Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2017 When my then fiancé now husband purchased our home nearly eight years ago, our realtor had our locks replaced and used Romy's Lock & Key (this is when they still had a brick and mortar shop). I remember going to their shop when it was still open and needing luggage locks and a gate lock for our front gate- customer service was helpful and friendly. They no longer have their brick and mortar shop but help isn't far away- you can call them and they will help you out of any jam :) My neighbor frantically called me today when I was getting a pedicure and asked for help. I knew of Romy's Lock & Key because I familiar with their shop near my house. I didn't know the shop had closed a few years ago and now the service is mobile only, but mobile is what I needed, so it was perfect for me. After reading the Yelp reviews, I called late Thursday afternoon to set up an appointment to get my locks changed. Dan showed up first thing on Friday morning and was in and out in under a half an hour. A friend had warned me how expensive it would be to change the locks and Dan charged me less than half of what I expected. He was professional, friendly and did a great job. My friend who referred me to Romy's was referred by her realtor a number of years ago. I called over the weekend and was able to set up an appointment within a couple of days. Dan arrived right on time and fixed us right up: - re-keyed 5 locks - installed 2 new door knobs (included in the re-key) - gave us two extra keys Now instead of three different keys, we have ONE! I've used Romy's four times in 20+ years. Each time they did the job quickly and for a reasonable price. This time Dan advised me how to replace the lock cylinder on a sliding glass door myself. Last time my deadbolt was broken and missing parts. He repaired it and now it is a good as new. I'm really happy, because the brand isn't made any more, and if he couldn't have fixed it I would have had to carry two keys or replace all the locks in my house. Front door project - remove door lock, repaint door, re-install door lock ...oops, it's a Schlage! Call a few locksmiths, it's after 5 and the virus crap. Get referred to Dan, at Romy's. It's now 6PM, so I schedule him for Friday AM. He arrives on time, checks out my lock, and discovers I ruined the lock in my beastly attempt to "make it fit". He's now on the phone calling in all his network to find a new lock, which shows on eBay for $900. Ouch...he keeps calling. He finds exact need at Baker's lock & key, used but in better shape than my old Schlage. I run to Bakers get lock, text Dan and he's at my home minutes after I get back from buying the lock. 10 minutes and he's installed the door lock, punched me 8 keys, and is on his way to another family to save their day/week. My family is thoroughly impressed with his response to our situation, his knowledge of the Schlage systems and his commitment to get our front door fixed, quickly, inexpensively and properly. I called Romy's and set up an appt to fix an entry deadbolt lock mfg'd by Weslock (sp). Dan showed up on time and went right to work. His van was full of tools and supplies -- reminded me of the Tardis -- unassuming at first, but when you peek in -- a full blown locksmith's shop. I could tell that Dan was no fly by night matchbook trained locksmith, but a well seasoned (but not salty) locksmith. My job for him was mundane I'm sure, but that was good. Advice: If possible, bring your lock to Romy's shop & save mucho $. Advice2: If you're installing or replacing new locks, avoid Weslock. read more

The only reason I'm not 5-star'ing here is that even though we had called a week prior (and then again the day prior), the day we needed his service, Dan wasn't sure if he'd be able to fit us in. Dan was awesome. We had a key get stuck in a non-standard lock on our front door. At first he thought he might be able to come by the next morning (I was calling him in the early afternoon) but he took my number and said he would call if he was available earlier. He called about an hour later and was working on our lock 30 mins after that. The lock we have is weird, not the usual Schlage, Bladwin, Kwikset, but an Italian brand that's no longer made. Amazingly, he knew about it and actually had a lock core in his truck from one that he used to show how the mechanism worked. He was able to get the key released and checked and lubricated the lock mechanism. Nothing was broken luckily and everything checked out. Not sure what happened, but very glad Dan was able to come by and fix the issue. He was also able to make us a new set of keys for the lock since the original keys we had were poorly cut (getting hung from time to time when turning) at the local hardware store. He punched us a new set, not using the grind/cut but rather measuring the actual depth of the notches and punch-cutting a clean copy at the correct depth and position. We had an incident and needed to re-key the entire house ASAP. Called the landlord and he told us to call Romy's which was near by/ We called them Sunday morning around 10:30 AM and Dan answered immediately. I appreciate Romy's because they have a real storefront (next to the Post Office on Branham near Alamaden), unlike many locksmiths who (understandably) work strictly from vans and home shops. I had removed the cylinder from a lock and messed it up. They made the cylinder work again and the charge was quite reasonable. It's a father-son team, the dad minds the store while the son works in the field.
