How hard is it to mess up a hot dog? Well apparently at…read moreBill's Hot Dog Stand, it's fairly easy. Me and my dad were stopping in Washington, NC, to grab a hot dog before arriving at Goose Creek State Park to camp over the weekend. We heard about Bill's Hot Dog Stand on North Carolina Weekend PBS, but that was 100% outdated. This place just down right sucks. Walking in there was a line in the small establishment shaped like a horseshoe, so we believed it to be good. People were also ordering about 20 of them. How? I don't know. The 3 women behind the counter were rude. 1 was going painfully slow at taking hot dogs out of the boiler, the 2nd had an attitude about putting some chili (slop), mustard, and onions on a hot dog, and the 3rd practically was yelling in everyone's face at the register. When it was finally our turn, my dad ordered a hot dog with chili and mustard, and the individual said "So no onions?" Lady, they're the same thing. The chili was discolored (brown) and was practically paste. I don't know how you call that chili. When we ate our hot dogs, they were just downright gross. They both had a weird taste, and the chili was overly spicy and just gross tasting. The tea was so overpoweringly sweet (and I like SWEET tea), and customer service was just horrible. Do not come here. Just don't do it. Want a GOOD hot dog? Head to Hap's in Salisbury.

What initially drew me in is how cute the stand is. I also saw a lot of people walking around with their drinks; their large adorable cups and fruit inside each flavor popped out at me and really made me want one. I met the owners (who are sisters!) and they are so sweet and welcoming. They let me sample each one of their flavors: classic, pom pink, and cran clementine. The classic was so refreshing-- a perfect, classic (ha), lemonade. Not too sweet or too watery. It tasted healthy in the best way. I could definitely imagine having it on a hot summer's day at the beach! The cranberry clementine was very sweet but not overpowering. It was a close second, but I decided on the pom pink! It was less sweet than the cran clementine, but a great twist on the classic pink lemonade! I wish I could have filmed how they make it; it is such a cool process. They fill juice in, add whole fruit and ice, and lastly water. They shake it upside down and serve it with a paper straw. There are also rainbow metal straws they sell for an additional $3! Cups are BPA-free, they hand wash their lemons, and they use pure cane sugar. Nothing is better than a business that cares about their community. I guess you could say it's refreshing-- ha ha. My lemonade barely made it home. It was such a nice treat and I can't wait to go back again!! If you're in the Wilmington area I highly recommend checking them out. Especially since those summer heats are coming up! 10/10!

You can choose between a reg or jumbo size, but honestly the regular is always enough for me. I typically go for the crab clementine and they make everything right there in front of you with fresh fruit. They do not accept cards, however, she will take cash and Venmo, which I find to be the case at most farmers markets. Her drinks are really the perfect beverage to have in hand while exploring the various vendors and cooling off from the heat.

We've tried pretty much everything on the menu. This is an older establishment that has kept its old charm. One aspect we appreciate about it. Very simple ordering process and great customer service. Simple menu with plenty of options for everyone. The food is cooked to order and doesn't take long even when it's really busy. Plenty of seating and a large parking lot. We have enjoyed every meal here and will continue to do so. Recommend dining here. Interesting note: if you search for the best burger restaurants in NC, they are on the list.

I joined the Marine Corps and left the area, but I would always stop there when home on leave. About 15 years later, I was so disappointed when the store was no longer there. Well, I have finally found the closest thing to what I enjoyed over 50 years ago. Awesome dogs with thick meat sauce, sweet onions and mustard. They also put coleslaw on them, but I had to go with my boyhood passion, so no coleslaw for me. A friend told me that he had never had a dog with coleslaw before, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. The shake was pretty dang good too. I will be back this weekend again!
