Rogue - Great bar - Dive Bars Near Me - Jacksonville, Florida

This is a neat little place and a well kept secret. Read about it on here but we had a hard time finding it - it's easy to stroll right past. Drink selection is good, bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly and the ring toss game is a riot. According to the locals it gets very crowded after 11ish but we got there around 9 and there was a small-ish crowd. Looked to me more like the mob was right next door at the dance club, the name escapes me at the moment. Overall a very good time and we will definitely stop back again soon. read more

Wow. I really wish there was an option to give this place zero stars. Worst bar in Jax. Mind you, I've been to a few third world countries, and I liked the bars there about 10,0000x better than this bar. So let's start out with the layout. The place is a frickin sardine can. Narrow as it comes. Unfortunately their security staff is about as unprofessional as you could POSSIBLY IMAGINE. So the short white bouncer with hat continually pushed his way through the sardine can with his elbows, spilling every drink in sight. Finally my cousin asked him if he could possibly stop spilling everyone's drinks, and that didn't go over so well! So the rookie security crew came over and kicked out my cousin. We were with about 12 people so naturally we all left. Great move guys! The only hot girls in the whole sardine can were with us. So we went back to Mellow Mushroom which was where we were before, we had an awesome server there - Sarah - and left the Rogue as a sad distant memory that would only be remembered briefly as an awful mistake. Needless to say we had a much better time at MM. In summary, The Rogue takes the cake as one of the 2-3 worst bars I've ever been to (and I love dive bars, check out Cantina Marina in DC if you like dive bars too), and I will never ever go back. Still stunned by what a bad experience it was. The layout of the place combined with the novice security team drag this place to the bottom of Jacksonville's bar scene. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it is so much fun to do the ring toss game. The problem is that they have very specific rules regarding the game. If the ring is not fully down the bottle of the neck it doesn't count. Seriously? A hanging Chad should count for 2, but instead it is 0. The fact that the bartender gave me a hard time about the shot I deserved, this place gets 1 star. read more

This is a place everyone should visit. The loft and the Rogue are connected through the back entrances. It's a small dive bar that seems a little more upscale than the Loft, but is a really down to earth bar when your inside interacting with everyone. I absolutely love the decor and intimate quaint concept of the bar. I met the owner (he owns both theLoft and Rogue), and he brought me over to the Rogue for some shots and bought me a handful of rings. Apparently you buy these rings and you can toss them at the liquor bottles on the back wall of the bar. The ones you ring around the bottles you get to have a shot out of it. Fun game, addicting, and hard especially the more drunk you get. read more

Can honestly tell you that I will never be going back to this place I was there July 30 2016 with a large amount of my family members. It was so packed you could barely walk through and one of the employees was shoving people out of his way to try and walk around, I made a joke with him about being so aggressive with me and he turned around and screamed at me but he was just trying to do his job, after he screamed at me and my cousins and a few other people that same employee punched me straight in the chest after flicking me off. Can say that's the first time I've been assaulted by an employee of a company while I was their patron. I understand that everyone's job can be stressful but that's just downright unacceptable. My husband and I went here after dinner last night and had a a great time. The bartender and owner both were easy to talk to and seemed genuinely interested in their customers. Either Jacksonville doesn't use Yelp or this place is supposed to be a secret because EVERYBODY is at the Rogue (or the loft which is essentially the same place). I know what most people would say about this place, that there are "too many hipsters". But hipsters are in now so put down your walking cane and go hang out with some attractive people. Actually, bring the walking cane. Hipsters love props. Once I dressed up like a superhero and they didn't charge cover. Definitely a staple bar in the king street area and a good place to pregame before The Loft. (If you don't know what the loft is, you are missing out big time.) Had the security guard threaten me as I was exiting, while showing me a tattoo on his lower arm claiming he was part of Hell's Angels and would find me and the men with me. This after I was trying to explain to another security employee that an employee had both shoved me roughly while moving through the crowd and spilled half a margarita on my suede shoes which had been borrowed from my mother for a funeral we had attended that day. They were in the process of kicking others out, sure. Being a security guard is a difficult job and if you can't treat your customers with grace and respect and can't control your hyper masculinity issues, you should be in a different line of work honestly. Could not implore more strongly that no one attend this hallway of a dive bar. Overcrowded, rude staffed, and honestly the shittiest margarita I've had in months. read more

Love this place! It's pretty small but its really chill which is why I like it. The music they play is on point to. They play Taking Back Sunday, Say Anything, Brand New,, ect. They serve their drinks in mason jars which is pretty unique. read more

This seems to be a really fun local spot. I came here last weekend as a guest (I'm from Georgia), so I wasn't really sure what to expect. This place was within walking distance of my friend's place, so that meant plenty of drinking and no worry of driving home, so I was a-okay with that! The place wasn't TOO crowded (at least not what I'm used to seeing), and there didn't seem to be a lot of sleazy people there. Mostly youngish, early twenties to early thirties. A large liquor selection, and also a pretty neat ring toss game that costs a couple of dollars to play, but you get a shot if you score. I thought that was a really neat idea, and since it's pretty cheap to play, if you've got a knack for it you could get a great bang for your buck if you can score. We also got some chips and guac here, and the chips were super salty (better to soak up the booze), and the guac surprisingly good. Didn't try the tacos, but in retrospect for all the praise they were getting, I probably should have! read more

I guess I was a little hard on both places, both the Loft and the Rogue. Now, honestly, my mind isn't too much changed about either place, it's just that I've been to the Rogue a decent amount now, so it feels a little hypocritical to not just say "yeah, it's pretty fun." Um, also they give you rings to throw onto the bottles on the bar to win shots. I apparently had success one night. I got three. People said that was a lot and I'll tell you that all I did was just not aim for any certain bottle and threw all 5 or 6 one right after another. Wait, I will say the Loft is just way too loud. I was trying to talk there the other night and it was just a yell fest. And it's not like it's really that dancy either. Were you there for New Year's? I wasn't. I was on a rooftop vibing out with a group that included a transgendered perfume expert. I just got done watching "I'm Still Here," and while it was an interesting idea, I think it could have been funnier. Love the Rogue. We always pregame here for a few hours before going to the LOFT, They give you 5 mason jar lids for 2 bucks and if you ring them on any bottle in the section of alcohol they've set up for you to win, you get a free shot of that liquor. You can shoot for regular, pricey, or the top shelves, so make them count. Sometimes you don't win anything, but my friends and I have hit 4 or 5 rings and essentially got 20+ dollars worth of shots for 5 bucks. Definitely worth it. The Rogue Root is my favorite drink here. It is Pinnacle whipped cream vodka, root beer, and ice mixed in a mason jar. It is so good and even thirst quenching. And will also get you pretty drunk after a couple.
