I met with Dr cap for all my obgyn needs for my first child. He has nice bed side manner and educated me a lot on all my questions. I didn't feel like he was ever rushing out appointments which was nice. I also liked that he wasn't too over the top with lots and lots of ultra sounds if it wasn't necessary. Midwife Chris ended up delivering my baby. It was an amazing experience, she really was incredible, and I hope I can have her deliver my next baby as well. Dr. Capetenakis misdiagnosed my Stage IV Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis. I was referred to Dr. Capetenakis by a functional medicine doctor, and was hoping that by establishing care with a "boutique medical practice", I would get the care that I so desperately needed. Long story short, I ended up having an excision surgery for Stage IV Endometriosis, and it was so bad that I also ended up needing a bowel resection. For being told multiple times during my visits that my pain was due to ovulation, my fibroids weren't an issue (he had women with 12cm fibroids get pregnant), and that the developing cysts on my ovaries were nothing to be concerned about, it was a genuine shock that my situation was so dire. My doctor that did the excision surgery shared that I had a life expectancy of 5-6 years if I had not been treated. With regard to the office experience, it is a shock that his office does not send out appointment reminders. According to his staff, they are too small. Given that my dog groomer, acupuncturist, and my therapist all manage their own schedules and send automated appointment reminders without issue, that is definitely an area of improvement. Especially when I was charged a $50 no show fee for an appointment that I never scheduled. All in all - they tried. However, when a patient is far too complex they should be referred out to another provider, not told that everything is fine and to move on. If it were his family, I doubt he would have taken the same approach as he did with me. read more

I had such a positive pregnancy and birth and I know that it had so much to do with Dr.Cap and his team! I was originally a patient at Scripps Encinitas Coastal and being 39 and pregnant every time I went into an appointment they would tell me all about the risks of my "elderly pregnancy" (yes they really called it that) - every test I had came back great for me and baby yet this was the common theme of my appointments. After our Doula recommended that I switch to Dr.Cap I switched at 20 weeks and I am SO GLAD I DID. My experience from there on out was super positive and Dr.Cap never made me feel "old" and really never mentioned my age. Walking into his office I also felt more relaxed and calm, my blood pressure was never elevated (like it was at Scripps Coastal) because I felt calm and I was in good hands. Dr.Cap is excellent at making his patient's feel at ease, he really listens and I love how he kind of steps back and lets women's bodies do what they are made to do. Chris (The Midwife that works with Dr.Cap) delivered our beautiful baby girl and I could not have been more happy. She was such a wonderful person to have at my birth, very encouraging, knowledgeable and really just felt like I had a friend there with me. We have not had the easiest journey, but since working with Doctor Cap I have already seen more natural success than in 3 years with my previous OB. Where any other OB would simply refer you to a fertility clinic, Dr. Cap is willing to brainstorm, make recommendations and support as much in-office as possible. I could not recommend Dr. Cap and his midwife enough. He delivered my first 3 babies and his midwife delivered my last and final baby. His office staff is always very helpful and kind. I actually enjoyed going to his office for appointments which is not always the case for doctor offices. I am absolutely appalled at my experience at this office...reached out to them both via email and a couple phone calls (voicemails left) with completely no response whatsoever, ever. It's been weeks now. I have a very urgent gynecological issue that I've been desperately trying to obtain any sort of assistance for (even just pointed in the right direction for a specific doctor / it's very difficult to find an office anywhere in San Diego that doesn't have an astronomical wait time. After having a phobia of labor basically my whole life, I knew I needed the right doctor. I heard incredible things about Dr Cap from friends so I established care with him. Thanks to him, my amazing doula, and his entire wellness center staff I had an amazing pregnancy and even better labor experience. I was able to have the completely natural, unmedicated birth of my dreams and came out of that experience on such a high that postpartum was a breeze. I'm truly shocked he has such a following. I'm a very easy going patient and I'm not one to ask a bunch of questions or be that paranoid first time mom. I went to Cap based on recommendations, and he was local. Such a horrible experience looking back and I will not be going back for round 2. For every appointment I showed up early and would wait patiently in the waiting area for 10-15 min. Eventually I'd be led into one of the rooms where I would sit and wait an additional 45 minutes, the longest time I waited over an hour. As if I have nothing else to do. He would saunter in, no apology, never address me by my name, simply say "Hey, how's it going, just making a baby right?" Word for word every time. Absolutely NO bed side manor, never felt like he wanted to get to know us...ever......He schedules way too many patients, your just a number. It got to the point where I would call before hand to see if he was running behind so I could plan accordingly, mind you I have a job. That was not useful and they were kind of put off I would ask. Oh and after all that, he didn't even deliver me, Looking back that's why I went to him because everyone said, "oh you gotta go to him, he makes sure to deliver all his babies". I called it, because it got to a point he was so bad, I knew he'd be out of town and literally only a few appointments left to go, he told me he was going to Greece. It was for the best because I really loved the doctor that covered him and even though I only met him once leading up to my delivery he actually cared and spent time with me ! I'd recommend this guy but he moved to KY. I believe in moving on from things, and I have but I just realized I never did write a review and my goal is to save those patients who may follow the hype. Don't buy into it. I wish I listened to my gut that first appointment. There are so many more talented OB's out there!!!! read more

I was a very nervous first time mama. Throughout my pregnancy I was told by everyone I knew that I would never be able to deliver the baby and that I'd need a c section because of my size. Delivered my 3rd baby this week and it was another great experience with Dr. Cap and team! Dr. Cap - Monthly visits are quick, to the point and thorough when necessary. He is patient, fun and talkative with my 5 and 3 year old who always look forward to seeing him and hanging in the waiting rooms. I have never had a baby before 41 weeks and with their help I hit a new record! 40 weeks 6 days. I was also refreshed, encouraged, muscle pains removed, and invigorated for labor. Scripps Encinitas Hospital - Clean, superb nurses, decent food, and always quick to respond to needs that arise. Hospital policies followed to the "t" and Doctors considerations communicated clearly and firmly by nurses but ultimately patients decisions respected. As a patient who has chosen to labor naturally, without interventions of any sort, I have been pleased to have options offered with each labor but at the end of the day feel safe and content to walk out of the hospital to return to laboring at home. It maybe a little annoying or discouraging but the hospital staff is open handed and Dr. Cap has been gracious. He communicates possible risks but makes you feel like you are the parent who has to make the best call for your family. Can't wait for #4. Hahaha...now I just have to convince hubs. read more

My daughter and i had a terrible experience with Dr Nick CAPETANAKIS. I went to him based on his yelp reviews. Please don't believe the hype. I had a fibroid which I knew about but never had a doctor tell me I should have surgery for it by slicing me open like a cesarean scare. My fibroid was not causing me pain. It's very common for women my age to have them. To have that kind of surgery is extreme. I did not like his bedside manner either. My daughters experience was worse. A Man's Perspective: Nick is a Boss. I can't tell you how grateful I am to have been introduced to Nick, Care and Nick's wife Angie. It is like the trifecta-ya-betch-ya. Get in the Cap Wellness conveyor belt, you will be glad you did. Yes, that is right, a conveyer belt. Especially if this is your first, just let go and get on board with the program. Enroll in Care's Hypno-Birthing classes. Find a Doula that plays by Care's rules - Ali Feroah is a friend of the Cap Wellness center and was our Doula, she exceeded our expectation in every way. Lastly, take the in infant CPR class and seal the deal with the Breastfeeding 101 course. I know that sounds like it will blow, but the folks in attendance are cool and Care has employed the most qualified and entertaining instructors around. We also did the hospital tour at Scripps Encinitas prior to the big day. That was a solid decision. I had a good Handel in were to park etc. and I was glad that we had at least some of paper work out of the way prior to showtime. We were faced with some challenges (21hrs of labor), but we were trained in the notion that our bodies grow babies we can bore naturally and babies come out. That knowledge empowered my Wife to "surge" through and we now have a natural born, bad ass, 100% breastfed baby boy on our hands. The abridged version is that I was 38 weeks pregnant and VERY dissatisfied with my care providers, so I contacted Dr. Cap. Angie made room in his schedule so he could meet with me; he reviewed my charts (they were a little complicated so that was not easy); he checked me and the baby out; and he said, "Sure. I'll take you. We'll have a great birth." He and Angie were, at every turn, calm, human, personable, reasonable, and super accommodating. I went from wanting to hide from my previous care providers to wanting to move in to Dr. Cap's office. And when the time came for birth, he was right there, being very supportive, capable, and non-interventionist. It was my third delivery. I am SO happy to have found Dr. Cap. I gave birth 6 months ago and I still rave about him. I dealt with a multi-person practice when I was pregnant with my first son, and while my experience was fine and my pregnancy was uncomplicated, I didn't appreciated how I was treated a few years later when medical issues arose. I decided then that I didn't want to deal with a practice like that. When I became pregnant with my second child, I called Scripps (since I delivered there the first time) and they told me about Dr. Cap. I called, had a meet and greet a few days later, and boom- I was sold. Solo doctor practice who delivers all his patients babies? Yes, it's true. Dr. Cap supports any route you want to take. You want an epidural, that's fine. You want to go all-natural, that's fine. It's your birth. I really liked being able to bring my toddler to appointments to me. There are not enough stars on this review to say how AMAZING Dr. Cap and staff are! From the moment I walked into their office, I felt at home. Angie, Jamie and the front staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. As soon as I meet Dr. Cap and Anna I knew I had made the right choice! They have this way about them that just sets you at easy and confident in your choice and that is extremely important when choosing a provider. I remember being in labor at the hospital surrounded by nurses and my doula, and as soon as Cap walked into the room, I melted because I knew I was in the hands of the best! He was knee high in snow in Big Bear and drove back to deliver my little one. Seriously!?!? I am so blessed to have had this experience. He took the time to explain everything to me and answer all my questions (no matter how silly or dumb I thought they were). Some days I would see him for a regular check up and was quick and other days I had more questions to ask or things to discuss. He never made me feel like my choices were not valid or irrelevant. He stands by his patients and THEIR needs! After giving birth, I wanted to leave the hospital within 24 hours to get home and have the support from my family and be comfortable. The hospital staff was shocked that I was leaving so soon! I asked my nurse why everyone is so shocked that I am leaving, don't most mom's want to get home? She said, most mom's stay longer but Dr. Cap's Mom's usually leave in 24 hours because of how he prepares you and empowers you and this is SO TRUE!!! We were so much excited, bcos this was our first pregnancy. We were extremely dis-satisfied with our experience during labor at the Scripps memorial hospital, we stayed at the hospital for a week. Since I had gestational diabetes, I was induced at week 39 and was injected with lots of hormones and was on IV fluids with no food for 6 days. At the end of 6 days when I was exhausted completely, they asked me to push for 6 hours. With no luck, we were then told that we have to go for a C-section. Isn't this ridiculous ?. Why cant the doctor diagnose this wont be a normal delivery within 2 days? For their own records to show off the highest % of normal deliveries why are they torturing the patients? I wont go to this doctor ever again in my life or wont recommend this doctor to anyone read more

My husband and I love Dr. Cap! I chose him as my OB for the birth of my second son. (The birth of my first son was planned for a birth center in San Diego. Everything we wanted. More than we expected. When we found out we were having a baby (our first) I asked a close friend for some referrals. They have a friend that works at Scripps Enci and Dr. Cap was provided as the top of three given. We really wanted to have "our own" pregnancy/birthing experience, and while we appreciated all the stories from friends, we felt like choosing Cap was the best decision ever, from the first visit to the delivery room, where, as expected, Dr. Cap was the one to deliver our baby boy happy and healthy. We were so prepared (hypnobirthing classes - which we highly recommend, constant education from the Cap staff, and the help of Kylie, our doula - also HIGHLY RECOMMEND) that the birth experience was very enjoyable! (My wife actually wishes she could go back and do it again). I was genuinely excited to use Dr. Cap for my second pregnancy because I had heard so many wonderful things. In the early weeks of my pregnancy, I came to him struggling with severe insomnia. I had weaned off of anticonvulsant medication for the health of my pregnancy. These medications were prescribed to treat a neuropathic trigeminal nerve condition. But, after a couple weeks of failing to fall asleep (while also dealing with chronic pain), I phoned the office and asked if it would be acceptable to take a baby dose of one of the medications I had weaned off of to help me sleep again. He called me back and curtly told me to take Benadryl or Unisom because other medications that aid with sleep were not given in the first trimester. Period. He told me to "try to get some sleep" and hung up the phone with no follow-up. In fact, I never heard from him again. As a nurse, I harbored some skepticism about this blanket approach to dealing with (what would become) debilitating insomnia, but I resolved to try my best to follow his instructions, and use Benadryl or Unisom ONLY to sleep for the following weeks. After all, no expecting mother wants to potentially endanger her growing baby. Suffice to say, I was extremely unsuccessful and a total wreck in the following weeks. Life without sleep is a miserable existence. I could barely function, but I highly suspected that there were alternative ways to dealing with my predicament. I reached out to another OB I had used for well-woman visits, and explained what I'd been experiencing since weaning off of anticonvulsants. First and foremost, she took the time to understand why I was on those medications, and questioned why I weaned off of them for pregnancy. This stunned me because Dr. Cap had not taken the time to understand either of these important facts. She told me that none of the medications I had taken were teratogenic and that she was fine with me continuing them as needed for pain or sleep with the goal of taking a gentle weaning approach over the course of the pregnancy to discontinue medications needed for sleep. A mother's sleep is extremely important to nurturing the health of the pregnancy. It was an enormous relief to receive this level of care and consideration. It gave me the breathing space and the time needed to gently wean off of medication as well as finally get some sleep. Weeks later, I had a routine appointment with a perinatologist for genetic screening. I again expressed my concern about the medication and relayed what Dr. Cap had told me. She said that any advice given to patients regarding NOT taking the medications is "cover your butt" medicine. She referred me to a website called Mother to Baby that details clinical trials regarding the safety of various medication exposures during pregnancy. None of the medication I had taken had any correlation with birth defects or adverse outcomes. Awesome! Dr Cap delivered our baby girl on April 1st at 4:40 AM at Scripps Encinitas. My wife went into labor around 10:30pm. She relaxed in the bath tub until about 3-1-1. We left the house around 3AM. We got there about 10 mins later. We checked in, and not much later, the baby was born - without epidural or pitocin. It was Dr Cap, couple of nurses, our doula, our 20 month old and myself, all there supporting my wife. It was about as close to home birth as you can get without being a home birth. Mostly uneventful except when my wife kicked Dr Cap in the head as the baby was coming out, and knocked his glasses across the room. But he's obviously used to some physical contact in his line of profession because it didn't phase him a bit. It probably would have knocked me out. Anyways, the whole pregnancy was just awesome for both my wife and me. We had planned on only having two babies, but after this, we're considering another one. read more

We were very very happy to have Dr Cap for the birth of our second child. I had a csection with my first, and really wanted to try for a VBAC this time. Dr Cap was so supportive and he went over all the possible options with us. If for some reason, you need to have a c-section with him you can be 100% confident that it was absolutely needed. He said we will have a beautiful birth, and so we did. Dr cap does the most gentle C-section, he uses a clear drape so we could see the birth of our baby, I had immediate bonding and skin to skin contact, he also took extra time to remove my old scar, I felt absolutely no pain at all and my recovery was so quick. My birth experience was as closed as I could have imagine of having a natural delivery. I want to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Cap for being truly committed to his practice and his patients, for listening our thoughts and feelings and for taking such an excellent care of my baby and I. We will definitely fly back to see him for our next pregnancy!!! read more

We are absolutely in love with Dr. Cap and his entire office. We are currently seeing him and have only amazing things to say about each and every aspect of our experience with him. We feel totally comfortable there, the level of personal attention is ridiculously awesome, we never ever have to wait, they know us by name...basically, anything you can think up for your dream OB experience, it's here. Dr. Cap's nurse and his wife who run the front desk are SO sweet and are just as awesome as he is! His nurse is pretty much the most friendly OB office nurse I've ever encountered. Before I was even a patient of Dr. Cap's, I had a very early miscarriage and needed a special shot. This all happened to go down the day before Thanksgiving. I had saved his number in my phone because we had planned on using him. I called at 5pm, right when they were closing, in tears and not knowing what to do because everyone and everything was going to be closed for the holiday. Angie, Dr. Cap's super sweet and awesome wife, answered the phone and was like honey, you have to help this girl out. SO, Dr. Cap came in to the office on his Thanksgiving holiday just specially to help me out WHEN HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ME. I mean hello. Is that dedication and awesomeness or what? Consider me a patient for life is all I have to say. I am part of a local Mom's group, and every time I mention that I'm with Dr. Cap, there is someone in the room who goes, "Oh my god, I LOVE HIM!" or, "I have heard so much about him! You're so lucky!"...and they're right! I am lucky! I could go on and on, but then this review would be the length of the bible. Just do it. He's awesome. You won't regret it. read more
