We stayed there for a weekend in late March and it was gorgeous! The only thing is most of the good spots were closed off. There was only one really good spot with shade that was more secluded than the others so I would suggest getting there early

The water is next to the campgrou d. We had #4 camp site. The bathrooms are next to it too which we didn't like because you can smell it! It was very dusty..a bear came to the site at 1am which was scary. Also snakes in the water.

There are several areas before and after the river where you can park for free or else it is $10 to park for day use and they do enforce it. Theres a few trails close by, Windy Point Trail is close but challenging, bring a lot of water and be careful bringing dogs during the summer because it's not shaded. Mineral Bar is very beautiful & clean. There is a picnic area & pretty clean bathrooms. Its definitely a spot worth checkin out. Be careful accessing the river this summer

8/25 - 8 /28 Much needed decompression time. Solo camping trip with just my dog. Beautiful as always. Very hot. River was amazing. I love this spot. I found some gold too :)

Great place to relax. Listen to water if people don't play music. Very clean clear water. Restroom on all over.

I loved camping here. My boyfriend and I were the only ones so it was super quiet. Clean bathrooms is a plus! The water was super clear and nice. We walked around a bit but there are not many trails. It's more of a place for those who just want to stay in the same spot and of course fish but if you like to hike then you will have to drive to near by sites for hiking. It's perfect to just pull a chair and sit with a book to relax.

    Clear and clean fresh water!

It's a great spot, make sure you pack in your shade and water for day use. At the far end of campsite area you come down to some small beaches. Life jacket for kids. All drinks need to be alumni cans. Pack in and Pack our! I would take a Boy Scout troop here.

I go gold panning here and always find gold. Beautiful spot! The river at times is like bath water! Nice walking trails and an old time bridge that crosses the American river. Nice shady camp spots. there is a fee for day use of $10.00 but well worth it! There use to be a gold mine here back in the 1800s. The mine is covered in now but relics can be found from that era. This is a wild life area so pay attention to your surroundings. While panning we encountered a large brown bear with cubs drop out in the river not more than 30 yards. Mountain lions have been seen although not by me. There are times during the year where a water fall flows from the top of the mountains and a train runs through the top time to time. reminds you of a Christmas scean. It is very beautiful! Put the cell phones down and get out there and enjoy the outdoors!

This is a nice place to camp and hike. Dog friendly as well, but must be kept on leash less than 6 feet at all times. No running water or electricity. $28 per night to camp with one vehicle. Overall a nice place with beautiful scenery and privacy.

    Beautiful weekday with zero people

We tried paying the $22 for day use for a couple hours and put it in the payment slot thinking she would allow us to stay as she did the fishermen. Nope! Here's why: 1) We were just there at Long Ravine, and the campground was EMPTY, but we had a third vehicle for 4 of the 7 days we were staying. We were forced to pay over $200 for another campsite (which we NEVER used) just to park the third car even though the parking area right across from site 26 was completely empty the entire time! We were willing to pay the $20/night for the car, but this was ridiculous! They stated fire marshal rules, but there was NO evacuation danger! But then on Friday, when the camp filled up more, there was a car parked in the extra parking area with a camp tag! There was also a truck allowed to park on the dirt area between campsites! 2) Upon arrival, one of the stalls in the women's bathroom was taped up and noted out of order. We were told it was being fixed but it never was and the smell only got worse through the week and when we left on Saturday, another toilet was stopped up, leaving only one stall to use on a busy weekend. 3) We paid $68/night for another electric site even though we use tents. We have a boat and not only were we charged the $13/night extra charge for having a boat, but we were also charged a launch fee for each day of our stay, even though we didn't launch the boat every day! That should be part of the camping fee! 4) We went there a month early this year as we were told that they would be releasing the water starting July 1 due to repairs needing to be done, but upon arrival, the lake was already way down so there was no day beach or Great Lake access beaches as they were all in sludge! And they were still charging people $20/vehicle for their day use when it was so steep and rocky that you couldn't even get to the water easily! We get that fees go up, but then we should also see improvements to the camps! And to impose such restrictive and excessive fees is a total turn off. State campgrounds are hands-down much better than this and we'll only use them now.

The whole fam-bam was out there by 7 a.m., lines in the water as soon as we could get them in. About 30 minutes in, our middle child--who ALWAYS seems to be the first to catch something--reeled in the first fish. Not long after, our youngest caught one too, literally right after releasing the first! Then I got in on the action, followed by my husband. Our oldest was getting tons of bites but just couldn't land one. With only about 30 minutes left before we had to pack up for the parade, my husband gave him a tip and sent him to his go-to spot. Boom--fish on the line right away! He let that one go, cast again, and caught another within minutes. It was a perfect ending to our morning. Rollins Lake is such a fun spot to fish as a family. Bring chairs, sunscreen, hats, and don't forget snacks and drinks. The port-o-potties weren't bad at all, and there was plenty of parking too. We had a blast and will absolutely be coming back soon!

The camp was right next to Rollins Lake. A fairly decent oasis amidst the trees in Nevada county. Water was cold which was heaven sent since the outside temperature was averaging around 90. Hadnt been here in, oh, I would say 20ish years. So I didn't recognize anything which means I came in with a fresh, open mind. First off the drive up to the lake is really nice. My wife even commented how she loved the trees and the view of the lake was gorgeous. The price was pretty decent, boat and truck was $13 for the day. We put the boat in at Long Ravine Campground which was called Cecil's Cove I believe. The young men at the gate were SUPER friendly, big thumbs up for that. The ramp is a little small and the two parking lots are set up kind of funny turning up a hill, but manageable. While cruising in the 5 mph zone you drive by the marina, the Store/Grill, swimming area, a cool slide that sits in the cove which you can slide off of it into the water, gas station(afraid to know how expensive it was) and boat rentals. I admit I liked the view of it all. The lake is a little on the small side but it also has huge fingers that weave deep into the mountains which are fun to drive into. Many of us commented on how clean the water was and the views were gorgeous. And get this, the water level was seriously 10 feet from maximum capacity. It looked like early summer. I really couldn't believe how full the lake was. We beached up all day and all of us had fun, including the dogs. You have a new fan Rollins Lake. A new fan indeed and I will see you soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmCcq4yhrMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Siwto_JvBkY

He had lots of knowledge about the California gold rush and it was nice to learn about it as an adult who didn't grow up in CA (I'm sure my 12yo loved learning about it too). While we camped at Earthtrek, it was super helpful that our trip included breakfast, 2 lunches (one lunch mid-rafting trip), and dinner. All meals were delicious and it was nice that there were gluten free options. The OARS site is spacious, with clean facilities, and a small shop for items. Now on to the rafting experience! For some background, my husband was the only one who had ever done it so my kiddo and I were newbies. Along with another kiddo and adult, we rafted through class 1-3 rapids and I never felt that we were not safe (despite me being the weakest swimmer in the family). Alec was truly a guide in every sense of the word. He prepped us before taking on the rapids - gave us the route we would take, what to expect in terms of how we were to paddle and what we had to do. We played some fun boat games and spent some time floating in the river which my husband and son loved. Also included were the always fun brain teaser riddles that had all of us entertained during the floating portions of our trip. After completing the class 3 rapids and all staying in the raft, we felt on top of the world and wanted to do more! If you have ever thought about trying white water rafting, do it - you won't regret it! It's truly an experience and a great time in nature with the family. OARS is a professional and inclusive company, with great guides!
