Given the size of Scotts Flat Lake I can't say I've explored all or even most of it. Over the course of two days however, I came here twice, to two different parts of the lake and swam, paddle boarded, and sunned while some others sailed small boats. On both days I found the water wonderfully clean and refreshing but the experience of getting to the lake (cumbersome, hilly, and a bit of a chore), getting in and out of the water (your feet and legs might sink in the mud and you may wish you wore water shoes), and sitting on the shore (rocky and sloped) less than optimal. Once you're in or on the water all is good. There might be more optimal points of entry and spots with sandy, welcoming shores, but that wasn't my experience. My points of entry were those available to homeowners in a nearby community and even they were challenged with getting their watercraft into and out of the lake. I do enjoy sun and big bodies of water but the sum of my experiences at Scotts Flat Lake didn't leave me with a great desire of returning to its shores. read more

If you want an all-night party, this is the place to go! There are no enforced quiet hours, so loud parties can extend through the night. And you can run an RV generator for 24 hours a day with no hassles. But if you like to sleep at night, stay away from Scotts Flat. Plus, at the rest room nearest my recent campsite, 3 out of the 4 showers did not work. Campground maintenance has declined steadily in recent years. read more

We drove down past the campgrounds to the Day Use area. A few shady spots and some nice large picnic tables - luckily they are not chained down so you can move them to the shade. I personally don't mind if lake water is two different colors and was not wearing white so I had a lovely time wading out into the water. It was a beautiful shade of blue with gorgeous forested shores full of pines. It was surprisingly warm for early June, and I would definitely love to snag one of the lakefront campsites for a return visit! Nice, chill lake for kayaking and SUPing, though boats are allowed as well. read more

This review is for the Cascade Shores entrance... we were staying at an Air Bnb nearby and could see the lake from the balcony. We headed down to check it out with a few drinks and fishing poles. There is a private parking lot with an attendant (who lives in a trailer) that you have to pay (cash only). It was $2 walk in and the sign in my review photo gives additional information. Bathrooms also pictured but I cannot comment on the cleanliness because we didn't use it. There are signs posted everywhere "no drinking." It's not clear to me who owns this lake or any details related to the operation. When I return I'll be sure to ask more questions. read more

Site had no flat spots and on the smaller side. Site is about as far away from water as you can get. Lake is nice but get there early for a spot on the water. There is bear activity, but all I had to do is walk at them and they walked away. read more

It's been a tradition to camp here each summer with my family. What more could you want? There's nature everywhere, a beautiful lake to enjoy and the feeling of freedom from your day to day life. I think reasonable prices with amenities like running water, bathrooms and hot showers to boot. Love this place! read more

We really hoped for a better experience, but all things considered it had it's +/- like any campground. Definitely some good memories. Value - 3 * the coin operated showers are abysmal and a joke for the cost of camping at Scott's Flat. You can't control the temperature, so expect scalding showers. Rooms - 4 * tent sites were great, spacious but large parties 20+ people were able to book individual sites instead of group sites and it made for very noisy neighbors. Location - 4 * the lake was nice but definitely suited more for watercrafts than swimming. Very murky towards shore. But gorgeous, like bath water. Had a great time, bring a pop up! Cleanliness - 4 * routinely saw staff cleaning the bathrooms and trash/recycling. Service - 3 * store never open it seems, or maybe only on the weekends? It was only open once during our 6 night stay. Sleep Quality - 2 no enforcement of quiet time. Staff said they would check back several times throughout the night to check enforcement but they only drove by one night, at 10pm during our entire stay there. They never checked back again and guests are rowdy and loud until past midnight. A camper next to us reported a bear running through their site. We did know ahead of time to expect bears, but given it is such a frequent occurrence you would expect the campground to have bear boxes at the sites. read more

Don't camp here! Im a lifer at this campground since I was 6 months old . My parents first took me camping here before I could even walk. My siblings and my parents were camping 10 years prior to that. Back since the early and late 1960's. A very long time! Scott's Flatt Lake used to be a beautiful place. I camped there for multiple decades I have a lot of great memories there. I have had a lot of bad experiences to the point. I never want to return or camp here again. So set back relax because. I have a lot to say about this place. First off the management used to be good and from what I could remember. Scott's Flatt Lake used to be privately owned. Which made it a very nice place to camp because if you looked or appeared to be a shady character or showed any signs of bad behavior or look the role. Or making Scott's Flatt Lake into a full party zone. You were turned away. Scott's Flatt Lake reservoir eventually ended up being sold to Nevada Irrigation district. I remember the year when it was sold and from that point on. I could see this once beautiful place turn into a huge rats nest. Full of druggies to heavy drinkers. Beer bottles and beer cans every where. Campers showing no respect for the camp ground. Leaving thir trash every where, by the trash cans to beautiful sandy beach lake front. TRASHED!! Large loud massive family groups by the lake. Absolutely no tranquility on the lake. Loud people out on their boats blasting their rap trash music from one end of the lake to the next. All DAY LONG! Large family crowds on all the camp sites next to the lake. So if your looking to get away for some peace and quiet. You won't find it here. It's a huge party ZONE! And when they leave. They abandon and leave a ton of trash behind. Beer bottles, beer cans , trash, dirty diapers. You name it! And it smells like a homeless camp. It's disgusting. The management is horrible!! The worst! The people at the gates are very rude and dont care about your comfort or happiness being there. They do the bare minimum when it comes to taking care of this place. If you need any help in most cases you're out of luck! The bathrooms are disgusting! At gate one there used to be beautiful shades of pine trees. There were so many trees you couldn't even see the lake. Well most of the trees are gone now at gate one. They tore them all out and didn't even replace them with new trees. It's all bare. So much so. You can see the lake now from gate one and It looks horrible!! Just barren land with hardly any beautiful trees left. The workers there are very dunce and dont really care too much about anything. The last time I was there I got in at about 12am and set up camp. Me and my family would always arrive early in the morning just to watch the sun come up. It was a beautiful site to see. When Scott's Flatt was nice. Oh and if you're trying to make a reservation. You won't get anyone. Just a message that sounds like this. Hello happy campers and welcome to Scott's Flatt Lake. The message system is so poor. Good luck speaking hardly to anyone. It's why most of the time too. You have to just show up and grab a spot before morning and hopefully you might get the spot. You can hardly get a hold of anyone. Management and sell the camp spot out from under you. I picked a camp site and was going to go down and pay for the site in the morning and there were campers a few sites away from me. Young group of people. Music blasting, booze flowing. Yelling obnoxiously running in and out of their tents. Shining their flash lights everywhere! Laughing. Other campers were telling them to shut up and they would just laugh back at them Other campers starting yelling. The security was no where to be found. Where is security to get these people to shut up!! This went on until about 3am. They finally went to sleep about 3:30 -4:00.am. and then I got up at about 7 am with only 2 to 3 hours of sleep to walk up to pay for another night. After the worst nights sleep in the world. I walked down to gate two. I was going to make the most of it. The noisy group of people left. I went to pay for one more night at the camp site I was in and maybe go up to White Cloud after that.The lady at the guard shack, quickly said. The campsite is not vacant. You need to move! I said ok do you have another site I can move to? She said yes its not a very good site and its on slope. She said you have 5 minutes to let me know or it will be gone. I said ok. I returned in 3 minutes. The site I have to say was a horrible camp site! I said ok I'll take it. She said oh Im sorry rubbing it in my face. We just sold the site. I just GOT THE CALL!!! Like she was happy I didn't get it. I wish I could say more because there is so much horrible things to say about this place. Stay away from this place on 4th of July week.The worst! If you're looking for some where quiet to camp. This is a party zone with druggies,drunkards that have no respect. read more

We went to Scott's Lake campground for the first time on Thursday for a 3 night mini vacation. The first night was fine. The campground and facilities were clean and well maintained. Friday a very large group came in, maybe 30 people, which is fine. Everybody wants to have a good time. BUT, they partied, danced in the street, LOUD music, singing into microphones, LOTS of noise until 1:30, 2:00 a.m.! Impossible to sleep through. NID trucks go through regularly to empty trash (which is nice) and I spoke to the driver and asked if there were quiet hours. He said yes, I told him about the previous night and he said he would tell security. Well, absolutely NOTHING changed. Saturday night repeat!!!. Very inconsiderate of the large group, but no excuse for the campground not to enforce the quiet hours. We will never go back, which is sad, because it is beautiful there. But the beauty is not worth it if that kind of behavior is tolerated. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. We've been coming here for years and used to love it, but management has gone down hill. There was a camp ground playing music and yelling until after 1 AM. They told us that their policy is that they can play music all night if they want to if it's "low." They also let them run extension cords through our sites to "charge" their stuff in their site across the road. Funnily enough when my mom tripped on the cord it turned off their music and lights so what was it charging? The workers rolled through multiple times after their one and only warning at 10 PM and didn't do anything. This isn't and shouldn't be a party campground. We are very disappointed. read more

Been coming here since summer of 2009, and I still absolutely love it. It's just a gorgeous and relaxing camp ground. We come here 2-3 times per summer, and it's always a pleasant experience. I do have to say that it would be great if the site would have bear lockers/canisters...just this past weekend we were woken up to the sounds of a bear opening up our bins, one even had duct tape around it, and that still didn't keep it from opening it. The bear did come back for a second time, but luckily my brother scared it, and did not return. Regardless, I shall come back, but I'll have to educate myself on how to handle these types of scenarios, and make sure the rest of the clan is too. read more

Honestly this review is solely based on how pretty this place is. We didn't spend the night or anything. We just came for the day to boat and bbq. Unfortunately you can't do both so we had to chose only one. So the boat it was. But like I said this review is only based on how nice and relaxing this place was. It was not over crowded. Water is murky...you could literally see two different colors in the lake where the water closer to the shore is all muddy; try going into the water with something white and you will know what I am talking about. My husband and I both came here as kids and were excited to come back and check it out with our kids. We were in Gate 1 - Spot 72 and it was basically on a hill. There was no flat spot for our tent(it was a tent only spot) so we all slept at an incline. By morning time all three of my kids were smashed together at the bottom and my husband and I were halfway off our air mattress. Because of the fact that we were on a hill, my 1 and 2 year old were constantly falling and hurting themselves from trying to play around the campsite. On top of that, like everyone else has said, it's LOUD late late late into the night. Definitely not a place for family camping. We had a reservation for 2 nights and decided to come home after the first night. We will not be returning. read more

Quiet and Beautiful Lake's in a woodsy paradise ... The Large Upper Lake is a relaxing spot. It has a fun little campground located right on the warm-watered lake. If going to Upper-Scott's, I prefer going at it from the Cascade Shores side. This lake can get pretty busy with boats, but overall it is set in such a brilliantly-beautiful Forested back-drop - it is hard not to enjoy. For the campers there is a small general store. I however prefer the Cooler-Water of Lower Scott's Flat Lake. This lake does not allow motorized boats, so the water stays smooth as glass. This is the ideal lake to Paddle Board on - you can pretty much have the Lake to yourself to just cruise around and explore. This Lake is also known for some good fishing. read more

Gate 2 campsite 208 ~ I'm going to give 3 stars due to the lack of knowledge staff had regarding the surrounding area and direction locating the dam access as well as the fact that they dont really enforce their rules with the noise curfew. Our neighbors... and by that i mean 6 campsites away played their music at an intolerable level until 4 a.m. walking through other campers sites and threatening other campers. When Fishing from the Marina, we only caught bluegills about 2-3 inches. We also tried fishing from the dam through the 1st gate access.. NO LUCK. The Lake is very busy with boaters on saturdays. There are bear sightings but no food lockers and all they use are regular trash cans that dont lock up. It's a shame because it is a beautiful area and the site itself was quick access to the lake,spacous and clean. I suggest if you have any questions to ask the eguy in the store. My BF and a group of friends came here last year for a 2 night camping excursion.. The drive up here was a little terrifying.. Haha, but we made it in one piece.. We had 3 campsites, as our group was pretty big. The downside, our site was on a slope. There wasn't a single spot that we could set our tent down and not be diagonal.. Sleep was pretty crappy.. but oh well. The place gets PITCH BLACK after dark.. Um, kinda terrifying.. And the campsites are really close to each other.. both good and bad.. Good thing, was the shower and restrooms.. YAYE. Although we had to scrounge up enough quarters to get a decent shower but wasn't bad.. For the lake.. Eh.. It was hard to relax because its gravel and rocks everywhere.. But eventually we rented some kayaks and made our way around, which was really really fun.. There were a lot of people out and enjoying the scenary and it was a gorgeous day. I would definitely go back here... its just so damn far! (4 freakin hours!) read more

We spent 4 glorious days here with our church--Family Retreat. This is our FIRST full stay, having spent one day here in 2015 (Day Visit.) We were in Site 51, it was completely perfect. We came with a large group, and each site was perfectly tended to/clean. The bathrooms were well maintained, and the Camp Host was quite friendly and helpful. The lake itself was gorgeous. Other visitors joined our group for kayaking and corn hole, every last person/visitor was thoughtful and friendly. We look forward to returning in July each year with our group. Enjoyed Scott's Flat...never been before. Was shocked @ the only 50% capacity of the lake due to our current drought...but was pleasantly surprised with the upper lake difference. At 10% colder it was apparent it is normally over looked by campers but so wonderful when discovered. Like a different world with trails emphasized similar to hobbit living & witnessing God at his finest with peace, tranquillity, and adventure...or really just feeling one with nature after experiencing...quite mentally uplifting & appreciative to witness such beauty in nature! We've visited twice from the Bay Area both during high season. We had a decent visit the first try but had an excellent time this last visit. Our first visit was marred by the fact that the drought had fairly emptied the lake and left us with a muddy, rocky shoreline. That visit, too, the campers were loud late into the evening (but only on the Saturday night). It was a fun trip and we did some hiking around the lake and enjoyed ourselves despite these issues. This last visit, however, was some of the best family camping we've had (and we camp quite a bit). The lake was full and gorgeous, the campsites were quiet and respectful and the campground staff was friendly and attentive. We had a nice leisurely visit and did quite a bit of swimming. It was in the 90's but because of the ample shade in the campsites and the cool lake it didn't bother us much. We stayed into Monday and the already quiet campgrounds got eerily quiet on the Sunday night. Not a peep- we felt like we were alone. Protips: We booked two campsites and occupied one (this gave us a little more insulation from the other campsites Visit Nevada City on your way out. We shopped around and had a nice lunch. Cute town and a great ending for a perfect camping trip. read more

This has become one of my favorite places to camp. I love that you can get camp sites that are right next to the water that include sand beaches steps away from your camp site. The store hours are not consistent to the hours posted but if you need ice or supplies there is another store about 5 minutes away. read more

We spent 5 nights here in early October and loved every second of it! We stayed during the week so the campsites were mostly empty. We had a spot which allowed us to see the lake with no obstructions which was nice. The staff was very helpful and made rounds every few hours. They make sure to keep the trash cans empty to keeps bears from coming into camps. The campsites were quiet and well maintained. The water was crystal clear which was very refreshing. read more

Had a great impromptu visit here with my husband and 2.5 year old son. He loved it! We loved our short one- night stay and I would come back. Simple playground but I'm always amazed how simple it is to please kids with even simplistic play features. Win. Small general store and very nice employees. Will say that walking around the other campsite spots I noticed some seriously extremes in people's/group trash. Pretty appalling actually with all the #pointlessplastic in basic drink packaging, bulk food items and just disgusting trash habits sad to see in such nature however... this is our norm in a world of buy n large it was nice to see how fast the staff moved the trash out... just made me very very aware of how once something is done being used (single use plastics etc) how little ppl care about their garbage. I envision more awareness of these habits so everyone can do their part and make our lives not that separate from the trash we make.... and not so disconnected in just hoping your trash will get picked up and put somewhere.... and I think this can be achieved once people start associating these "mini campsite trips" as a success based on how little you leave behind. But I love to hope for the best, and think a few signs can help steer the majority of luxury campers (with huge campers) and their ginormous amounts of trash. Also I know it's a boaters lake but kinda gross seeing motor oil in the lake while wading in it, definitely glad my kid didn't want to go swimming in it. My wife and I along with 7 other people camped here a few weeks ago. Between the 7 of us we had 3 side by side camp spots. The three spots we had were perfect for us because there were no sites on either side of the sites we had. We were also right across from the bathrooms which helps a lot. The negative to our sites is that we were not far from the group site. And the weekend we went the group site was very loud well into the night. Also, it doesn't seem as if the camp hosts care that camp grounds are very loud into the late night, and even morning. The group site was playing loud music well past midnight. This review is not for the lake because we never went. We just relaxed in our site the whole weekend. read more

Not a place for family camping or people who want to simply enjoy nature. Yeah it was okay. The days were nice. I doubt we will stay at Scott's Flat ever again. Probably do Rollins from now on. Out of 5 nights, we got 2 nights of sleep. There is no night time security and this place has turned into the party place. Dumbass yuppies don't have 4wd and can't go party out in the real woods so they gotta ruin families camping trips. Our first day a guy got 86'd and another site next to ours was put on warning. Then we were at a wedding and went right to sleep for night 2, night 3 a huge group took up 3 spots across from us for a 3 day party. First night they drank themselves to sleep early but after that it was all night of bad singing and loud commotion. Finally they left and we would have had a nice sleep last night, our final night, BUT some homeless douche party of people in 4 cars showed up at like midnight next to us and they had to make sure the entire campground was awake. We yelled at them, but they continued. It would be nice if there was a camp host # you could call or something, but there isn't. read more

We have camped here a few years ago and loved it. We just camped here this past week during the weekdays and had the best time. I have been having alot of health issues and my husband knew I needed the outdoors for therapy. It sure helped alot. Just the smell and beautiful scenery helped. We encountered a bear on 2 occasions but brought along a horn which had them right on their way. Did not feel threatened. The staff were very busy the whole time we were there so I know they have their hands full. I fell in love with this spot and will definitely be returning this year and for years to come. The swimming was awesome as well. It does take a while to get through to get reservations or a call back but we'll worth it. read more

If you're a 20-something guy looking for a raucous weekend of drinking, getting drunk, drinking even more and imitating a coyote at 3:00AM, this place is for you! However, if you're like me and looking for a nice place to take the family for a weekend camping trip, I warn you, stay far, far away. We've been coming to Scott's Flat reservoir for 5 years now. Almost every Mother's Day, we make our first-of-the-season camping trip here. And each year it's gotten progressively worse in terms of no quiet time enforcement, heavy drinking and a ridiculous level of noise throughout the night. This trip was our final trip we make here and here's why: - No camp host available at night. Seriously, no-one is on-site. I was told a security guard makes regular rounds through the campsites but I did not see anyone after 10:00PM - even when I went and stood by the entrance kiosk for a half-hour at 4:00AM Sunday morning. Plenty of excuses here from later conversations with management. Still, no-one on-site? Scary. - No after-hours contact information posted anywhere. Again, seriously, if you have a problem at night, you are pretty much on your own. I can't help but think there's a huge public safety issue here. You can always call the sheriff which brings me to... - From what I'm told, the sheriff won't do anything to campers here since they don't serve as a "hotel" for drunks at the campground. From what I've learned from talking with the kiosk guy the final day of our stay and talking with the Nevada Irrigation District, who owns the land and manages the campground, they have for all intent ceded control to the guests at night which, at the moment, consist mainly of 20-something guys looking for a raucous weekend of drinking, getting drunk, drinking even more and imitating a coyote at 3:00AM. It's too bad since it's a beautiful area. read more

Awful place - horribly run. We booked a weekend through their website but there is a glitch that causes dates that are fully-booked to be switched with open dates once you've actually paid. In other words, we paid for one weekend, but got booked for another. When we complained to the managing company and asked for a refund, they refused saying that it goes against their policy. Hubby and I do a lot of camping in our RV and we definitely know good from bad. We stayed up here for 2 nights so that we were close to our Grandson's wedding. Very overpriced for a spot with No water or power hookups. We moved from a premium spot to a regular spot because next to us was a group of 25 campers. We were not reimbursed the difference. They charge an extra fee per dog. We have 2 small dogs. Not that they have any control but the lake(reservoir) was extremely low, not attractive at all. Very crowded and noisy for the end of the season. A group of campers were drinking and carrying on to all hours of the night. We would have slept better in a Walmart/Kmart parking lot and would have been easier on the pocketbook. read more

Check In - Reservation Lost: Planning our stay on a Saturday night in April, we made a reservation for a tent site weeks in advance. We arrived at 5pm with confirmation in hand to find no staff on site, and our reserved site was occupied by someone who had also paid for that spot. We grabbed the last remaining site in the whole camp, only to have another couple show up an hour later saying they had paid for that site. Basically, it seems super disorganized. Atmosphere - A little loud: If you are looking for a quiet, serene, camping experience this in not the place for you - the sites are close together and there was some lively groups playing music at night. Showers - were locked the whole time we were there, so no access. For being in "bear country", I was surprised they dont have bear-proof trash bins - they literally have those old-school metal cans. Supposedly someone was going to come by and empty the trash (right next to our site) at 9pm, but that never happened so we basically felt like we were sleeping next to bear bait.
