Absolutely the best Italian subs I have tried in A LONG TIME. Let's start by saying that I was born…read moreand lived most of my early youth in Philadelphia, but I was now living in Maryland. I go to Philly sometimes for sport events (Eagles and Phillies) and I always buy cheesesteaks and hoagies at different places to get a taste of who is the best among the many. This time I decided to find places in the Wilmington and New Castle area--after reading many reviews, Gaudiello's Italian Hoagies was the one spot that caught my attention so my wife and I went for it. When you walk in, the place was very clean, and the person at cash register taking the orders was extremely nice and went out of his way to accommodate our orders. I asked for (to take) four different cheesesteaks and one hoagie; all the subs were properly labeled with the ingredients we ordered on each separate order. When I tried my cheesesteak and my hoagie at home, I was blown away by the amazing taste and quality of the meat (cheesesteak was made with ribeye meat and the hoagie with prime Italian ham), and the bread was SUPERB! For next occasions going up north, I'm ONLY stoping at Gaudiello's.

We ended up ordering two Italian hoagies and two cheesesteaks, as well as a side of fries with ranch. The fries were incredible - I'd go back just for them. Welp, I had to be on a fishing boat drinking a cold one at 12 so this wouldn't work. I called Harper's and they said to call back in the morning and place the order - no problem - and pick up when ready. Needless to say, I placed my order, picked up a variety of subs, got to the boat, cracked a cold one, and had a pretty damn good sub. I ordered 5 for the others on the boat and because they were so packed, we couldn't eat them all so bonus, I brought one home. Everyone loved the turkey and Italian subs, packed dry, with a bunch of stuff on the side. Don't overlook this place. They also make breakfast so that will be my next visit. I have been meaning to write this review for years. Memory and life get in the way. Sandwiches do…read morenot. Seagrave's has been feeding me and the good people of Salem with more care than many of us probably deserve. I have sung in a church nearby on occasion for nearly 30 years now and whenever Seagrave's caters our lunches the world feels a little less cruel. A great sub can do that. A cheesesteak even more so. The bread has the right balance of chew and give. The meat is tender and unapologetically plentiful. A sandwich from Seagrave's is not a snack. It is a declaration. You will be full and you will be happy about it. The subs are delicious and reliable, like an old friend who always shows up. The cheesesteaks are even better. Whoever decided that much beef and that much cheese should share the same roll should be awarded a medal. For half a century or more the Seagrave family made this little white concrete box on West Broadway into one of the best reasons to stop in Salem. Now it is under new management. You may worry that something this good could slip away. Do not worry. The family is still watching and still guiding and based on my most recent meal the sandwiches are as tremendous as ever. The building itself looks like nothing much. For years there was not even a sign. You had to know where to go and if you were lucky enough to know you went. Word of mouth was more than enough advertising because food like this does its own talking. So here is the advice. Put Seagrave's into your GPS. Park outside the plain white building. Step inside. Order a sub or better yet a cheesesteak. Watch them pile it high and then take the whole glorious thing back to your house or your car or your church hall. Take a bite. Life will not be perfect but it will be slightly better. Five stars. Always has been. Always will be.
