All aspects of working with All Decks was excellent, from beginning to end. The workmanship of the…read morefinished deck exceeded our expectations, and every person we encountered was pleasant to work with. Our project was the installation of an 8' x 11' elevated attached deck. I had whittled my initial list of contractors down to six before choosing All Decks. Cost was competitive but was not the lowest bid. This was the third deck in this location. The previous two were wood. This time we chose to have a composite deck installed, to not have a stairway, and to have the area underneath the deck protected from rain. As this was an elevated deck, it was covered by municipal code requirements more stringent than when the previous two decks were built. We worked with Adam during our initial contact, and in designing the deck. We chose Dekorator planking, Trex handrails, and the Trex RainEscape system. We wanted to minimize supporting posts, as a competing bid would have used 6 posts, and we had seen decks on houses like ours that had 5 to 6 posts. All Decks was able to use only 2 posts by having larger-size (6"x6") posts and by attaching one side of the deck to our cantilevered 2nd floor. The All Decks showroom was extremely helpful in choosing materials and colors, and in evaluating the RainEscape system relative to alternative underdeck rain coverings. Kendall did thorough work when he visited to do the detailed yard survey required by code. The level of detail in the resulting documents was unexpected and illuminating. The three-man team led by Chris who put up the deck was professional and unobtrusive. A special challenge was attaching one side of the deck to our cantilevered 2nd floor as the current municipal code requires an exceptionally robust connection. Installing this connection required removing several plank-and-tongue grooves from under the overhang of the cantilevered 2nd floor, which is very difficult without causing damage. I was skeptical that it could be done and was pleasantly surprised to see the excellent appearance of the re-installed planking. (As expected, I repainted the reinstalled planks myself.) As for the steel-bar-reinforced concrete footings, Chris meticulously set their height so as to enable the potential future installation of a ground-level deck made from pavers. The gentleman who delivered and picked up materials and the portable toilet was discreet and careful. Crystle ensured smooth communications for scheduling, billing, etc. We are very satisfied with the All Decks team and their work.

They were affordable, knowledgeable, and very willing to work with my needs and my budget. They were able to obtain the permits that were needed which is an important and valuable service. They also took care of the structural engineering that was needed to make sure that we had sufficient support for the deck. Their showroom is very helpful. There are samples and some mockups of decks, railings, lighting, etc. There are lots of options and the staff was great about explaining the options but not pressure-upselling. I felt comfortable choosing the materials and extras with their help. After the project was finished, there was one support post that didn't look finished to me when I looked at it from our dining room window. All Decks was great about coming out. After seeing and understanding what I wanted to upgrade, they were able to install a matching trim piece that made the post look complete. The deck has been installed now since Oct 2024. It still looks great and I couldn't be happier.

Doug never…read morewent to the house himself, so his estimate and plans were solely based on my AI rendering of an idea we liked. The quality of the job was poor. The final result did not match his renderings of the project. He never offered any ideas to improve our idea, rather just went with it...even though I am not a deck designer. The patio ended up being much, much lower than the deck so what we ended up with is a sunken patio that looks silly. They had to add a couple sections of stairs because of the change in height. The work was done quickly with exposed corners and facades. I had to ASK for them to 'finish' the edges. The communication between Doug, his team, and us (their client), was extremely poor. Anytime I emailed Doug with a question, I would get abrupt, condescending, and rude replies. The feeling I got is Doug was very overwhelmed, out of touch with his projects and does not seem to care about customer service at all. Working with NW Decks was one of the most unpleasant experiences with a service provider I've ever had.

The guys that did the work were on time, helpful, and extremely hard working. We get compliments on the deck from everyone that comes over. I would give them five stars, except the follow up questions I had after the work was done, remained unanswered even after couple of follow up emails. I'm a big believer in open communication so it bummed me out I didn't get a reply (related to ongoing care) but I've googled enough to figure out the do's and don't of composite decking. So take that for what it's worth to you. They do superb work, though definitely not the cheapest. You get what you pay for, and I'd use them again.

After getting a few quotes for our deck project, Heilman Deck & Fence really stood out. Andy came…read moreby and actually walked me through the whole process -- not just what he'd do, but why he'd do it a certain way. He explained where it made sense to invest a little more and where we could cut back without sacrificing quality. No pushy sales pitch, no checkbox quoting -- just someone who clearly knows his craft and cares about doing the job right. I had done some research ahead of time and knew my existing deck had a structural quirk that would matter during the rebuild -- Andy was the only one of the three contractors who caught it. That made the decision easy. His quote wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but it was fair and came backed with great reviews and a clean WA contractor's license (which, shockingly, not all of them had). That sealed the deal for us. We ended up completely rebuilding two decks using TimberTech PVC -- a smaller 10'x10' one, and a 26'x12' deck that's 20 feet in the air with two staircases and a landing. The whole project took about 3.5 weeks from demo to final touches. Andy's CAD drawings were spot-on. When surprises came up (like discovering the house's floor joists ran in the opposite direction), Andy just handled it -- added a beam, footings, and posts without delay or extra cost. Same deal with a couple small punch list items at the end (a dinged downspout, some siding, trim details). No fuss, no runaround -- his crew just showed up and made it right. The build crew was great to work with -- friendly, respectful, and meticulous. They kept the site clean and were clearly proud of their work. You could see it in the precision of the cuts and the fact that everything was perfectly straight, square, and level. Even the more delicate custom cuts -- like a half rip-cut board to fit under the house -- were nailed with crazy accuracy making it look like the boards extend under the house. Bottom line -- I'd 100% recommend Andy and his team at Heilman to anyone in the Seattle/Eastside area. If I ever need more deck or fence work (though this deck will probably outlive me), I won't even bother getting other quotes. These guys are the real deal.

We asked a few companies about finishing up our project and Andy, Amanda, and Team were happy to help. They provided valuable insight on things our old contractor missed, they communicated clearly and consistently. Their team was incredibly nice, showed up when they said they would and did everything in half the time originally estimated. I only wish we started our whole project with them. Lesson learned! Big thanks to Amanda, Andy, Tim, Chris and crew!
