When I went it was after work and I was on the hungry side. I park the rental and go inside. First thing I notice was how clean the place was. Spotless. A dude was cleaning the tables, another person was cleaning the windows. Spotless. The menu is straight forward. You can smell the chicken and pork cooking. I decide on the Bar B-Q sandwich. I get a side of baked beans. She takes the order and I grab a seat. It's not long and my order is ready. I took it for takeout and went back to the hotel. The sandwich didn't taste right. I am good with the coleslaw on the sandwich but the meat had an off taste to it. The baked beans could have been better...they had a funk to them that couldn't be ignored. So, the advice from my coworkers was right. My next visit to Jacksonville will include a different BBQ restaurant.

I got 2 eggs over medium, bacon and wheat toast. The food was good, but that's ok! What I didn't like, I had to butter my own toast and there was no rye toast offered, nor was there any type of potatoes or hot tea. Additionally, we ate on styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. I understand why this is how they operate, but as someone that does not like using plastic unless absolutely necessary, it was a small turn off. The smiling faces that ran the restaurant were welcoming and very accommodating. I was happy to support local, but that was the only appeal to me.

We stepped inside (to escape the heat, at the minimum), and checked out the menu. We found the food menu interesting enough to order and stay. In addition to food, coffee and tea (matcha & chai) and adult beverages are served. My wife and I each ordered the Hug-A-Hero sandwich, that with each purchase as the menu states, the store donates a portion of the proceeds to the Hug-A-Hero organization, that "brings comfort to military families." We ordered it because the sandwich components looked tasty. And the sandwiches arrived impeccably crafted and sliced, with the flavors we hoped for. The goat cheese and house-made creamy pesto aioli really set this sandwich apart from just being another turkey sandwich on some fancy bread. For sides we chose the creamy potato salad with pieces of potato -nicely blended and smooth taste- and the pasta, Arugala, pine nut salad. Service was good. (Side note: First time I've been named "Blue Shirt Guy Couple" on my order ticket and it made me smile). Seating in the narrow (but normal layout for this building) space is organized by tables on one side and chairs and a counter down the other side. Business was steady during this lunch time and the bistro definitely deserves a return visit.
