You would be surprised how difficult it is to find a locksmith competent enough to make you a new smart key. Many, many locksmiths told me that I had to go to the dealer to get a new key made for my 2014 Ford Focus electric. Along comes John, who is both competent and has the programming machine. He told me that a used key off eBay could be reprogrammed to work on my car. I spent $50 on eBay for the part and $95 to have it programmed. John charges $125 to drive out to you to make the key, or $95 if you go out to him. Note that different models might be more/less/not possible. We spent about 30 minutes sitting in my car (the programming machine makes you wait). The key works, John was a great person to talk to during those 10 minute waiting periods, and I saved a couple hundred bucks by not listening to other locksmiths. read more

I wish I had done this sooner. We had been using our broken fob key to open doors the old-fashioned way for about two years. It's no fun always needing to open the driver's side door first, especially when you have a toddler or groceries. I kept putting it off because I feared how much the dealer would charge for a new fob (or two). I finally contacted Jon at A&A Locksmith. He told me to purchase replacement fob keys online and that he could definitely cut them and program them. The best! Jon is quick and responsive, and has the best prices that I've asked around. I had to get my 2016 Prius C smart key reprogrammed for the second time (Jon also helped me out the first time). All I had to do was to buy a new or reprogrammed to virgin smart key. He met up with me at my work and was able to get it reprogrammed within 20 minutes and also able to cut that little key attached to the smart key.
