The Barn at King Hill Farm

The Barn at King Hill Farm

I came to this venue for an event recently. The event was in the evening so it was dark when I…read morearrived. There was not a lot of light driving up the long entrance to get to the venue. There was some parking in the lot near the venue but when I arrived most the spaces were taken so I had to park along the side of the entrance. The venue looked like a large wood barn and was spacious. There was an upper and lower level, a stage, a bar area, tables, and chairs. It seems like a good space to have an event or reception.

Beautiful venue, but unfortunately a very difficult experience with the owner…read more Summary: - our experience with the owner, Debbie Cobb, made what should have been one of the happiest days of our lives incredibly stressful and upsetting. -The venue's access restrictions also made decorating and cleaning up unnecessarily difficult. -If you are planning a wedding where alcohol--particularly spirits--is an important part of your reception, I would not recommend this venue based on our experience. We encountered alcohol-related restrictions and requirements that we did not understand to be clearly outlined in our contract or communicated during the planning process. -Our issue was the lack of clear communication about those policies and the way they were enforced after we had already been told that everything was in order. Couples should not have to discover important restrictions on their wedding day or after signing a contract. -At one point, she (the owner) went through bags in the bridal suite, and one of my bridesmaids actually caught her going through them. At the end of the night, she also stood over members of the bridal party while they packed up their personal belongings. -issues involving the owner' son (Seth Cobb), who was an uninvited guest at our wedding. He was in the parking lot approaching and questioning our guests and looking into people's vehicles. Several guests were uncomfortable because they did not know who he was or why he was doing this. -Debbie (owner) later helped herself to food from our charcuterie table with her bare hands and took coffee from our coffee station. -The cumulative effect of these repeated encounters became so overwhelming that I ended up crying on my own wedding day. My being upset also delayed the time we had set aside to take photographs with our families. By the time we were able to move forward, the reception was already beginning, so our photography time had to be cut short. As a result, I am now missing photographs with certain family members--moments that cannot be recreated or brought back. -I understand that owning a wedding venue comes with responsibilities and that protecting the property and enforcing reasonable rules is important. However, there is a significant difference between enforcing policies and making couples, their families, and their guests feel unwelcome, distrusted, or as though they are constantly being monitored and treated like a problem. -The venue itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, for us, the experience was not worth it. A wedding is an incredibly meaningful and once-in-a-lifetime event, and couples should be able to communicate with their venue owner without feeling like a burden or feeling that they have to constantly defend themselves, their family, or their guests.
