It's a moderately-sized space, certainly smaller than many of its Freehand Hospitality peers at Queens Marque, but the closer, almost communal seating allows for a good number of people to dine here. The decor is quite reserved, with the ceiling actually being the show piece, as the layers of boards giving a scaled effect and a gradient of charring lending a really cool (hot?) look to the space. The menu is comprised of fancied-up twists on familiar cuisines from across East Asia, with dishes giving nods or deeply tied to countries like Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, and China to just name a few. Some of their smaller dishes were catching my eye, so I ordered the chicken and black garlic dumplings, and the mango salad, while my wife got the pho with spent hen broth. Ever since I first tried one, I've been a big fan of mango salads. The mix of flavours, colours and textures is top tier, and all in one, easily-chopsticked salad! Tori Dori's doesn't stray far from the template, with julienned mango, carrot and red onion that got a mix of heat, freshness, and savoury sweetness from chilis, mint, cilantro and a tamarind sauce. Anything with black garlic in it is bound to get me to order it, and while that unique preparation of garlic didn't feature as prominently on my taste buds as I would have liked, it did lend to a more savoury depth than chicken dumplings usually have. The tender and pleasantly toothsome wrappers held up well to their soy and vinegar dressing. The pho had a slightly more subtle broth than the beef ones that tend to be more common, but it was just as aromatic and satisfying as a good pho should be. Tender slices of chicken breast accompanied the typical pho accoutrements. The understated Tori Dori avoids the Instagram-bait vibe of some of its siblings, and delivers flavourful East Asian dishes with splashes of contemporary flair.

I asked for extra red chilies and soon found myself sweating, tearing up, and convinced that all this spice was curing my itchy throat. I was the only one in the restaurant at the time, so I hope nobody caught me blowing my nose and sweating it out at my little table--but honestly, I was in the zone, healing myself with every bite. Service was very attentive, and the staff were genuinely kind. The space itself is beautiful, modern, and welcoming. I'd absolutely recommend this spot if you're looking for great Asian food along the waterfront.

We walked in and wanted to try an order of spring rolls with our dish but their fryer was broken so they could not do ANY sides - which is crazy to begin with especially from other reviews talking about their debit machines etc. I ordered the butter chicken and the only good thing I have to say is that the rice was good and sticky. The butter chicken sauce had no spice to it, it was unflavourful and afterward I felt as if I was going to be sick. It tasted almost like a thin watery pasta sauce from the dollar store. It was almost a dark brown colour. The chicken was pre-cut cold chicken breast, I wouldn't be surprised if it was still frozen. It reminded me of a lean cuisine dinner - but don't get me wrong, the lean cuisine would have been more favourable than the 15$ I paid for this meal. The naan wasn't grilled, it tasted like bread. It was white and powdery.. out of all of the Indian restaurants I have ever been to, this was the worst butter chicken I have ever had across Canada. My boyfriend got the shrimp pad Thai. There was no peanuts, and way too much spruce. There was only two shrimp in the entire dish for a total of 15$. It was essential a dish of veggies. Presentation of the food and restaurant was A+.. it was clean, I'm really disappointed nothin g else was as good. For the quality and price.. go down the street and order from cha baa Thai or even Thai express in the food court for half the price. All in all, our service wasn't the best.. the food was awful and I experience was terrible. Definitely won't be back.

The place is spacious, and the buffet looked super appetising. We were asked to sit anywhere, so we sat near the window. Getting our food, we chose a lot of the seafood, salad, tried some of the different styles foods, and of course- the Chinese part of the buffet. The shrimp in shell were not de-veined, and the tempura shrimp tasted like it was paste. The crab was cooked well, and the fish in batter was cooked nicely. The fruit and ice cream were the saving grace, as they had the regular jellos, cookies, and small sweets. They didn't have seafood sauve, only replaced with spicy Mayo and some weird sweet chili sauce. The choices with the Chinese foods were cooked amazingly, and the noodles weren't soggy or super dry. The price was 20$ a person, and even with the 5$ coupon, came to 18 and change. Not really the price range I would expect from a smaller buffet area. View was gorgeous, and the staff were prompt and courteous. I will definitely be going back.

Once we were seated (and then reseated after discovering our first table's propane had given up), it became clear why: the sweeping ocean views, the prime people-watching real estate, and yes, an actual fire pit built into your table (which has clearly claimed a few menus as casualties). The food was solid. The sushi rolls featured high-quality scallops, and mercifully, they don't pad everything with an aggressive amount of rice like some places do when they're hoping carbs will do the heavy lifting. The happy hour oysters were fresh, local, and hit the right notes with a glass of Tidal Bay. Nothing was revelatory--honestly, I've already forgotten what else we ordered--but that's not really the point here. You're paying for the view and the vibe, and on that front, Sea Smoke absolutely delivers. Sometimes that's enough.

Cool Atmosphere, Great Drinks - Just Didn't Hit the Mark for Us This Time…read more I'm giving Sea Smoke a 2 out of 5, but to be fair, we totally see the appeal of this spot and imagine we would've enjoyed it more if we'd been able to explore more of the menu. The patio is beautiful, with cozy fire pits right by the water--such a great vibe for an evening out. The drink menu is solid, too. I really enjoyed my craft beer, and my wife was happy with her cocktail--both were well made and refreshing. We didn't go all in on a full meal, but we did try one of their more unique appetizers--the salmon cigar. It sounded creative and caught our attention, so we gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it just wasn't our thing. My wife liked it a bit more than I did, but even she wasn't fully sold on it. That said, props to the kitchen for taking risks and trying something different--you can tell there's thought and ambition behind the menu. All in all, we didn't love our experience, but we still respect what Sea Smoke is doing, and would love to come back someday and give the full dinner a proper try when our budget allows it!
