Went camping w/ the boy scouts last weekend. It was great once I got over all the scouting activities. Having said that, it was very low key and enjoyable. The camp was right next to Rollins Lake. A fairly decent oasis amidst the trees in Nevada county. Water was cold which was heaven sent since the outside temperature was averaging around 90. The sand bar was a great hangout place. We took an aluminum boat out to the "bar" which was the only mistake. Can you say "ouch." Aluminum and heat don't mix y'all. Regardless, a good time was had by all. WONDERFUL NEWS!!! I found a lake that isn't a small muddy pond(yes I am looking at you Folsom Lake and Camp Far West) late in the summer. The winner is Rollins Lake! Hadnt been here in, oh, I would say 20ish years. So I didn't recognize anything which means I came in with a fresh, open mind. First off the drive up to the lake is really nice. My wife even commented how she loved the trees and the view of the lake was gorgeous. The price was pretty decent, boat and truck was $13 for the day. We put the boat in at Long Ravine Campground which was called Cecil's Cove I believe. The young men at the gate were SUPER friendly, big thumbs up for that. The ramp is a little small and the two parking lots are set up kind of funny turning up a hill, but manageable. While cruising in the 5 mph zone you drive by the marina, the Store/Grill, swimming area, a cool slide that sits in the cove which you can slide off of it into the water, gas station(afraid to know how expensive it was) and boat rentals. I admit I liked the view of it all. The lake is a little on the small side but it also has huge fingers that weave deep into the mountains which are fun to drive into. Many of us commented on how clean the water was and the views were gorgeous. And get this, the water level was seriously 10 feet from maximum capacity. It looked like early summer. I really couldn't believe how full the lake was. We beached up all day and all of us had fun, including the dogs. You have a new fan Rollins Lake. I went camping here with a group of friends over July Fourth weekend. I like that this lake is a short drive from Sacramento, so it's an easy, quick getaway. While we had ample space in our group camping lot and the lake is fairly isolated, it really didn't feel like we were surrounded by nature. The neighbors blasted Kid Rock from their RV, others cruised around in circles on their golf carts all day long, and we were never more than a short walk away from the modern conveniences of the Outrigger restaurant, the "Party Box" (music and booze) and the lake's convenience store (which I guess could be considered a plus to some). The huge HUGE drawback, and I don't really fault Rollins Lake for this other than their swimming area is so small, was that three in our group actually got sick (vomiting and diarrhea) from swimming in the water. We were not the only ones, as trips to the restroom at 3 a.m. were met with others also in the same predicament. I know the lake can't control who goes swimming in the lake or what those people DO while they're in the lake, but the thought of accidentally swallowing feces while trying to kick back in the water is NOT my idea of fun. read more

I'm sorry to say, but this place didn't impress me at all. We were only up for the day to take the boat out and I don't think we will be back. The lake looks nice from the launch, but once we found a place to hang out and swim, we found the water to be uncomfortably warm, really murky and stagnant. The cove/sand bar where we were hanging out quickly became packed with around 30 other boats and these idiots acted this was the first day ever being out on the water. No one was paying attention to what they were doing, I was waiting for someone to crash. This lake also clearly doesn't have a capacity limit either which would explain why it was so crowded. Instead of being concerned about safety, it's clear whoever runs this place is more interested in how much money they can make. We didn't camp, but from what we saw, the campsites were on a steep hillside, and stacked on top of each other. Not my idea of camping!!! I'm not going to fork out good money to camp next to strangers and get nickel and dimed. There are a lot of other places in Northern California that are cheaper and have bigger and cleaner lakes where you don't have to take your boat out of the water every night and then pay to park your boat. read more

Great place for camping and if you have a boat the lake is breathtaking. Clean bathrooms with hot showers and a deep sink outside the bathrooms to wash dishes if needed. Planning a big camping trip next year with my family and I'm so excited. Also loves that there were a lot of Deers and baby Deers running it around, it brought s great mountain touch. It's does get cold at night so bring your warm clothes :) read more

Great customer service NOT! We were excited to check out the place but man with the store clerks attitude probably blew us and a lot of other ppl from coming back. And she talked about other customers after they left, not good. Other than that, it looked like ppl were coming for boating and day use which looked fun! The campsite had more space than the average campground. Access was good. Easy to get to. There was a good amount of riffraff and partying, but in general people were courteous. All employees were friendly. The lake was very close. I like the beach area with the little store and sandwich shop. I would go back. Boat rental was easy and fast. The bathrooms get nasty fast but that's not the fault of the place. Humans are gross. read more

Rollins lake is beautiful! My boyfriends parents own property 3 miles away, so we like to take our raft and spend the day cruising around the lake. The entrance we use is a little more remote than the others because its harder to find, but I do believe its the best part of the lake. Big pines line the lake all over, and the water looks very pristine. Not long ago, we went there for the first time and there was practically nobody in the lake, which made everything much more peaceful and enjoyable. I haven't been camping there in awhile, but they need to expand on their inside games and keep cleaner restrooms. It was nice camping near the lake. Fishing can go over well if you have the right equipment and expertise. read more

Its pretty nice to see this lake. The nice thing about this lake is that you can camp around it. It doesn't seem to have lots of people here so you don't have to worry about crowds. I do like that they have a restaruant off the lake. Also, I like how you can see the entire lake as you drive by. Haven't fished here. Its an okay lake read more

Horrible customer service, boat launch was way too short. Apperently a cable broke over the winter and they never fixed it. Bathrooms were extremely filthy. Mountain of trash stacked up behind the building. For a good time... STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMPGROUND! ! ! read more

Prior to this storm 12/18. Slow fishing and bass are deep. 16 to 20 ft generally. 4 good size bass in five hours, and several missed hook ups. Two of us in the boat. Best result with drop shot and wacky rig plastic. Fish are so cold you won't really get a strike sometimes. The line will get heavy or move just enuf... Great to be out on the water, but jeez! Camper Beware! I have been camping here for many years. Everything went downhill as soon as N.I.D. took over the campsite. The store is pathetic now always closed and have no where near what they used to have under prior management. The Beach Hut Deli is also always closed. It was much better when it was just the store with the snack bar inside. The last time I stayed here the clean up guys stole a bunch of my camping gear. Everything was in my tote containers and the garbage guys helped themselves to it while I was out boating. I confronted them on it and they had guilt written all over their faces. Stated they would bring it all back to me but they came back with someone else's stuff that they must have also stolen. I have no doubt that they took my property. When I complained to management they did nothing. Be careful if you stay here and lock up your stuff! read more

Very very disappointed. The 10pm noise reduction curfew meant nothing to park rangers or people alike. There was so much noise, I could not hear myself think. People were smoking while in the lake practically blowing it into my childrens faces. Horrible! I will never go there again. read more

We love Rollins lake, it is like being in Tahoe with out all the tourist.The lake is huge and there are a couple wineries, gold panning, cute little downtown shopping area, so many beautiful hiking trails in the area. We plan on going back every spring or summer read more

CAMPERS !!!! BE CAREFUL !! We wanted to get away and have a peaceful camping trip ... We got used to the camp crew arriving at any time to our site to read us the rules and regulations (relax ! This isn't Woodstock, we got it) the kicker is the UNPROFESSIONAL camp woman (you know who you are, Remember cussing us out because we gave you feedback on the customer service?! ) I was flabbergasted ! ya, she sits in that little booth entrance to take people's pay... Just rude , bitter , no smiles .... We Honestly get the impression she's not a people person - lol - I don't give negative reviews because I believe people are allowed a bad day.. so congratulations lady!! You pushed me to have to do this and I am NOT the only person who was surprised by her horrible treatment !!!! I suggest that if you want to camp and enjoy yourself with no hassle DO NOT GO TO ROLLINS LAKE !! They have a rude sign when you drive up ... Something about "we don't care who you are or who you are friends with, we will refuse service" (something along those lines) welcome to a lovely weekend ? I think not ! TOTAL TURN OFF !! JUST PLAIN UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE ...if I was the owner I would be extremely concerned on who they have running the place but I have a feeling that much attention is not payed to this situation..sucks for them because we wanted to like this place!! so it could become our family and friends yearly reunion spot - tough break lol I will NEVER EVER CAMP HERE AGAIN AND I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DON'T either !! Nice place, but VERY crappy customer service. When we came out to check out different places to camp, the people here were very friendly and told us that they had full amenities, yet neglected to say that if it wasnt busy they close everything down!
