We kicked off our 4th of July bright and early with a fishing trip to Rollins Lake before heading to Ripley to catch the parade--and it couldn't have started the day off better! The whole fam-bam was out there by 7 a.m., lines in the water as soon as we could get them in. About 30 minutes in, our middle child--who ALWAYS seems to be the first to catch something--reeled in the first fish. Not long after, our youngest caught one too, literally right after releasing the first! Then I got in on the action, followed by my husband. Our oldest was getting tons of bites but just couldn't land one. With only about 30 minutes left before we had to pack up for the parade, my husband gave him a tip and sent him to his go-to spot. Boom--fish on the line right away! He let that one go, cast again, and caught another within minutes. It was a perfect ending to our morning. Rollins Lake is such a fun spot to fish as a family. Bring chairs, sunscreen, hats, and don't forget snacks and drinks. The port-o-potties weren't bad at all, and there was plenty of parking too. We had a blast and will absolutely be coming back soon! read more

100% not the lakes fault but the way this lake is described in a paddling California book is almost exactly opposite of what it really is. Idyllic paddling and nice beach shores-no Abundant wildlife-no Loud music-yes Loud Harley like speed boats-yes Even louder jet skis-yes Overly crowded shores-yes Tons of wake making kayaking next to impossible-yes Do I think it's worth going? Our first visit to Rollins Lake . We had the best time ! Beautiful clear clean water , friendly staff , clean bathrooms . Our campsite was great . I did notice a lot of the other campsites were very steep. Which would be difficult to set up you tent. Other the that ZERO complaints . read more

Our new go to it's quiet not a lot of boats some good outcoves to go to and a couple sandy beach areas just to hang out on and take a break have a picnic and just enjoy. If your looking for a busy active party place this is not it I would say Head to Folsom otherwise perfect family place. read more

Friends and I paid for a campsite for 6 days . When I arrived there there is a gentleman at the gate that was very rude and was trying to overcharge me. We was renting a campsite for 6 days yet he wanted me to pay An additional $30 for a car and boat keeping mind we was paying for the campsite for 6 days. I asked to speak with someone else and he became very belligerent and said I can talk to anybody I want but he will let them know that I'm trying to work them. Makes u feel like ur in Tahoe coz of the trees and the beautiful water.took my bf here for a picnic for his Bday on a tuesday and it was peaceful and quiet. We had the whole place to ourselves! Beware of yellow jacket bees my dog got stung! Lots of mosquitos as expected, other than that its beautiful & pretty easy to get to. read more

Absolutely ridiculous! They wanna charge $14 for day use and $5 for each dog?! I understand maybe they can leave messes, but so can children! Why not charge extra for kids as well?! The water is murky and it's not even cold anyways! read more

Went here for the first time last week with our boat. It's a beautiful lake and a nice change of scenery, from the typical Folsom Lake atmosphere. I love all the trees at this lake, it wasn't too crowded either. Will definitely be back soon! read more

A good friend of mine took me to the Lake in October. I spent 5 days and 4 nights in Grass Valley at this beautiful vacation home. So we take the speed boat onto the lake, and he gives me the wheel casually and says drive. He looks at me like I'm going to be timid and go pretty slow on the water, but I push the lever forward all the way and then my new addiction is born. OH MY GOD. I was boating at 50 mph and was going so fast on the water that my head was spinning in delight. I was turning and weaving and making figure eights. FAST, EXHILIRATING, JAMES BOND kinda excitement. I was hooked. I stayed on the lake for 1 -2 hrs until the gas ran out. I brought us lunch on the boat...it was a great day. We were the only ones on the lake on this sunny and beautiful day. Spent five hours out on the water with my wife. Amazing day. Beautiful scenery. Clean facilities. Courteous boaters.

I cannot go into town and NOT come to Rollins Lake. My favorite lake. Great for boating, tubing, wake boarding. It's wonderful. The greenhorn access gate has a general store, a volleyball sand pit, camping, boat launch and day spots. The swimming area has a little shade with some tables but there is also a little plastic floating dock out in the water. Great for kids to play on or to TAN on when there aren't any kids. Also if your boating you HAVE to go out to the sand bar! Very shallow, very far out. Anchor your boat and sit in the water with your cooler, it's AMAZING. read more

We stayed 1 night at Rollins Lake. It was a week night so it wasn't crowded but we were warned by a couple of different people that it gets SUPER crowded and loud on the weekends. There aren't many trees at the lake side camp sites so it looks rather barren. At $38 a night it is a bit steep in price. The upside is they had a local BBQ guy serving up some tasty grub for $8 a plate and his food was very good. The showers are clean and there was no line since it was a week night trip. It was nice and quiet at night and we awoke to a nice view of the lake, well rested and ready to hit the road again! read more

i would to inform you guys of my experience here. The commmunity here is not so friendly, if you believe racistism is gone then you clearly haven't been here. Yesterday (5/31/2017) when we arrived here we were confronted by multiple white folks. They asked why we were here, and that our kind werent welcomed here. The main issue is definitely the locals, i advise you not go here ( colfax) in general if you aren't white because clearly they are the only ones welcome. Not happy. Went there, today, with boat. Pay my 15 bucks,(in honor box) and when I took my boat to the water, to launch,,,,,,NO water! (Down about 30-40 feet).No way was I going to put my boat in. Would have been nice to see that on glass, before I paid. Now, I lost my money. WILL NOT go back, unless they do give me my money. I was there a whole 15 minutes. read more

I did not received freebie or anything else, I am writing this comments to warn other who would like to rent a boat from Greenhorn boat rentals. I don't have anything bad to say about Greenhorn picnic or campground; it was not the best or the worst place to visit especially if you have kids. However, do not rent boats from place because that was my bad experience just today and not only mine but also of five more people. We were charge today extra $85 (without tax) for damage to the boat propeller which we actually did not do. We were forced to pay for "damage" because we paid $600 deposit and did not inspect the boat's propeller before we took off on the boat. Yes, we inspect the boat, but the worker did not point out on the condition of the propeller, he just showed to us how to lift or put down the propeller for use. As it turned out that was our biggest mistake, as soon as we arrived back from our 4 hours water trip, this young man went to inspect the boat by himself (he did not want us to be near the during his inspection although we asked two times to be there with him), the whole "inspection thing" took him about 20 minutes, which was very suspicious, as it turned out our feelings did not deceive us. His verdict was: the propeller was damaged and our deposit was going to be on hold until we pay for the propeller. The words of 6 people against the words of the young man were nothing for the manager that the condition of the propeller was not showed to us in the first place and we actually were not able to see it properly because we were standing on the sidewalk and not behind the boat, which means you have to get into water and then you would be able to see properly the propeller. So, we gave up paid the "damage" and with spoiled mood took off from this camp. Another weird thing, the young worker, who did the inspection, he never did a direct eye contact with us, that was noticed by my daughter and by myself, but she did point it out first ( she is taken psychology classes at Sac City). Therefore, it is my opinion and advise if you want to rent a boat and do not have any clue then do not rent a boat at Greenhorn rentals. I will not do it again at this place for sure.
