Overall, loved this place and would come back…read more The location is kind of random and not close(20 min drive) to the lakes. thats not a bad thing, but if you were hoping to only have a short hike to the water this isn't it. There is a nice hike (Pioneer trail) that goes right through the campground and it is very convenient. The bathrooms were clean and the toilet paper was replaced frequently. You are sort of close to other people at the individual camp sites, but quiet hours start at 10 so there aren't noise problems. The camp host was nice and gave good advice. A cold water spicket was in proximity to each site.

The campsite was a mile away so we decided to walk there and parked our car alongside the road. When the road cleared and it was time to get our car, Pat offered to give us a ride. This was late in the night and Pat's car got stuck in a ditch. She flagged down a pickup truck and the got the car out. We loved her energy and helpful nature. We will definitely go back again. PS. Some restrooms are not working and rental bathrooms have been added instead.

Great man-made lake that is around 4 miles to go all the way around, half of the path is paved so bike appropriate and good for jogging. When we went a portion of the trail was washed out and closed off but we were able to bypass it anyways with our dogs. Trail can start at the day use park then keeps going through the camp sites till you make the full circle. We regretted not bringing our swimsuits. We reserved campsite #5. All the campsites are all pretty secluded and spacious, but when we passed by #10 we were jealous in that it was the end of the culdesac and walkable to the lake and very secluded. Dog friendly. Vault toilets (no lights, bring headlamps). They have a potable water faucet. I thought the fire pits were well maintained. If you are bringing a RV/Trailer and coming from the South, make sure to take the Forest Hill route (slower route when it shows up on Google Maps). It is much better maintained and spacious. On our way up we went the quicker route and had no trouble as we just had one truck but the trailer in front of couldn't make a sharp turn and was stuck and actually damaged a portion of it, we were able to guide it through thankfully but go at your own risk.

The staff is very friendly and the grounds are well kept with the bathrooms being well taken care of. On the 4th of July they have a fun parade in their little town near by. The town is close by in walking distance with a bar and small store if you need to buy something you forgot. They also have a restaurant but we did not eat there. This place offers tent and RV camping. They have a play ground so kids can swing and play. It's very family friendly. If you are down to go camping go check them out. I really can't say enough about this place. They do book up very quickly.

We don't bring any off-road vehicles, clean up after ourselves and others, and have always been respectful to others. This trip, we were confused by an extra charge for camper 5 & 6 when they arrived. We simply asked why when the website says up to 6 per site and got the response "don't tell me what my website says, I'll pull it up and show you..." Whoa, hold on, it was a legit question we weren't challenging your existence! Why such a mean and rude response? We ALL have bad days and I spent MANY years in customer service, you just don't treat people like that if you want them to come back. So now we question, do they even care if we come back? There are so many people wanting to get a spot this time of year that we don't matter to them? The first three days we were here, less than half the spots are taken, so I would think not. But wow, horrible treatment, horrible. I must say though, we went to the office the day before, it was closed, we rang the bell and received a cheerful greeting followed by an eager response to fill our request for firewood, even delivered it to our spot. So, to the lady in the office that spoke so rudely to my wife and daughter, relax. Sometimes folks simply don't understand and a calm explanation is all they need. Will we come back? Maybe. But if we do, I hope we encounter the nice staff, not the rude angry lady.

We stayed at Salmon Creek Campground in late August 2020. There were fires all over that had…read morefinally been contained enough for us to feel comfortable going. We live in Sacramento and had been dealing with all the ash and smoke for weeks. Coming up to the campground was so nice, as the air was clear and mostly crisp. It was a much needed break. We stayed at campsites #27 & #29. According to the reservation site (recreation.gov), both of these sites are on the creek side, rather than the highway side. But when we arrived, we found they were on the highway side (along with #26, so not all of them are listed improperly). It wasn't so bad, though, as the highway is a ways up above the site and it wasn't too busy. At night, I honestly didn't even notice the sound. #26 is really close to #27, but no one was there when we went, so it was fine. #29 is on the creek side and is actually downhill a bit. It's definitely the most secluded site on the entire campground. The restrooms are almost directly across from #26 and the door has slams literally every time someone uses it (unless they hold it to stop it from slamming, but why would anyone do that?), so it was a bit of a nuisance at night or in the early morning. The campground was clean overall. We saw the Forest Service truck come through a couple times each day just to check up on things. There was no camp host when we went. We had no issues with bears or anything rummaging through our site at night (though we did put everything in the bear box). There also wasn't much of an issue with noise, but that really just depends on how considerate the neighbors are that happen to be there when you are. And since there is no camp host on site, there would be nothing done about noise anyway. We hopped in our cars to drive just a few feet up the highway to access the Sand Pond & Lower Sardine Lake. They were nice, but the issue here is that while Salmon Creek Campground allows dogs, neither of these allow them. And since we didn't have anywhere we could keep our dogs, our visit to these spots was very brief. If you want to bring your dogs with you, you have to head up to Upper Sardine Lake. This is an OHV trail, so you need 4WD to drive up there. Your other option is hiking it, but it is a bit of a hike uphill...not a simple walk. With that said, my 7 year old made the hike both ways without issue, but it is rocky, so be careful. My hubby has a truck that could handle it, so we took that, but it was terrifying for me, as the width of the trail is only a few feet wider than the width of the truck and you're literally on the edge of this mountain cliff with no guard or anything. And if another vehicle comes, one of you have to back up till there's a wide enough space for passing. It was very nerve-wracking. So while we loved the campground, we have opted not to return mainly because we enjoy bringing our dogs with us camping & it just wasn't an ideal situation.

I had reservations for site #33 at Salmon creek campground, 9/14/26-9/19-26. I've been there…read moreseveral times and this site was so perfect! Lots of tent site options, pristine, quiet and pretty private. When I arrived this time the site was pretty much destroyed by the Forest Service!! Gone was the pristine area I so looked forward to... They had torn up almost every place there was for a tent site as they had been using the site for access to store log decks and had large slash piles, debris and rocks and uneven ground EVERYWHERE!! I had only 1 option for my tent -next to the slash piles. I left early as I was so disappointed. IMO this site is dangerous due to the uneven ground and rocks everywhere. Very easy to twist an ankle and trip and fall. The original camp table is literally held up by cordage and rocks, the benches are split. They have a newer table but it is far away from the other table and at least 30 feet from the bear box. ( The old table is right next to the bear box.) No thought has been given to use by campers at this site- it is a complete mess! It will take many years for the site to recover if at all. No mention of any of this on the website...
