As most of us can relate, going to the dentist is NOT a favorite activity. But, there's always…read moreexceptions to the rule. I had lived in the Orcutt area and could not find decent dental care. We knew we were moving to Pismo Beach so I started "interviewing" dentists in the area. I tried Oaks Dental and luckily I got an appointment with Dr. Berry. I can honestly say in my almost 60 years of going to the dentist that he is by far the best I've been to. I had a complicated situation with an old dental implant that needed to be removed. Initially he referred this type of work to an orthodontist-since this is their specialty. After seeing 2 orthos, they were unsuccessful in removing my 30+ year implant. Dr Berry wouldn't accept defeat so he took it upon himself to get creative and he was successful in getting the implant out. The removal of this implant was imperative as I needed a bridge. I just want to add that not only is he at the top of his professional game, but he's acutely aware of my time (which other doctors lack). To top it off, he's always in a great mood, even if his work load is full, and he's fun to chat with. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Berry and his staff of Julie, Office Manager and Missy, front desk. This is a fantastic office and you will be happy to have your dental care looked after by them. Thank you again Dr Berry for all the work and patience you've had with my case!

The road was long and not cheap, but outcome was well worth it. The Dr. and whole staff are very professional and kind. After 5 years I have a new smile that I'm very proud of and healthy mouth. Thanks to everyone!

Also: The X-ray system used was ancient, painful and extremely inefficient. He still has the old system with the cardboard x-ray film, the kind they have to shove into your mouth to get the picture. Very uncomfortable, and it took a long time. I questioned the assistants actual training. Second: When Dr.Pritchett did not directly introduce himself. He mumbled a greeting as he stood out of my sight behind the chair. Third: he started cleaning my teeth with the jet water spray system. This system can be very painful if the Dr. does not know or Care how hard the spray is. I told him, but he said that was the system he used. When I told him to stop he said something like 'I guess I can go back to the old way using tools.' I would not recommend Dr.Pritchett. to any one. After declining to pay the late charge, I reconsidered and I asked if he would settle the late charge for $50.00? He declined stating that $100.00 is the policy. I really object to the charge on the grounds that this fee seems excessive and it was such a poor visit. The leftover taste in my mouth after this appointment was very unpleasant and decisive. It was my mistake to not act on my reaction and a cancel while it was on my mind. Lesson Learned.

I went to Dr. Lee for 3 years after moving to Central Coast, and he never told me I needed work…read moreduring my 6 month cleanings, and then at the last appointment, he told me I needed a crown. The temporary broke off, and when I called the emergency number, I didn't get a call back. Later his assistant told me it was her cell phone, which doesn't explain why they didn't call me back after hours. I let it go, and I got my permanent crown. It broke after 3 months, and once again, no one returned my emergency after hours call (which I personally told them was an issue 3 months earlier, so they knew about it and chose not to fix the problem). I drove to their office and found a HANDWRITTEN note on the door changing the hours (the phonemail was not updated), so I called around and got another dentist to see me. That was when I found out much, more more. I had 6 cavities and needed 4 crowns! 2 of my teeth were badly cracked, and in 3 YEARS Dr. Lee said nothing about it. Not only that, the reason the tooth broke off is he neglected to build it up (which is what the new dentist had to do for me because the teeth are worn) and he didn't seal it properly, so it had decay that had to be removed before they could give me a new crown, so the new dentist couldn't even just put it back on. Apparently Dr. Lee didn't have the equipment/machines/technology necessary to know about these things OR he didn't inform me. Either way, it was gross negligence. The office manager offered to talk to them for me and suggested I request a refund, but I knew better. TWICE the staff told me their "credit card machine was broken" to get me to pay in cash, and when I told them you don't even need a machine; you can accept credit cards online -- they just said it was working! Two different times months apart, so obviously something was wrong there. I did talk to his assistant, and my husband told Dr. lee how upset I was. I asked the assistant to call the office manager at the other dentist, but neither one of them ever followed up. I just decided never to go back, so that's why I'm documenting this so others will know what to expect. If that's not enough, I also have gum disease! I didn't have this when I moved to Central Coast (I went to a great dentist back home), but the hygienist at the new place told me some dentists don't know much about gum disease, so I had to get what they call a "deep cleaning" that cost $1800, AND I now may have to go back every 3 months to get cleanings. They will give me another cleaning this week to decide whether or not I have to. This cost my $8000 in new charges and $1800 for the replacement crown from scratch with the decay clean and the build up of the tooth, so nearly $10k to fix the situation! (It's taken me 2.5 months to get all these work done, which has been highly inconvenient, time consuming, and COSTLY, painful and unnecessary if he had just told me when these issues were small before they became BIG problems). IF YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG DENTIST, THERE ARE HUGE CONSEQUENCES. Don't make the same mistake I did!

I printed out my insurance info stating they covered extractions with no co-pay and they said it would still be another $500. They wanted to take more x-rays and ignored me over and over when I said I only wanted a tooth that hurt pulled and had no money for anything else. I had over $1,000 coverage on my insurance which would have covered one extraction, but they refused to do it without an extra $500. It's humiliating to repeat a half a dozen times I did not have it. They are simply just set up to milk insurance companies and don't care at all for people with limited funds. Michelle treated me like I was stupid would not shut up and ended up hanging up on me. They insisted in taking more xrays saying the insurance would cover those. I told Michelle I couldn't pay for any treatment, so what's the point? They (the doctor) are clearly concerned only with milking the insurance companies. Meanwhile my tooth still hurts.
