So we've only been here since the end of March (I can't keep track of my life anymore). We are…read moregrateful for this place ! It's conveniently located near our son's preschool, and they take our insurance. I'll write our experience so far. !!!!!!!!Please note this is our experience so it may very per family !!!!!!!!! It is a little hard to get in touch by phone because a front desk staff doesn't exist. Email is probably easier. We were lucky to get an appointment pretty quickly thanks to having a referral from our pediatrician and a neuropsychological exam report ready to send. Our insurance works like this (we have BCBS; they ONLY take BCBS and Harvard Pilgrim): we pay a high copay for the first 15 sessions and then we pay our usual in network office copay. Some notes about the waiting room: When you come for your first meeting , this is not like a usual office...you are not greeted by a front desk staff and you don't check in. The therapist comes to greet you at your appointment time. There is a phone at the front you can use if late and it lets you know the therapists' direct lines to let them know you have arrived. No food or drink is allowed. There's plentiful seating. There are some books to look through while waiting. They have a large fish tank. There are keys for the bathroom (one for men's room and one for women's room). If you don't see the key someone is using it. Bathrooms are clean. The therapy sessions: The first two sessions are assessment sessions. After the second session , the therapist set goals for progress and then they let you know how many times a week will be needed. In our case we come twice a week. They do monthly progress reports via phone call. They are able to call both parents at work for a 3 way conference call. Conclusion: Our son is 4 and has ADHD and is a year behind on language development. We are very much looking forward to him using more words and thinking more abstractly. He is already making some progress so we are very happy (Thanks Sara!). They do a lot of play based therapy. We were a little worried about because our son's attention span is like 5 seconds long. She does a good job redirecting him. Some days are better than others. But he's slowly getting there. Our son enjoys coming (we call it Talking Game so that "therapy" doesn't stress him out so much haha). We are glad to have found this place!

Wow - just wonderful! Highly recommend…read more My 5 year old Autistic daughter just had 2 weeks of social skills group at Puzzle Pieces and we had the best experience. The class was small - 5 kids, and the instructor Jess was able to give each of them individual and group attention. My daughter came home everyday telling me about the fun she had - art, reading, singing, playing - you name it! One week was rainbow themed and the other under the sea themed. We're probably going to have to buy the book "Clark the Shark" since she loved it so much. My favorite thing about Puzzle Pieces is you can tell the staff care about the kids and are not forcing them to comply - instead following the kids leads. That's huge in the Autism services world and honestly this is the first place I have found that attitude at. They definitely live "connection not compliance" and meet the kids where they are. I've heard from parents of the other kids in this group that OT, PT, and Speech at Puzzle Pieces is great too. So so so happy we found this gem and will share the word with other parents of Autistic kids. I'm neurodivergent too & proud. So many centers are awful treating kids like less than, not letting them stim, and other awful. I will never put my kid through that - despite whatever pressure insurance/society puts on us.

I was told by Arden she didn't qualify for therapy because she ate foods of every texture (even though she's only eat 5-10 things total). Also told by her to just "have her sit in her chair at the table" which is exactly what we were struggling with (she wouldn't sit and eat). She didn't give us any tips on how to accomplish this but because she sat and listened to this stranger she assumed she would just "do it" at home. Was extremely unhelpful and downright condescending. Would not recommend.

Because of the evaluation and recommendations for one child we had him evaluated by our local integrated preschool and learned we qualified for additional services. Ongoing therapy sessions are efficient and are often a highlight of the week for my kids. We see Lauren and Carolyn and they do a great job with my kids. (6 year old boy and 3 year old boy). When my three year old doesn't want to cooperate (which happens) Carolyn is great at working through the tantrums and still getting some quality therapy in. We have recommended them to several friends and the strides our kids have made over time are extremely positive.

Her improvement over her time with Kai has been remarkable. We've noticed it at home, teachers have noticed it at school, and her updated neuropsych evaluation confirmed it. Even better, my kid *likes* working with Kai. Going to speech every week isn't a chore or a tantrum trigger... it's something she's cool with. My other kiddo came in with a different profile entirely and some pretty wonky speech sounds. The clarity of his speech has improved markedly in the time he's been working with Kai, and she works with him just as successfully. Having a provider that is fun, effective, organized, and flexible is an incredible thing. I feel so lucky to have found Kai to know that we've got the best support for our kids.

She was very highly recommended by our special ed, advocate for her experience working with autistic children. For my child, Kai's strength has been her work on social communication and language usage. For example, Kai is teaching my child how to make longer complex sentences, how to sequence and organize his thoughts, and how to make age-appropriate descriptions. Kai has successfully worked with my child on pronunciation too - my child has learned how to say certain forms of  "l", "r" and "th" that he could not do before. Kai also discusses with my child why learning these different parts of speech and language are essential. She listens to my child and fosters a back and forth dialogue. At the beginning of the pandemic, Kai seamlessly pivoted to virtual learning over Zoom. Kai is always well prepared for her sessions and is very good at communicating with parents. Kai is teaching my child to be a better communicator and to be better understood by his peers and his teachers. I really recommend Kai!
