Today I was driving north on Milwaukee Avenue when we drove on past and noticed that they were having their auction tonight (Wednesday). I have been to their auction before, but it's been several years since I have been by there. On the first & third Wednesday of the month they hold these auctions. You go in the day of the auction and peruse the stuff that's available. All the items are numbered sequentially, if it's something that you're interested in you can go back @ 6pm to midnight when the auction begins & ends. They go sequentially in numerical order so if it's a low number you can make a bid buy it and go, but if it's a higher number you could be there pretty late. You know what they say? One man's junk is another man's treasure. Most of the stuff is the former, but once in awhile you can find some cool items. A few years ago we were looking for casual seating for our basement & found a nice black cushy chair. This chair was numbered 102 so I had to hang around to bid on it. I ended up having the winning bid and got the chair for $20. They also buy out storage lockers from people that abandon their items and neglect to pay the storage charges. From what I was told they bid on the lot sight unseen. If they have the winning bids they take the whole lot and sell it at these auctions on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday's of the month. I ended up buying a lot of cool martial art weapons. I have this morbid fascination with knives & weapons. I bought this box with throwing knives, shurikens (throwing stars), nunchucks, and a gigantic Rambo Bowie knife. I am now the proud owner of all this weaponry that I never use. Like I said most of the stuff isn't necessary, but I wanted it. They also have collectors that really know the value of items. One such bid ended up being hotly contested for some little dolls & another collection was pretty much neglected with very low bids. You also need to know your prices. There was a tree pruner with an extension handle that allows you to trim branches high up in the tree. I wanted this for the trees in my yard, but I checked online to see the price of a new one. When the bid prices started to pass the price of this used tree pruner I decided to withdraw from the bidding.
