. One mofo who was not homeless, but asking for handouts, even yelled racial slurs as I was trying to enter my building ("Go back to Korea!" (not Korean) while he was standing in my home. And guilting me with such remarks as, "You have a condo while these people are homeless!" also while he was standing in my home.) 5) People running this operation are TARGETING THE WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD andIGNORANT of the homeless epidemic pervading the city: If you want to help and truly make an IMPACT to a neighborhood, set up your operations somewhere people actually NEED HELP (i.e., South Bronx) - or drop off your supplies or SET UP YOUR OPERATIONS DIRECTLY OUTSIDE A HOMELESS SHELTER, OR A PUBLIC PARK...and NOT an UES residential building . In addition to a place to shower, get haircuts, job training and a whole host of other services, they offer people a sense of dignity, a place to connect and to learn and grow. People come in from all walks of life and undoubtedly have their histories, many of which include trauma. Here they can start walking their path to connection, learn how to move past isolation and get the support they need to learn to love themselves. POTS may be the beginning for some, but it is a place that can help guide people to where they need to go with the right patience and understanding that change is a process but can absolutely happen. The staff is dedicated and caring. The executive director Christina Hanson is one of the most dedicated leaders toward helping those in need, and is excellent administratively which is rare in human services. What goes on at POTS is pretty amazing.

The need is immense in todays trying and expensive times. In addition to that they are helping to avoid clothing going into landfills. After volunteering here I will kindly recommend that you wash all clothing before donating. Volunteers will sort through to make sure only clothing with no rips/stains move on to be donated. All other clothing gets sent to a facility to be used in textile recycling or thrift store use which the organization receives money for so they can purchase much needed clothing items.

When they sent a nurses aid, she couldnt do the work, and when i told hospice this, the woman who sent the aid became very defensive, and retaliating. I was very upset with the lack of care and professionalism. In my fathers case, they ordered a bunch of old equipment that was not needed and then the company sends huge bills for thousands of dollars, and make threats to place liens on bank accounts and property....what a scam. Never in my whole life have i Experienced such a terrible organization that had ties with another company where they order used medical equipment without any concent or authorization on equipment that was old and not required, yet hospice ordered it and then we get hit with insane bills and threats of liens when there was clearly no reason to send this stuff in the first place by hospice. Then hospice left right afterwards and the equipment was never picked up for over 10 months and both organizations failed to or intentionally left this equipment in order to run up a huge bill without any notice of any issues regarding payments or understanding of what was going on up until now. The same used type of equipment can be found on ebay for anywhere between 10 to 100 bucks or less....what a scam.

My loved one's family selected Hospice Care of Westchester and Putnam as their home hospice provider with the guidance of Hudson Valley Hospital Center Words cannot express the level of care and concern exhibited by every individual connected with this organization. From the Nurses who visited daily, to the medical supply company that was used by the service, every single person treated not just the patient, but the entire family with such genuine human kindness that it astounded me. Every single employee I encountered was professional, efficient, and most of all, compassionate. If you ever have an occasion to utilize a home hospice provider, I can say with confidence that you will have the best possible experience with this service that a home hospice service can provide. On behalf of myself and my loved one's family, I'd like to thank everyone at Hospice Care of Westchester and Putnam for their care and compassion during a very difficult and trying time. You all made it easier to deal with a very challenging life event.

In the end, it not only wasted our time and thousands of dollars, but most distressing, we got stuck with a nanny who made us and our daughter deeply unhappy for several months. My husband and I were trying to secure a nanny, and the first that we hired through Family Helpers had misled us on a few critical items. It turned out the nanny did NOT want to work with a newborn, showed up reeking of cigarettes, and was mean to our daughter. We asked Family Helpers to send us more candidates. Family Helpers repeatedly sent us candidates who could not meet our scheduling or budget needs. In short: * Family Helpers' vetting failed as it sent us a nanny unwilling to work with 2 kids * Family Helpers' vetting failed as it sent us a candidate unwilling to work within our discussed budget (i.e., less than $25/hour) * FamilyHelpers' vetting failed as it sent us a candidate unwilling to work the hours that we stated we were looking for * FamilyHelpers' vetting failed as it recommended a nanny who could not detect something was off when our daughter, who she had gotten to know over 8 weeks, lay on the couch for hours with a very high fever. Additionally, we were frustrated at Family Helper's guidance to increase our budget to $25/hr, which is 25%-33% more than peers using Family Helpers service, what several strong candidates we evaluated were willing to accept, or what we see online. Even more hurtful, Family Helpers blamed us for not being clear about the hours / pay, even when faced with email evidence to the contrary. After weeks and weeks of no good candidates, Family Helpers audaciously recommended we simply fire the current (bad) nanny, with no coverage at all. I was flabbergasted--what kind of plan was this, for two working parents? In the end, we found a few wonderful nannies through friends. My husband and I requested a substantial refund given Family Helpers failed to send vetted candidates that met our criteria and we paid $1,600 severance to one of their nannies, but Family Helpers refused. Family Helpers refunded us 50% of our fee, whereas we thought 95% would have been appropriate. I am a big supporter of local businesses, but I am a bigger advocate for the parents and families in my community. It is for this reason I share our recent experience with Family Helpers.

I would never recommend Family Helpers to help find someone to care for the most treasured people in the world to us, our children. In addition, Susan charges a consultation fee and their consultation services were a falasy!! Everything Susan said during her limited "consultation" did not match the qualities the nannies portrayed or the expectations the nannies had during the interview!! Run as fast as you can!!!

The food is healthy, it is free, and it is plentiful. Feeding Westchester is a phenomenal organization; they will steward us through whatever difficulties life should throw at us.
