Janu owes me $1,200 dollars. I bought a 10 series from him at the end of 2018 and after 4 sessions I was suddenly no longer able to get in contact with him. He completely disappeared. After a month of continually reaching out there was no response. Finally, I posted a negative review and immediately he gets in touch with me. I told him this was too unprofessional, didn't want to continue working with him, and requested a refund for the remainder of my sessions. He said he was not in a position to pay me back at the moment but would be able to soon. We made an agreement for him to pay me by March 1st which was two weeks away. That day came and went and I didn't receive my money. This pattern has continued from then until now. I reach out find out what is going on and the response, if I get one, is always "next week" or "I should have half by tomorrow"..... Long story short, it's been 8 weeks and Janu hasn't paid me back anything. At this point point I have ZERO confidence that he will pay me back without legal intervention. GO ELSEWHERE. Long story short is that he owes me $1550 for seven sessions that I paid for in advance nearly three months ago. I purchased these at my 2nd session with him in late November 2018. It was a bit hard to schedule sessions in December but I chalked it up to the holidays and my own travel plans. In retrospect, I'm not so sure... On 12/12/18 he cancelled our appointment less than an hour before the session. On 12/17/18 he failed to confirm for an appointment that he had offered me the day before and that I had accepted. We had a third session in January that he did not charge me for because of the previous cancellations -- fair enough and I appreciated that. And then on 1/28/19 HE JUST DOES NOT SHOW UP FOR AN 8 AM APPOINTMENT -- total radio silence -- and did not respond to my phone calls and texts about that for 2 days. When he did finally get in touch with me, he promised to pay me back. He said he needed 2 weeks. It didn't happen. I suggested weekly payments and he agreed: after one week, he bailed on that too. During this time, there were two other one-star Yelp reviews posted (curiously since deleted) that reported another no-show for a woman in crutches (this one is still on his GoogleMaps reviews), and a guy who, like me, had paid in advance and hadn't heard from Janu at all in 2019 after weeks of reaching out to him through text, email and social media... I suspect there are several more people in this situation. I know of at least one person who is suing. Like the others, I'm not sure what is going on with this guy but he is clearly off his game. I tried to be patient. I tried to be nice. I tried to be understanding. I got a healthy lesson of "nice guys finish last". I hope others will learn from my mistake. read more

I have suffered from knee pain for the past 2 years. I tried acupuncture, physical therapy, cupping, chiropractic adjustments, rest, and more to fix it. As a former half-marathoner, it was heartbreaking to not be able to run. I went to Janu as a last resort, and luckily he has been my saving grace. After one session the pain I felt was almost entirely eradicated. I went back two weeks later for a follow-up because while the pain was gone, he is teaching me so much about my body, movement, and alignment. Janu is not only incredible knowledgeable, but so caring and compassionate. He truly enjoys what he does which in turn makes our sessions really enjoyable. It is like hanging out with a friend...who can heal you. He genuinely wants to help . In the almost two hours we have spent together, he has taken the time show me how to walk, run, and stand more efficiently. He has even offered me advice and remedies to help my family member's struggling with a variety of health issues. If you are dealing with any ache or pain, I cannot recommend Janu enough! read more

I first saw Janu in September 2017 and from the first session, my life changed. Aside from life-long postural imbalances, I have suffered a number of serious accidents (including flying through a windshield while pregnant with my younger daughter in 2003). Through many years of referred pain and compensating - along with added impact and trauma from MMA training, playing tackle football, and other injuries from accidents and surgeries - I was in constant pain and discomfort, and would often be written off as a case study by most health professionals. Janu Vanier has eliminated most, if not all, of my deeply rooted pain. He has aided in retraining my terrible walking and breathing patterns. He has taught me exercises to find self-relief from some of my deeper pains and conditions. He has referred me to other healers when he felt appropriate in my gaining help and relief from then. He has coached me in regards to nutrition and supplement use. Most recently, he has even broken down the scar tissue in my right breast from the mastitis I suffered after my first pregnancy in 1999 - it has resulted in almost complete elimination of the pain and discomfort in that area, with the added bonus of achieving/regaining a fuller and more balanced physical appearance. Janu Vanier treats my daughters and me regularly these days for a vast number of different matters. I highly recommend that anyone and everyone, at the very least, go in for a consultation! If you have resigned yourself to living with pain, stop what you're doing and set up a time to meet with Janu Vanier. He is a master at figuring out how to eliminate pain in the body, even if it's been years of discomfort. I threw my back out and lived with constant pain in my low back and hip and after trying pretty much everything, I'd pretty much given up hope of not being in pain. In one session, I knew I'd found someone who could truly help. In 4 sessions focusing on my hips and feet, he was able to eliminate the pain. Janu is a true healer and artist at what he does and will go above and beyond to help get you out of pain. He also shows you how you can move to help your body function better. I cannot speak highly enough about Janu's intuitive healing. Very deep work in the connective tissue to realign your posture. This is not a spa massage, it can be uncomfortable at times but most times feels REALLY good. The results are huge. You feel younger, taller, freer. It's like an electric circuit that was broken gets repaired and energy is flowing through your body like a current. Definitely need to get 10 or 12 sessions because it's cumulative and needs to process over a couple months at least. But it is not superficial, it really lasts and is worth the investment. Janu is just incredible, having discovered rolfing just a year ago, I've seen 2 other rolfers prior to seeing Janu, and I can say he truly cares for my wellbeing. Hearing out all the problems and pains I've endured over the years, he has an intuition and compassion that surpasses his years. Now having seen him for 10 sessions, he's completely healed my shoulder dislocation from a snowboarding injury I had 8 years ago. Also working as a model and dealing with TMJ, the misalignment can show as the jawline may not look as sleek and chiseled. By way of background I should mention that I've spent the past 30 years seeking out solutions to my issues of skeletal imbalance and muscular tightness. I'm a journalist who has written about Rolfing and massage for national publications and in the process has gathered alot of information about the subject. Believe me when I tell you that Janu Vanier is more than just the best Rolfer I've ever seen (and I've seen almost a dozen of them). He's the best healer, period. The man is a one-stop psycho-physical shop for that which ails you. Part of his talent is how he comes at every question of body disharmony from about nine different directions, and brings the most up to date knowledge of complementary treatment modalities to the game--supplements, at-home exercises and a rainbow of secondary practices that help speed healing. But the foundation of his practice, of course, is how he works on bones and muscles with his hands, and in this, I've found, he's both tireless and precise as a surgeon. Janu has a vast knowledge of anatomy along with endless energy (I think he's a practitioner of mixed martial arts), and you get up off the table feeling your legs equal length, your chest opened, your breathing easier, and your head longer on your neck. Insight, empathy, commitment, dazzling hands and big heart--after our last session, where he resolved a long-standing issue of spinal pain that no one else had been able to, I told him that he should put a banner over the entrance to his studio reading: "Limp in, leap out." I originally saw Janu for a series of about eight sessions, now I just return when I'm experiencing issues periodically and he's able to knock out the problem in one or two. His work has had a profound effect in improving my posture, relieving pain, and eliminating long standing physical tensions. By correlation, it has also done a great deal for my mental and emotional well-being. He has an aptitude for identifying the root of the issue very quickly, and produces tangible results within a single session. For, at least, five years I'd been dealing with back, hip, knee and ankle pain. The back pain alone made it difficult to stand OR sit for more than 10 minutes. The persistent ankle pain was becoming problematic when climbing the stairs to my 3rd floor walk up and, overall, the situation was forcing me to lead a basically sedentary lifestyle in order to avoid pain. I was told that my back/hip problems were chronic; very concerning since my 'chronic' back condition was getting worse with each passing year. Having gone through the 10-series 15 years ago with a rolfer that had since left the area, I knew that I stood a reasonable chance that rolfing might be the only thing that would offer me some long term relief from the pain; only problem was that I needed to find another rolfer and knew no one that could make a recommendation. After a bit of yelp research, I decided to give Janu Vanier a try and, as far as I'm concerned, I took a chance on exactly the right person. Walking back to the path train after the first session, the reduction in the pain in my lower back was more than I could have hoped for and, when I arrived at my home, (and the 3 flights of stairs to my apartment) I marveled that the shooting pain that I was so used to feeling in my ankles as I climbed each step was almost nonexistent. Prior to working with Janu, often I would need as many as five chiropractic visits or two trips to the massage therapist in any given week... very expensive and ultimately futile as the relief from pain usually did not last more than a day or two, at most. I'm almost through the 10-series with Janu; (2 sessions to go) and my personal experience with him continues to be as close to miraculous as anything could possibly be. I am now extraordinarily and gratefully pain free. Put another way... I've gotten my life back. Janu's approach is thoughtful, calming, focused and caring. In addition to rolfing, in my case, he has also suggested simple exercises and techniques to improve posture, alleviate any muscle tension and increase energy flow. I completely agree with the other reviews on Janu. He helped correct my posture and eliminate my pain in my neck and rotator cuff in less than 10 sessions. I had been to see therapists for two years without significant results. Janu has a very gentle yet strong touch and takes time to listen to your body. He is a wonderful teacher, so you will learn ways to change your movements to improve outcomes. Janu's office is very modest and clean. He changes the sheets on his table after every client. Always has a candle or incense burning and rarely do you wait more than 5 minutes for your appointment since he allows himself ample time between clients. He is very easy to communicate with and respectful of scheduling policies and payments. Thanks to Janu, I walked down the aisle at my wedding feeling confident. Let me start by saying that I am practicing registered nurse and have over 13 years of experience. Janu Vanier has provided Rolfing therapy for me intermittently over the past 3 years. Three months ago I sustained a right foot injury during a soccer game by slide-tackling into a goal post. My right meta-tarsal was tense, felt locked up and was causing me constant pain. Janu was a miracle worker and taught me to correct my gait, strengthen my foot muscles and all but eliminated the pain/numbness that had been plaguing me for years. I came to him after going through the podiatrist/neurologist circuit to help treat my chronic foot numbness. I had been diagnosed with tarsal tunnel, the care for which is usually orthotics which further weaken the foot muscles and don't address the inherent problems that cause the pain. After a few sessions, not only did the pain subside, but I saw improved performance at the gym and a heightened sense of well-being. It has now been several months since my last session and the results are long-lasting and do not depend on constant visits, just mindfulness on my part to continue practicing the methods I learned. So I just recently had my first session with Janu and boy was I surprised. Janu focused on my upper body during our session, especially my shoulders and my left rib area. As a yogi, athlete and martial artist, he knows where the pockets of pain hide, and takes great care not just to alleviate the immediate discomfort, but to dig in to its source, so it doesn't come back the minute you step off a midtown curb. When I came to Janu, I had chronic yearlong shoulder and foot pain from kickboxing practice, and the general aches and pains that come with a writer's life, leaning over a keyboard. He dug in and pulled those knots apart with bare hands and intuition. As the days passed, my shoulder began to ache less and my toe began to wiggle freely, upon request. And, as a bonus, the day after a session, I don't feel bruised and battered the way some deep tissue work leaves me feeling. To my delight Janu Vanier convinced me to receive a bodywork session. Traditionally I resist most opportunities that are presented as a member of the massage averse minority. He affirmed that this was not traditional massage and after 20 to 30 minutes my gross skepticism was annihilated. To my amazement the difference I felt in the arm he had worked on verse my untouched side was undeniable. I felt the fluidity, lengthening and tension release like I have never felt. I recently incurred a few injuries (drove my face into the side of a panel van). After Janu worked on my injuries I was able to move with my full range of motion restored. When I searched for rolfers in NYC, I was initially skeptic. I had experience as a previous recipient of rolfing, thus was pretty selective. I did not want a practitioner who was going to "preach" to me alternative foods, drugs and practices. I wanted a person who was respectful of my boundaries and intuitive to my needs. Janu was the match. Prior to starting with Janu I'd sought chiropractic care with no relief. After the first session with Janu, though I came in with a pain level of 7-8 (scale 1-10) I left with a pain level of 3-4. He was able to identify areas of my body intuitively, without me guiding him. I always felt comfortable with Janu and knew that I could trust him to provide me with the care needed. That said, Janu has in subtle ways changed my views on things I previously was skeptic (alternative health). Based on his skills as a practitioner, and my faith in him as a holistic healer I am more open to a full range of alternative approaches. I have been through 3 sessions with Janu now, and I can tell you from very substantive results that he is a highly skilled practitioner of structural integration. As a fighter, pain and discomfort are things that one grows to live with. From joints to muscles to bones, it is an omnipresent part of the sport.
