Put a motor in my Tahoe . Then drove it a few hundred miles for me. I guess their mechanics don't have personal vehicles. Dropped it off with a full tank . Picked it up on fumes . Prob gonna need to replace the replaced motor now that sum one used it as their hot rod .Some one obviously flogged it . Timing is way off . Wouldn't take anything there again. The mechanics will use your ride for joy rides. Clowns ! read more

I have lived in the Boise area for nearly 20 years and Rod was recommended to me by a friend when I first got here. He services all of our cars. The work is top-notch, he keeps you notified, and is very professional. I recommend this shop without hesitation. An example of the service he provides: Rod replaced the AC compressor on my car here in Idaho. I moved to Florida temporarily shortly thereafter and it went out. It was under warranty, so Rod ordered a new one for me and sent it to my mechanic in Florida. That is customer service! read more

I called to see the cost for repair. I KNEW what the problem was and they confirmed over the phone to bring it in and they will get me a free estimate. Never mentioned a cost. When they called with a cost of the repairs I declined services as I was quoted much cheaper by another company. When I went to get my car they told me I had to pay for the diagnosis. I said I was never told that and I already knew what was the issue. I was told I could bring it in for a free estimate for repairs. The guy blew me off and held my keys until I paid. Just make sure you know all costs and that they can change anytime here. read more

After my truck broke down on the interstate, I had it towed to a local mechanic. This other mechanic tried to rope me into spending over $2,000. I took it to Rod's for a second opinion and they took a look at it 2 days before they had to, and found the real issue that was much less expensive. They fixed it for only $3.50 plus the diagnostic fee. It's running great now! I am so glad I took it in to Rod's for a second opinion!!! read more

I did not have a good experience here. The person I spoke to was unfriendly, and he seemed irritated that I had stopped in. (Rod?) told me that he would not give me a free quote, that it would cost between 50-60 dollars to check out my car for an oil leak because he already had enough customers and did not want me to waste his time. As a woman and a lay person with cars, I felt spoken down to, and did not feel that my business was welcome. Suggestion? Come on a day when it isn't busy. If there is a lot of customers, then look out, lest you get snapped at... and don't expect a free quote. read more

October 2015 I took my motorhome to Rods to have the brakes checked because I heard a funny noise. I had an appointment but had to wait over half an hour before finally someone helped me. It was early morning and not much was going on but, I was ignored anyway. Finally, they took my coach and put it on a lift with a pit below. After about 45 minutes, they were done and Rod told me the brakes were fine with little to no ware and said he wasn't going to charge me. That surprise me because, I didn't know there would be a charge. Later, I notice a lug nut that holds the wheel cover was missing. I just purchased another one $11. Now I'm getting ready to leave for the first trip so I took my motorhome to the tire dealer to check the pressure on all tires. In order to check the pressure, they have to take the chrome covers off but they couldn't even get the lug nuts off because someone had put them on with a torque wrench. Rod was the last place I had taken it. I took it back to Rod and explained what had happened thinking they could use the same tool to release the nut. Rod told me he didn't take the covers off because he didn't put it on the lift. I told him Yes I saw the guy working on it there. He said if he put it on the lift, he would have charged me no matter what! Rod not only did not help me but denied any fault. I just wanted it fixed!!! No apology, just insults. I will never go back and if you do...............watch out!!! read more

In fact he could have easily done a lot of work on an old truck of mine but he was honest enough to tell me to that it was time to just sell it as-is and not spend the extra money. I've been going to Rod's for many years. He runs a great shop and is reasonably priced and provides good service. I have never felt like he was trying to do or charge more than what I need. He has been a straight shooter on issues and recommendations. I've called him for advice when looking to buy a new vehicle and he has quickly told me which ones to avoid. I would recommend his shop. They do follow up calls a few days after service to make sure all is well. read more

To often in life when something goes wrong or you feel you or someone in your family isn't treated fairly you lash out.The right thing to do is contact the business in question first to see if anything can be worked out. Well I didn't do that, and it was wrong of me to give a bad review of Rod's Automotive, until I did what I should have done in the first place. And that would have been to contact them, and discuss the problem or go by and see them. Rods has reached out to me, and maybe there's something that can be done. But if not, I still shouldn't have given the review I did. And so I want to say I'm sorry for not handling this the proper way. I have dealt with the public for over 40 yrs. and I know all to well that everything doesn't go as planned. I've been a repeat customer for over 10 years and always found Rod to be honest and fair-workmanship first class. I took my brother-in-laws pickup in because it wouldn't start, thought it was the starter solenoid. I got a call that it would be $214 that the battery was bad. I was surprised at the price for just a battery. It's probably still less than going to a dealer but obviously cheaper to DIY. The vehicle was ready the same day. Rod has changed his internal organization structure and process. I have been accustomed to dropping a vehicle off and getting an estimate to repair. Now you will see a diagnostic charge followed up with the description of repairs needed and the cost to repair. In this case the diagnostic fee was 1/2 hour and $45. The battery was $120 and $45 labor plus some incidental tax and shop charges. I don't know how this diagnostic fee/process compares to other repair shops. I would rate the quality of work higher than 3 stars. The Service writer and follow up process are better than before but pricing may now be a higher by the diagnostic fee or maybe it was included but not itemized before. read more
