I was seen By Mr. Kasendorf on the 27 of April. I've been in Comp for almost 2 years. I've been seen by 5 different doctor countless times. never getting more then 15 mins with them. 1 doctor even retired and i was moved to a temp as well. Each doctor saying they are going off the others recommendation in a circle all while Comp insurance denies everything. no one every really explaining to me what may be going on with my arm but the bear bones descriptions. i didn't know what to expect but let me tell you the first thing the Doctor here did, after saying hello was to explain to me now he was here for me. That today was about me, how we will be getting to recovery and how that was all i needed to focus on. once he went over the paper work i could see what he was reading was as mush of a bother to him as it was me. To finally have someone that understands may have been the most relief I've had since my injury. in just 45 mins i had a set recovery plan with treatment that was going out to be schedule that cant be blocked and for the first time i see a way to getting the use of my arm back. on top of all of that where the other doctor said it was this issue come to find out there is a very common other reason i could be having my issues. Doctor here took just a few minutes to explain how the area works and why it could be one or a combination of both. knowing this i change how i rest my arm thinking i was defending the area but was pushing right on the other side where i may have been aggravating the other part causing the same pain in the area. Don't let distance from the Doctor here be a factor, He is worth the extra mile you may need to go to be seen by him like i did. When your health is on the line this man will do all he can to get you to the best spot you can and he's very down to Earth easy to talk with and even with 20 years in the trade still treats people like people. cant say that about my surgeon none the Comp Doctor. I think, Dr. Kasendorf is the best of all professionals in pain management, knowledgeable, helpful, and besides all of that - a wonderful human being, with a great sense of humor. I have been a patient of his practice for over a decade (on a monthly basis for so many years!) I'm suffering from severe chronic pain in many areas of the body, and require a lot of medications and injections. I cannot thank him enough for his care and support. He treats you in the most respectful way, kindly addresses all questions, trying to find the best care for your condition, and never afraid to change the approach and/or to try something else. As for his front office, I'm surprised to hear that somebody had a negative experience. Personally, I have never had a problem with scheduling/rescheduling visits, handling my prescriptions and insurance needs. Dr. Kasendorf is very nice. A kind, caring physician whose OMT helped my neck, and whose pain management practices are considerate. However, his office staff are the most cold, curt, unsympathetic healthcare workers I have ever come across. I am recovering from brain cancer, orthopedic surgery, and learning to walk on prosthetics again, but by the way the office manager treats me you would think I was in a correctional facility and not a healthcare facility. Initially, my interaction with Dr. Kasendorf was extremely positive. He is or was very understanding, compassionate, empathetic, and helpful as he was able to be. Over the years, he has degraded to be disengaged from his feelings and more interested in other pursuits rather than his practice and his patients. Whereas I always saw Dr. Kasendorf unless he was unavailable, I was told that I could only see his PA and that the only people that he was seeing were new patients and patients with procedures. He has also reduced his office hours and is only in the office two days a week. I am so extremely hurt and absolutely devastated that I had to go to another pain doctor to find help. I was told on my last appointment with Dr. Kasendorf that he was unable to do anything more for me when it came to not only medication but also procedures that could help my extreme pain . To put it into perspective, whereas there's a pain scale that goes from one to 1 to 10, I suffer from extreme constant pain of 10 to 100, living in constant agony. I have permanent damage to my spine and I also suffer from other illnesses. I am so sad that such a wonderful person could change into what I saw in my last few visits. It grieves me to have to change my five star review into a one star, but I can no longer be silent, and I have moved on from his practice. I do also want to mention what a horrible staff he has. I have been going to Dr. Kasendorf for at least 5 years. He has helped me though my worst. When I first moved to California, my old pain doctors had me on way too many opioids. I explained to Dr. K that I was scared to ever be prescribed so many again. We have worked really well together to find what does help my pain, which includes some narcotics but also surgery, anti inflammatory meds, physical therapy, surgery, injections and a variety of other treatments. He is always willing to try something new, but also let me guide what I feel comfortable doing. Also, he has never once questioned my pain during the periods between surgery where I did need to increase my pain med use, and he celebrates my wins every time I'm able to take less hard meds. To have someone tell me I'm not crazy and to really try to help me get to the least pain and most active life has been amazing. He takes time with each patient and while that sometimes means appointments can run long/behind, would you rather have a doc that didn't listened and rushed you out of the room? It usually takes me 30-45 minutes to get to his office, but after having many different pain docs over the years, he truly is the best I ever had. His staff is expanding and it's easier to get in now as well. Also, I have not had the same negative experiences with the office staff that others have. They have always been friendly and as helpful as they can be. read more

Worst experience with this doctor and his staff. Every appt I had he must have ran out of the office 5 times claiming he was helping other patients. This was during MY appointment. He gave an intern my phone number without my permission. She called and wanted info on my disease for her studies. What doctor does that??? He returned my call one evening and told me to hurry up the conversation because he had a date with his wife. His secretary was the RUDEST person I have ever met. I think Dr Kasendorf is awesome. I've worked with him on and off (as needed) for over a year now. If I were only reviewing him, he would definitely have 5 stars. However, I have to remove a star because the woman who claims to be his office manager, Diana, is abrupt/snippy and rude and doesn't seem to be able to take ownership or accountability for what happens in the office. If I were just reviewing her, she would get 0 stars. I will share what happened in one situation... I was trying to schedule a nerve block Dr K had recommended due to pain so debilitating that I am stuck in bed 85-90% of the time. Diana is apparently the only one who could schedule the appointment. Over a period of 10 days, I had left a message for her with the receptionist (who assured me I would get a callback the next day) plus had left 2 or 3 other voicemail messages. When I called back again, Diana was in the office so I stayed on hold until she was available. When I finally spoke to Diana, I let her know about the multiple messages I had left. She spoke in a defensive manner and told me she had only gotten one message from me, and had only received it that morning. I then asked whether she had been able to get the procedure authorized with insurance. She advised me she had messaged the anesthesiologist who would be doing the block on 1/18 (it was now 1/28) and she couldn't move forward until he gave her the procedure codes. She didn't apologize for the delays in responding to my message or apologize that it had been 10 days and she had not followed up with the anesthesiologist. She said "the best she could do" was to message the anesthesiologist again. After that, I told her I was concerned that my messages hadn't gotten to her, and I asked to speak to the receptionist to figure out why my messages didn't get to Diana (in hopes of preventing it from happening again). Diana then said I didn't need to speak to anyone else because she (Diana) was the office manager. I then told her that if she was the office manager, she should want to look into the issue with the messages. She then told me I was making it hard for her to help me. (Maybe because I was telling her about a problem? I was calm when I brought it up to her.) The conversation did go downhill after that when I told her she wasn't being a good office manager if she didn't want to resolve the message problem (not my finest moment). Then she just got more defensive and more rude, and when we got off the phone, I felt so beat up and disregarded that I ended up sobbing. Every interaction since then with her has been difficult. My husband even got upset after having to deal with her (and he is usually a very calm and patient person. Diana is the main gatekeeper when it comes to getting in touch with the doctor. I see a lot of doctors (due to chronic illness) and many of their office staff have quirks that I've learned to work with successfully. But I have not been able to do that with Diana. So on my next visit, I will bring this up with Dr K and let him know that perhaps Diana would be better suited to a job where she doesn't interact with patients, especially given that patients who are going to see him are in chronic pain, and that they need more empathy than the typical patient population. read more

Rejection from USCIS is high especially they are more keen and detailed esp. with the latest government. Who would I believe, the secretary or the immigration lawyer? Ofcourse, the latter. 1 Star - STAFF. if i can give a huge asteroid, I would. As dark as her attitude. 0 for you. 4 Stars - Dr. Kasendorf To begin with, the whole conversation with the said staff, we, our side was very polite and voice was never raised or anything. Staff attitude was like she was on her menopausal stage. I give 1 star mainly because the staff and the whole procedure of THEM following the right procedure as MANDATED by USCIS is far from what is RIGHT. Why bother being accredited by the USCIS if you don't follow the rules on sealing an important document. Knowing that the government right now is very keen, sensitive to a point, very detailed that one wrong move, you are out of the game. The staff, the one usually over the phone, I won't mention names, SHE IS BEYOND RUDE. I am working with an immigration lawyer, and my lawyer, when he received the packet from me with the medical examination sealed with a sticker of Dr. Kasendorf on the flap. He said, they aren't following the right procedure. My lawyer explained that if you become a USCIS approved DOCTOR. You attest on following the STEPS that the USCIS requires. I had to go to another doctor and SPEND money again, out of pocket, just for the new doctor to SEAL IT PROPERLY. The secretary of this clinic said to me, "Oh? Then let your lawyer call us... and we will tell him this is how we do it.". Secretary and Lawyer, not a good combination for a RATIONAL talk. With this kind of attitude, I don't even know why she is there? Respect begets respect. She doesn't deserve to be thus this BELOW 0 rating. I mean, I said I can pay the admission fee if necessary for them to reseal it the RIGHT way, the initials of the doctor on the flap sealed with a clear tape from end to end to make it not looked tampered. At the back of the envelope, there should be a note FOR USCIS ONLY, DO NOT OPEN. The envelope that they use is as huge as xray of lungs film. Would you think USCIS would try and evaluate and have all the time in the world to consider your file?? NOPE. One error and the whole process is gone. Time wasted. The whole procedure of sealing is wrong, the folder is wrong, the secretary is so rude. Why even accredit yourself if you don't follow the procedure. The secretary claims there are no complaints received given their "this is how we do things" procedure vs USCIS procedure. You ATTESTED and you are UNDER USCIS but then don't follow what was asked by USCIS? Would you, as a client WANT TO RISK the whole process of you immigrating to deal with this just because the secretary says, "well, there were no complaints or what. This is how we do things"..... Don't waste your money. Go find a legit doctor who would follow the right procedure as directed by USCIS. It is a waste of time and effort as well as energy talking to that rude secretary. I came on here to write a review and was shocked to see the negative comments that people have posted! One particular statement that I do want to address is the comment from a woman who gave her "transcript" of her immigration appointment with Dr. Kasendorf. I think there was a massive language barrier as Dr. Kasendorf would NEVER say something to a patient about he, himself, being "easy"! He is 100% professional and if this was actually true, you'd see more comments like that on his reviews. Also, it is a very common reply when someone asks to see your smile (esp doctors and dentists or to confirm identity) that they say beautiful. ! Do you want him or any other doctor to tell you that you're "ugly"? Getting that out of the way, Dr. Kasendorf is phenomenal! He goes above and beyond what any of my past pain doctors have done for me! He is thorough, patient, kind, and so compassionate! I've had a rough go of it my whole life and Dr. Kasendorf has never given up on me-especially with the many limitations we have on the medications I can use. He allows me to make decisions for my body and never forces any medication or treatment on me. He wants his patients to work WITH him. We know our bodies the best and he is open to any and all comment and is open to talking to you about articles or treatment plans that you might have read or heard about and thought it might be something that might work for you! This doctor is a complete joke. Now that he got sued back a few years ago for overprescribing meds he is scared to prescribe legitimate patients medication. Not only did he tell me to take a certain amount and then wrote down my prescription incorrectly but now I'm made to suffer due to it and out of my medications. After a few years of treatment with Norco 10-325 Roger cut my meds in half. Those years of use were. Non-episodic. Cut my meds in half after I returned from Pilgrimage walk with twice the pain. Then the newest trick gave me Codeine #3. I was not compliant as it was too weak and also loaded with NSAID. He fired me from treatment with opiates despite a chronic painful condition of no cartilage below the talks in the ankle. He is afraid the DEA is going to threaten his practice. Suggest you find an MD with the integrity to stand by his patients and stand by his past decision to prescribe opiates. read more

Extraordinary! Dr. Kasendorf exemplifies everything you could ever want in a pain doctor. He is personable, kind, compassionate, and laser-focused on hearing you describe your problems and addressing them. I am a repeat patient who has been treated for chronic tendinitis in various locations by Dr. Kasendorf, with both PRP and stem cells. I have gotten life-changing relief from pain. In fact, I am so thrilled that the stem cell injections done recently for severe hamstring tendinitis behind the knees completely eliminated all the pain that I am going back in for another session of stem cells to address tendinitis in my shoulders and right forearm. He may be busy sometimes but definitely doesn't ever make you feel rushed. He listens then goes over all your options to take to manage your pain. I have had 2 amniotic stem cell injections from him and he just about gave me his cost on the medication because insurance doesnt cover it. Dr. Kasendorf solved my problem and removed my pain. After seeing three Dr.'s for pain after I fell on my left hip from playing pickelball, I saw Dr. Kasendorf for my intense pain. He was focused, asking me a lot of questions, evaluated how I was moving (or not moving), did an ultrasound and found an inflamed muscle and inflamed tissue in a joint. He used the ultrasound to guide the needle where he injected a steroid in three locations. Dr. Kasendorf is super focused in finding the problem and doing his best to help you. His office staff is good at making things work. He even gave me a lollipop before I walked out the door. Good man. read more

I have had chronic pain, due to many cervical neck fusions, since 2004. Most all the pain doctors I have seen in the past, only had medication & spinal injections to offer for my pain. The many spinal injections, of various types (some very painful), never worked. Also, it was found that a lot of meds do not process properly in my system, (don't work normally), so I'm always in search of alternatives. Over 4 yrs now, I've been seeing Dr Roger Kasendorf. He is the ONLY dr that has tried other modalities to help with my pain. From manipulation, specific muscle injections (to break up knots in shoulder muscles), traction units, etc. His policy is to "make you feel better leaving than you did when you arrived". He has accomplished this many times over! He has diagnosed problems that NO other pain dr has done! (It helped to explain why certain things were happening, in my body. Like the fact that I have Hyper-mobile Joint Syndrome & part of my pain was that my first ribs continues to dislocate. Which No other dr Or therapist had ever identified!) Since that discovery, he has been working on the muscles that are pulling the ribs out-of-place, rather than throwing more pain meds at me. It sometimes is a wait to see him, but he's worth the wait. (As other good drs ,can be). He has never rushed our visits & listens to problems, so he can try to solve them. If needed, he will do research to educate himself on the issue or refer you to a specialist. He is kind, considerate, and intent on trying to help. I feel some of the other reviews that were posted, were unfair. No dr's office can know everything about everything! (ie: how every facility wants there paperwork filled out, etc.) Compared to other drs I've seen in the past, his office staff does a good job. They are human, also, (no one is perfect). As for the comments on the manager, it takes 2 people to communicate! It's not only the office staffs responsibility to know what is needed, paperwork wise. I needed an USCIS authorized doctor to perform a medical evaluation for my Green Card process. I called a couple of places and Dr. Kasendorf was the cheapest BY FAR around me, so I decided to schedule an appointment with me. Dr. Kasendorf was very nice, TOO NICE in my humble opinion. I will transcribe here snippets of our conversation during the appt so you take your own conclusion. Dr. K: Interesting, there are a lot of Brazilians in San Diego, right? Take off you mask, let me see how you look. (I take off my mask, he takes his) Dr. K: Beautiful! Dr. K: see, filling up the immigration paperwork is super easy (...) This medical examination process is super easy, easy like me! I guess we now know, why he's so cheap... But wait, there's more! I had to do some lab exams before I could get the medical evaluation with Dr. K. My exams were ready on Saturday, Sunday Scripps system was hacked and Dr. K's staff did not have access to my exams. I needed this medical evaluation within 2 weeks. Dr. K's staff was not helpful AT ALL. They kept telling me to call back to see if the system was back. After a week I decided to go to Scripps lab, which told me the office could call to the main Scripps lab and get the results. Dr. K's office told me that was not possible and send me to labcorp to redo my exams. When the second set of exams was finally ready, a day before I needed the medical evaluation, I called the staff again and they told me "OK, I'll try to contact the main lab to get your lab exams". WHAT? THEY COULD HAVE DONE THAT FROM THE BEGGINING? WHY DID THEY MAKE ME REDO THE EXAMS THEN??? Then I told them "no, I redid the exams at labcorp" and then they finally provided me with my medical evaluation paperwork. Anyway, everything wrong with this doctor and staff. Once again, we know now why they charge half the price of other USCIS authorized doctors... read more

After years of struggling with spine pain, I finally sought help with from Dr. Kasendorf. After his friendly assistant, Diana, had compiled my med. records from my various surgeons, I was brought in for an evaluation. Dr. Kasendorf paged through my entire file (which was no brief task). He was quite patient as we discussed my difficulties. He is not the type of dr. to hurry you in & out without listening to what pains you. He utilizes several modalities to treat pain. Trigger point injections, spinal manipulations, and prescription medications are used as needed. I cannot tell you how dramatically his treatment has changed my quality of life. I am able to exercise again; I can sit & stand for long durations; and, I can get a full night of sleep most nights. I recommend that you visit him if you are struggling with pain and haven't found adequate relief thru physical therapy, chiropractic, or acupuncture. He has an upbeat, pleasant demeanor and is confident that he can help you. He will listen to your complaints objectively. His staff is professional and courteous. Roger Kasendorf, has been my pain management doctor for 1 year now and I do truly feel I owe it up to him to leave a review! I was in an major car accident 2 years ago, after already having a bad back injury and 3 surgeries previous of the car accident! Ive basically had pain since I was 16, years old, however nothing was as bad as my accident 2 years ago! First of all doctor Kasendorf is the first doctor who has actually been concerned and cared for me as a patient!! Many people suffer with pain and I know that I'm by far not the only one!! The most I can say without making it too personal is that doctor Kasendorf has made it his personal mission to bring me back to a normal quality of life, and not making medication my only temporary cure! It's surprising to see anything but positive reviews on here for doctor Kasendorf. My mom has a rare pain condition that she has seen several doctors for over the past 15 years. I have accompanied her on most of her monthly appointments. We started seeing doctor Kasendorf about 2 years ago and he is no doubt the best doctor we've seen. He spends so much time with my mom and asks questions about her condition that actually indicate his concern. Additionally, when he gives her prescriptions he himself goes online and prints out coupons for her medications. Anyway, I am sure my mom would have even more raving things to say about why she loves him. Despite being is chronic pain, she leaves happy and feeling recognized. read more

Dr. Kasendorf is one of the best physicians that I have ever been lucky enough to come across. I have to say that it was a blessing that we were able to get him to stay in California, from his native New York. If I could give 100 stars instead of 5, I would. Some pain management doctors are very quick, just writing their Rx & out the door you go~ This is definitely "not" the case with Dr. Kasendorf. He takes the time to talk to the patient, review meds & health of the patient & best yet...he is very positive ~ always with a smile on his face! Also with this particular physician, pain management is not just about handing out Rx's....of which Dr Kasendorf is very conservative with these medications. Dr. Kasendorf is interested in the patient's welfare, treatment & activities.... designing a plan around each particular person's needs & goals. For me, he designed a treatment plan that included of course my Rx's, Injections if needed, spinal manipulations & he wants updates on my physical activities....making sure the patient is not only treated, but that the patient has met some goals & seeing that the patient continues to have future goals & that they are continuing to be reached & met. Also I have to compliment his staff for their thoroughness.....& I mean Diana in particular! She is always friendly & right on top of everything. There have been many times that my insurance has failed to cover new medications. Because of this, prior authorizations are usually needed. But....I have had 3 instances where I have been contacted by an outside pharmacy that is willing to mail me a new Rx & the Rx's were covered because Diana took the time to get the prior authorizations through. Amazingly this has happened by the time that I've reached my house, after an hours drive. All 3 Rx's were approved & on their way to me! The ONLY good thing to come out of having to endure A. Steiner's "medical practice" was being treated by Dr. K. He is genuine, caring and immediately makes you feel comfortable. You actually feel like someone is on your side when meeting with him. From what I saw and heard during my final appointment at A. It has taken me weeks to write this review for Dr. Kasendorf because I get emotional every time I start to write... I came to Dr. Kasendorf nearly nine months ago and I was dying, physically, mentally, and emotionally. After having broken my spine and neck in an accident 10 years ago, I was raising my daughter in an abusive relationship, completely bed-ridden, and completely alone. I was being overprescribed Fentanyl, as well as many other powerful narcotics. I was still in excruciating pain on every possible level. I met Dr. Kasendorf through my former physician and knew, immediately, that he was brilliant. He was also kind, compassionate, and genuine, too, which I never could have known. He understood, immediately, that I needed different medications, which he changed during our very first visit. I never had believed that those medications could possibly work... Dr. Kasendorf has not only given me my life back, he has given me a life that I could only dream of. He suggested yoga, which I began (in pain and very reluctantly) 10-15 minutes per day. Now, I am physically and mentally able to do, 3-4 HOURS per day! I truly hope that, if you are reading this review, you will simply give Dr. Kasendorf's office a call and schedule your initial appointment. His staff is incredibly respectful, kind and smart, and they are truly (and genuinely) compassionate, just as is "Dr. K" (as he is so fondly, and frequently, referred). If you are in physical pain, you may have nothing to lose, just as I felt, nearly nine months ago... When I say that I was dying, I meant it. I was 85 pounds, could barely walk, and had stopped eating. I now weigh 107 pounds and I'm stronger than I've ever been in my entire life. But I would NOT have my life at all, had it not been for Dr. Kasendorf's brilliance, medical knowledge, compassion and kindness. I want to thank Dr. Kasendorf on behalf of my daughter, my family, and I, his staff, Diana and Emily, for giving me this second chance at life. Called 3 weeks in advance and because my doctor didn't send the referral first, Kasendorf's office became rude and delayed the paperwork for 3 weeks. When I called to find out why I was told the doctor would review my case tomorrow when he gets in. They then immediately called my doctor and said "No" out of spite. Kudos to Kasendorf! To make a long story short, I climbed the Southern California neurologist tree only to be sentenced ten years ago in a Loma Linda University room paneled with a retinue of this discipline with the blunt diagnosis of something called peripheral neuropathy and the frightening prognosis that no more than half of sufferers find relief. Peripheral what? What the f*ck is neuropathy? Well, after five years of the inexorable loss of my tactile sense and its replacement by the overwhelming, continuous pain of swelling and numbness insidiously creeping up all my limbs--from toes and fingers to hands and feet, I truly was f*cked by a malady that is to the sense of touch what blindness is to sight or deafness is to hearing. Over the course of the first ten--yes 10!--years of my life sentence of eternal pain, neurologists and anesthesiologists from the California Desert Cities to San Diego told me (copay after copay) that if neurontin, lyrica, cymbalta, savella, acupuncture, cold laser therapy, and Mayan shamans don't do the job, the only options left are monthly prescriptions of narcotics and urine samples that result in increasing tolerance and dangerous dosages of the likes of fentanyl, percoset, methadone, oxycodone. And over the course of that same period, I degenerated from an active, trim, healthy Golds Gym bodybuilder to a grayed-out, overweight, crippled curmudgeon whose only companion was an adjustable quadcane! Well, last Thursday, June 11, 2015, everything radically and suddenly changed at the initial appointment with Dr. Kasendorf who asserted that, in fact, other alternative therapies both medicinally and surgically are available including nerve blocks, lidocane infusions, mexiletine, and, finally, horizant (gabopentin)--a month's supply of samples the good doctor provided me forthwith. Consequently, by the time I arrived home from his office, I was in a state of thanksgiving that the explosive agonizing foot pain that has destroyed my social and professional life was substantially assuaged. Imagine what it's like to be able to walk only with support due to unrelieved and excruciating pain for five--yes, 5--unbroken years, and then, after a one hour drive home through SD's rush hour traffic, you're able to throw away not only your quadcane! However, Lazarus I'm not. Swelling and numbness I still suffer substantially. But, unless there's some unforeseeable drug tolerance level to horizant, Dr. Kasendorf has not only changed my life, but the lives of everyone I know--sufferers and non-sufferers alike! Again: Kudos to Kasendorf! I'm sorry to see the single star ratings, but perhaps a little more patient patience would have surely brightened a cluster's luster! That said, there are some considerable copays and expenses over that same 10-year period of gratuitous suffering from which equity will demand more than a few refunds! read more

. I to would love to give Dr. Roger Kasendorf more then 5 stars. But alas I can't. I was a Firefighter/Paramedic for 25 years until I had to take early due to cancer.So I have worked with doctors a lot I now have stage 3 metastatic breast cance now in my bones and lung. DR. Kasendorf has been with me all the way. .He comes into the room with a smile on his face and looks you straight in your eyes and listens truly listens . He has a motto " I want my patients to leave feeling better than when they came " No truer words have been spoken. He has everythi g you want in a doctor , he knows his stuff great personality and sense of humor, he has a plan on how to treat you. and for me he will be with me to the end. also with the meds he has prescribed me ,I can do the things on my bucket list. otherwise without him I would be in the fetal position waiting and praying for death. Dr. Kasendorf is a wonderful Dr. He's kind and very knowledgeable. He listens to the patient, but is also very intuitive. I've never felt rushed so he could get to the next patient. Sometimes that means you may need to wait a little, but only because he gives all the time and attention necessary to each individual person.
